Did you notice how many of the films she cites are based on true stories? That might have something to do with it...

Actually, the single greatest threat to the men's rights movement is appearing to be boorish, unreasonable thugs.

" The women... Are forced to do what would have been men's jobs" So feminism, then? Isn't getting women out of the home and into the workforce the point?

I particularly liked this section of a comment: What his book–and your post–both assume is that every woman is going to say a clear, flat-out no. It assumes every woman is strong, outspoken, and somewhat fearless. Treating women as equals is now anti-feminist?

See, I understand and share his frustration, but my stance is that the worse the situation you're in, the more important it is to celebrate wins - and the large threads discussing MR issues in that topic are definite wins. But you're right, douche wasn't what I meant - I was thinking dour, and got sidetracked by a shiny object.

Eyes on the long game, dude - small victories breed great victories. Whilst being a douche just makes things worse.

Isn't this the inevitable result of encouraging female participation by lowering standards?

If the law forced said women to keep putting out for said men even after they'd left them, that might be comparable.

Okay, do you have a link to this specific video? I've never even heard of this MGTOW Database thing, throw me a bone here - I'm really trying to see your issue but you aren't making it easy. (And you are kind of throwing a shitfit over something that you've provided little to no evidence of, so whilst yes, that was kind of an ad hominem it's also a valid criticism.) EDIT: Also, as you may have gathered from my choice of idioms I'm British and it's about midnight here - but if you give me some st…

OKay, I'm still waiting on citations for the whole "MGTOW don't like gays" things - and if you can link me to the discussion where this guy is insulting you I'll quite happily go and call him on it - because that is not my Mens Rights movement, and I think it is important we state where we stand and where we disagree with each other. See, I guess if I had to I'd call myself a MGHOW - I've been burned before, and frankly I just can't be arsed (no pun intended) with the whole thing. But part of go…

...You realise the irony in taking statements from a single asshole, expanding his views to an entire group, and then accusing them of being victims, right? I mean, wow - that couldn't have been more hilarious if you'd tried.

It's the fucking CDC, what more do you want? (Also, it's still better than anything you've cited so far.)
/r/MensRights21/04/13 12:30 AM

See, I had the good manners to cite solid academic research, from a government-approved source in support of my argument, but you are refusing to do me the same courtesy - I don't give a shit if you disagree with me, but that's just plain rude.
/r/MensRights21/04/13 12:09 AM

Then you should have no problem citing some, should you?
/r/MensRights20/04/13 10:23 PM

It is a bigger issue because it happens WAY more frequently. I want you to look at this study by the CDC - specifically, table 2.1 on page 18 and 2.2 on page 19. Take a look at the 12-month figures for women forcibly penetrated, and men forced to penetrate, and then say that again with a straight face. Your attitude and statements here are EXACTLY THE PROBLEM.
/r/MensRights20/04/13 01:39 PM

Maybe this is a stupid idea, but couldn't the law just say that in the absence of fault, the party seeking the divorce isn't entitled to alimony? That way no-one is stuck in a pointless marriage, but people have to face the fact that their lifestyle isn't something they're entitled to.
/r/MensRights20/04/13 11:56 AM

You have a source for this? A reason? Anything?
/r/MensRights17/04/13 04:47 PM

I'm going from the figures from the last 12 months, on page 18 for women - with an estimate of 1,270,000 victims, total. Then, on page 19 for men - forced to penetrate in the last 12 months , estimated 1,267,000 victims.
/r/MensRights09/04/13 01:22 PM

That's because they class women raping men as "Other Sexual Violence" - the table on page 19, "Forced to Penetrate". It's just a semantic dodge.
/r/MensRights09/04/13 12:18 PM

Why not give them the stats? I've been posting the CDC link around a lot, since it shows that there's only a 0.26% difference in victimisation rates. http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/nisvs_report2010-a.pdf

So yeah, you posted a link to a video of Margaret Sanger saying that she didn't think infidelity is a sin, and of someone else testifying to infanticide by neglect. Nothing about race on there, unless I missed it?

You realise as MRAs we're supposed to be critical of ideologically biased sources, right? http://www.nyu.edu/projects/sanger/sightings/index.html - Sizeable proportions of the contemporary black community disagreed with your analysis.

People know you hold ridiculous views, and judge you accordingly - plus, you stimulate discussion on the issue which means, if you're open to being proved wrong, you can be.

The smear would be the part where you're pulling racism out of thin air. I mean, if you have citations for the racist origins of PP that's one thing - but you have to provide them, you can't just assert it.

Because the gender quotas global governments are attempting to impose on boards present an illegal barrier to the hiring of men - and this proves that they're based on ideology, rather than merit or evidence.

What state? if you're in a one-party recording state, tape yourself asking him (politely) to please respect your personal space, and how he responds. Always have evidence! If HR don't go for it, take it higher.

Have you tried asking him not to touch you, rather than running straight to HR?

30%, surely? Or is my maths even worse than I think? No, wait, that's a 30% larger as a percentage of total population, not as a.. thingummy. Ignore me, long day and I'm an idiot!
/r/MensRights23/03/13 06:38 PM
3

You're right, I was conflating a pair of statistics together - I was thinking the population was 65% female, but that's only for over 85s! In general, it's a two-percent difference which still means the odds are worse for men, but to a far smaller extent. Thanks for calling me on that, I hate giving bogus facts.
/r/MensRights23/03/13 06:02 PM
1

On the contrary, I'd say this is kind of feminist action that we should be encouraging - rather than just whining for men to cater their products to a female audience, encouraging females to create for themselves. I'm all in favour! EDIT: Sorry, I misread the cause and thought that they were trying to set up a programming camp for girls, rather than just send the kid to one.
/r/MensRights23/03/13 02:32 PM
13

According to the CDC's 2010 study, it happens to women 0.26% more - which, given that the population of women is 15% larger, means that men are actually more likely to be the victims of a sexual assault. Fun fact!
/r/MensRights23/03/13 02:26 PM

Yeah, god forbid I want the law to name my rapist as such!

I'm with Joe Strummer on this, from Clampdown: "Let fury have the hour / Anger can be power / D'you know that you can use it?" (As a side note, MRAs really should try and make some music - nothing goes with politics like punk)
/r/MensRights09/02/13 06:27 AM
12

It's something that's always bugged me - if an erection proves you wanted it, I'm sure the percentage of women that report an orgasm when sexually assaulted will be thrilled to hear that involuntary physiological reactions mean your personal sovereignty wasn't violated after all!
/r/MensRights09/02/13 04:25 AM

I then told him that we should focus more on merit and not gender, to which he responded "but then women would be underrepresented". So he's saying women aren't good enough to get jobs on merit?
/r/MensRights08/02/13 09:56 PM

Do you have some citations for that?
/r/MensRights07/02/13 03:39 AM

That's always struck me as a ridiculous double standard - cunt's treated like the worst word in the world and saying it automatically makes you some kind of knuckle-dragging villain - but men can be referred to by any number of profane slang terms for their genitalia, and it's just par for the course.
/r/MensRights05/02/13 11:10 AM

That still isn't how the burden of proof works - but for the record, the difference is between "All" and "Most".
/r/MensRights03/01/13 10:12 AM

Sincerest apologies, I misread your post - I thought you were arguing for feminism!
/r/MensRights02/01/13 01:27 PM

The idea is more that you should produce facts to support your arguments or shut up - answering direct questions would go down quite well, too.
/r/MensRights02/01/13 01:14 PM
9

Of course not! The idea that actions have consequences is a tool of the patriarchy and by making her face them he was committing an assault on her which she had to respond to.
/r/MensRights02/01/13 01:02 AM

Oh yeah, I totally get that - I was going more for a humourous aside than anything else! Though to be fair, it's just occurred to me that surely that makes it an egalitarian issue, rather than a feminist issue?
/r/MensRights01/01/13 11:08 PM
1

Oh yeah, I get that - but I will add, imagine how male victims of rape feel? EDIT: About the "their fault" thing, that is.
/r/MensRights01/01/13 08:46 PM
16

As a matter of interest, why do you identify as feminist? I mean, what're the core issues that most matter to you?
/r/MensRights01/01/13 08:08 PM
22

Have you considered that maybe you're an egalitarian, instead? Either way, glad to have heard from you - and if you ever feel like switching sides there's always room for another honeybadger!

Only if we get angry! It's not a chance to prove people right, it's a chance to prove them WRONG. The Buddha (Thanks, EvilPundit!) said 'Let truth be your light', and I say you should always try to spread light when you can.

If I may misquote Kennedy, 'We do these things not because they are easy...' The propagation of facts and ideas is incredibly important to our cause, and I choose to believe that no matter how terrible the signal-to-noise ratio is (and it's /really/ bad, I admit) it's still worth making your stand - if a good post leads at least one person to take the red pill, it's worth letting the vultures have their day.

We are, however, supposed to be a collaborative movement holding to a high standard of discourse - maybe he doesn't think he can explain well enough? I tried my best to articulate my stance, and I'll defend it if necessary, but I'm not the most eloquent or knowledgeable. Given how well some members of MensRights can express their arguments, maybe OP felt the cause would be better served by recruiting a better speaker to make the point - in my opinion, education should always be our highest prior…

What's interesting is that the BBC reporting on this story - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-20876223 - didn't bother to mention the victim's age; I was actually planning on posting that link and asking the question because a broken hip seemed to suggest it was an assault on an elderly man but they went out of their way to avoid confirming it! I'm generally a big believer in the BBC, but sometimes...

So, As you may or may not know, the Thomas James Ball article on Wikipedia was deleted for not being "Notable" enough, since (for some reason) it didn't make much of a splash in the news. However, The SPLC explicitly referenced the events in their spring 2012 intelligence report - that's a notable source. Well, I mean, yeah. Look at the date of my post. I'll concede that one - my own fault for having multiple tabs open over a prolonged period - but one comment does not justify writing off every man on the site as a bigot, especially since the recurring trend is people being on there for answering a non-gendered question ("Is there such a thing as too many sexual partners", which applies to both genders. And I'm sorry, how is selecting mates based on his choice of criteria misogynistic?
/r/MensRights31/12/12 06:25 AM

Well, the quotes are obviously misogynistic because they say that most women are bitches and sluts. Three pages in and not once so far - would you care to provide actual evidence, or would you rather just make more stuff up? (In fairness, I have so far spotted a single "cunt" in a context where it's likely being used to provoke, a guy who thinks that over 14 sexual partners qualifies as slutty*, and one mail labeling a subset of women as bitches.) *And it's his right to think so, just as it's yo…
