Money is definitely the main motivator for going quant. May I ask where you had your experience as a quant? How was the atmosphere? I had the impression this field is highly competitive and that there is an atmosphere of non-cooperativeness.

thanks for the clarification. I do have the same inclination. My only gripe is the lack of masculinity in these fields and the atmosphere of PC (look at Google and other companies)

Interesting, why is SMV a part of this? I do bjj and lift. I would consider myself masculine but not handsome in any sense. Thinking about it, I used to fit in better with my army peers than in academia. My intuition is that Finance people aren't exactly my jam of people either...
