It's easier to get into American colleges than it is European ones. The caveat of 'free tuition' is that many universities in Germany or Scotland have the same acceptance rate as higher tier universities in the USA. A US university could be a way better school and still be easier to get into than a middle of the line european institution.

When looking at immigrating to Canada, I had to consider using a sort of one drop rule when it came to deciding what I was. I have a mixed raced father (White-Asian) and It's a bit crazy as in America, you don't identify as Asian if you can get away with it, as that's more often than not a negative modifier.
