Don't tell me what I am. I haven't downvoted anything and am strongly opposed to any kind of censorship. The fact that chargeandgo attributed two contradictory points of view to feminist without having any evidence that anyone believes that (and before you go scrounging for links I'm sure that somebody thinks both of those things, but you can't say it's common.) Also, you can't conflate modern feminism with 50 year old feminism, they are completely different.

I consider myself somewhat of a feminist, and I have said any number of those things. The reason I don't actively spend time distancing myself have crazy militant feminists with blogs is that nobody cares about them. They're just nutjobs that get no consideration in academic feminism. In fact the only time I ever hear about them is in this subreddit. A problem with any movement is that you can't determine who gets to consider themselves a part of it.

Sex =/= gender. These are different things. Sex is biological, and only really relevant in terms of our physical appearance, which can be altered. Gender is constructed both by the individual and the society that reacts to them. A good gender studies class will be analytical and largely non value-laden. Some people do use it to push a political position I'm sure, but that isn't true by definition.

All it is is a framework with witch to analyse and interpret something. You need a framework to work from when trying to understand anything - and this is a good one. But I feel like /u/5_by_5 was using it in a looser sense, simply meaning 'to break something down into small chunks in order to understand it as a whole.'.

I would imagine there are higher rates of Pan-sexuality amongst trans-people. I guess that's not the same thing as bi but it's similar. I only know 4 trans people, so my sample size is low, but they all identify as pan.

It's about the face that people shouldn't be defined by their gender. That a man should be able to choose to be effeminate, and a woman can choose to be masculine, without the negative pressure from society. It's not really even about being masculine/effeminate, it's about being whoever you want without having to prescribe to some particular gender role.

It's not about whatever analogy you want to use, it's about the effect. Lose of the foreskin may result in some lose of sexual pleasure, but it's still entirely possible to have a fulfilling sex life. The lose of the clitoris means that no pleasure is derived from sex. ever. I see this as more severe.
