I lost my "magical group of best friends" in a breakup at age 19/20, had a baby & got married at 21, and have watched quite a few of my high school classmates go through serious breakups/divorces over the last few years - and almost every single one was caused by "friends" claiming they deserved better. I ended up breaking away from most of my post-breakup close friends when I realized there was some serious jealousy, & they would rather have me miserable and single than happy and with someone, …

The funny thing is, those friends groups would break up in a few years anyway! Jobs, moving, kids, new interests... The only people I know who had the same friends at 18 as they have now (25/26) are the kids with zero ambition of any kind, nor any real desire to move more than 5 miles away from our old high school & have to graduate from the retail lifestyle.

I love this movie & book. I think it shows a ton about the social interactions between men, women, and men & women. It's also interesting to me because, while Sayuri is an amazing geisha, Chiyo would've never had that chance without help. :)

I hope I don't come off as abrasive, I'm not trying to be. :) When I [wrote] the post, I had just read in another post that women should not avoid having sex but the they should avoid not retaining men. Women shouldn't avoid having sex, as long as they're in a relationship with someone whom they have identified as a Captain. Hell, I had my only child out-of-wedlock with my now-husband. It's not contradictory in the least - it's meant to discourage women from holding back from sex for too long (c…

Hey girl hey, my area of expertise! I'm 24, my husband's 40, together 4 years. :) First thing's first, we joke that my husband's "technologically challenged". When we first started dating (in 2011), he had an early 2000s flip phone that broke around our second month of dating. I ended up having to set up his new phone completely, and even now, I still know more about his phone then he does. That leads me up to this: he doesn't like to text - if I'm lucky, he'll text me once every two weeks. In r…

You know how people have a swear jar? I have a negativity jar. Every time I find myself complaining about anything - even in my head - I stop myself, say (in my head or aloud, as appropriate) "That's not acceptable," and then I put a coin into the jar. and Every time I drop a coin in I put a tallymark on a piece of paper (with the date) nearby. Admittedly, it took me some time to get here because I went about it in phases: first, it was whenever I found myself thinking ill of my husband ("I wish…

I am tickled pink that you responded to me! Thank you so much As far as people who find surrendering abusive... I'll have to give that a try, thank you! :) Only you know for sure if you miss your friend and she was 51% good to have in your life. I suppose it's not really the friend that I miss, I just miss the level of friendship that we once had. Hello! I just want to thank you so much for the good you've done in my life! When I was younger, I watched my mom take over everything in her life - and there was roughly a decade of my life where my parents either fought or ignored each other so much, I thought they were going to divorce (not to mention the 4ish years where it got so horrible that I wished they would. Dad had already had one failed marriage, though, and didn't want another; what's more, Mom knew this & would brag about how my d…

The comments are horrific - letting a dog that knowingly eats its own poop lick (the husband's)* sandwich bread? Squirting BBQ sauce all over the inside of a car? Putting food items (egg, salt) in bed in the hopes that he lays down in them (what's the point - she'll have to get up once he realizes it, and it'll need to be cleaned it up anyway, wh…

I barely ever cooked growing up. My dad tried to teach me, but my mom would undermine him by calling him misogynistic, asking him why he never had his son cook for us, why it was always my responsibility, etc. My mom would also make fun of anything I cooked (my taste buds have always been a bit more sensitive than my family's, so that was fun), or if I messed something up, she would start screaming about how I was trying to kill her. Anyway, I was roughly 15 when I finally just refused to cook, …

The full quote is something like, "Don't ask a fish how to catch another fish, ask a fisherman how he'd catch it." Basically, don't ask a woman how to attract another woman. Generally, women give the advice to "just be yourself, be a nice guy, treat her like a princess!" - and we all know how that works. :P

I gave him control of the programme, and boy it was hard! At one point I was like a child: 'But what is your plan! We have to have a plan! We can't just walk around here all day!' Luckily, he's patient and kind, and he just laughed and said ok, and he cooked up a plan for me. You didn't give him control, though. You bothered him about having a plan, he came up with a plan because you wanted it. You were backseat driving the entire thing, and I bet he felt like he was walking on eggshells if some…

So you're in a committed relationship, then. Marriage is not off the table, but I think it should be less of a worry in your mind - he pays for the bills, you live together, you're thinking about having children (and getting married is not a requirement for having babies anymore), you're a visible couple. Forget what other people are saying and forget what he says when other people are around. My husband will talk about almost anything when he's with friends, even if he never wants to do it. He …

Judging by his non-committal answer ("soon"), I would say that you shouldn't bring it up. It sounds like he might be getting frustrated by people asking him, and if you start too, he'll probably see it as you nagging him - not attractive. Let sleeping dogs lie, tell people you're happy with the way things are (don't say, "I don't knowwww...") or that you're not even concerned about it, otherwise people will continue to ask thinking they're doing you a favor and they could be ruining everything. …

First off, you'll want to discover your boyfriend's personal way of showing love, and honestly the easiest way to do that is to ask him. "Look, I know you said you don't like the word 'love', but I do care for you and I'd like to show you. How would you prefer I do so?" For my husband, he wants me to show him that I'm thinking about him. Cuddles. Massages. Booty gropes. I'm almost always touching the booty (as long as it's not awkward). I think it gives him a bit of an ego boost that I can't kee…

Absolutely! These headbands don't tend to full-head cover, mainly because of my husband's wishes but also because he likes my hair. :) This headband is thicker, it's lacy but not super fancy - I wear it all the time! Seriously, I own this exact headband (I bought it from a chain called Meijer, if you've ever heard of it). The best part is, it's kind of reversible - one side is cream, one part is more black. I was absolutely open to it - I've never liked wearing jeans and t-shirts, but in high school wearing skirts and modest clothing was considered weird, and even after I graduated high school, I was still dating my high school sweetheart and hanging out with our high school friends. I had left high school, but I hadn't left high school, you know? Anyway, I really felt like my husband's "dress code" signified me growing up - pulling away from that high school, "whateverrrrr" attitude. :)

My husband actually did give me a dress code: Nothing low-cut, tight, or short. Skirts are to be at least below my knee, or else they get tossed. Pants are only okay if I'm doing yard work. No tank tops or camisoles unless I'm layering. Shirt sleeves should be elbow length or a unisex tee sleeve length. Shoulders are not to be visible, ever. No garish colors. Shoes are pretty open to me (his mother and I both love shoes), as long as they're appropriate for the outfit. I asked him if I could star…

Ohhhhh, I'm going to be the one person who comes in with words of warning: just because things are small doesn't mean they won't get messed up. I had a small wedding with ~15 people in attendance, and we still had a drunkard, a fight between cousins, my very pregnant MOH ended up hit in the stomach trying to get away from the cousin fight, and my dad's other kid attempted to goad my dad into hitting him so he could call the cops. Look, my mom was a stepparent herself to my dad's kid (Dad was also technically my stepdad, but the other half of my DNA never wanted anything to do with me so my dad has been my dad from day 1). My mom tried her damndest to make my dad's child respect her, to treat her like a second mom deserving of motherly respect, and all it's done has made her stepkid barely tolerate her, nearly ruined their marriage, and almost cost my dad his visitation rights when his ex-wife found out (and she actually …

You have your answer, your husband gave it to you: blindly trust him, have faith he can handle it. Being an RPW isn't just about sex, it's about submitting. It's about letting him lead, and picking your battles. If it's not up for discussion (which it doesn't seem like it is, according to his words, since he has when he has specifically asked you to trust him), then you let it go. Trying to manipulate him (and yes, that it what your ultimatum was, it's a manipulation) is not the mentality of an …

I'd honestly never heard of redditgifts until you mentioned it. I think that's supposed to be considered "more controlled" because reddit is asking you for your info, as opposed to a random user asking, and you're giving it to reddit, who then goes off and gives it to a random user...which makes no sense to me. I don't know, it's not something I would do anyway - I can count on one hand the number of people I trust. :P

Honestly, this seems like something that might fall under the "no personal information" part of reddit's rules; even though you're willing to give your own out, you're requesting it from others as well. Edit because I forgot to delete a rephrase.

For anyone still in this sort of scenario, I've dealt with it a lot since swallowing the rp. :D "But you said last week that..." "I talked to him about it, and things are doing well." Take a sip of your drink/bite of food. "You know, I think I'm in the mood for some water/need to use the bathroom, would you please excuse me?" Leave something moderately valuable, too, so that you can't be followed (or if she says she needs to go too, say, "Oh, you go first and I'll stay here and watch the table s…

My personal standard: if it's not something I would say to him with a straight face and factual tone, it doesn't need to come out of my mouth, period. Using my husband as an example, I'd never discuss his penis size when I'm teasing (it's late and I can't think of anything else right now), but I often call him an "asshole". Why? Because he calls himself that, it's almost a term of endearment, and he gets the biggest shit-eating grin when I do (like he's saying, "What are you gonna do about it? N…

Actually, I don't have anyone I'd consider a friend anymore, but I don't mind. This area isn't good for an RPW mindset (especially since I had a baby and married at 21 [24 now]; most of the moms my age around here are single, looking for their next AF and/or BB, & spend a lot of time at the bar), and staying out of the culture gives me more time to stay at home and make my husband happy. :) It used to bother me, but I realize now that they & I aren't birds of a feather.

"Why?", as in the following: Former Friend: "Hey, do you want to go out to eat/come over/join us on girl's night?" Me: "I'll need to ask my husband." FF: "Why?" I live in a very grrrl-power!, feminist-friendly area, so my reply would often be met with confusion, bitchiness, and disgust. I don't get asked to hang out very often anymore, and that's fine by me. Those friendships were doing more harm than good. :)

Horse to water and all. She's getting upset at you because you actually care about how people view you, and value yourself. Ultimately, her attitude and outlook on life will reflect on you - people will see her and her public persona and wonder how you two can be friends, wonder if you're secretly "like her", …

Oh goodness, yes! I'd love to send my son to an all-boys school, but that wouldn't fly around here - too many single mom, feminist-minded women around here. I actually saw this on http://billingsgazette.com/, but they have an ad with which you need to interact in order to read the full article. I graduated in 2008, and my school has had a dress code for years - at least since my grandfather graduated from it in 1958. Dress codes are nothing new, and we all know now how mainstream teenaged "sexiness" has become - I can't be out in public without seeing shorts that have pockets longer than the actual shorts, or girls wearing see-through, low cut shirt…

All of the degrees in the world won't help you keep the right man, and a man won't wait around as you put him on the back burner to focus on your studies. I'd leave school, get a job to pay off your loans so far, and find a man at least 10+ years older. I've noticed that older guys aren't necessarily attracted to book smarts, but actual intelligence, and they're more likely to want a relationship because they've already passed the a-hole partyboy stage. That was me: I tore apart each one of my relationships because I was trying to be too masculine in my demeanor. I don't get the chance to hang out with women very often, and even if I did, I don't have very many friends in LTRs/marriages who I'd want to spend my time with, since they tend to bad-mouth their SOs without a second thought. It's a bit difficult, because I just want to be around someone, anyone, but that's not a way to keep my marriage happy. :P I think the going out for lunch and wine, or staying home for wine, is a great idea. :)

Best way in the sense of "less drama" for removing people from my life? I've had the best success* with the simple "kind-of ignore" strategy: stop answering texts as often, don't call them as much, don't go out. I'd say remove at least one interaction a day, until it's suddenly been a month, and you haven't spoken once. My husband's birthday is on Monday (which he has off), so I'm trying to figure out some sort of celebration that we can do without having to spend money (since I'm out of a job at the moment). I'm thinking cake, ice cream with his best friend and our families, sexytimes after. I'm also hoping to get more of the front patio done, too. :) For anyone with a Meijer near them, they have a BOGO for $1 sale on athletic shoes, when you clip the Mperks coupon. :)

Um, mine is more of an outside DIY. I'm trying to pretty up our front yard, mainly by adding a patio and some plants from my mother-in-law's garden. :)

I've had a similar issue, compounded by the fact that my husband is older than I am (he'll be 39 on Monday, & I'm 23). I've had people ask me if I'm aware that I'm being followed by a man, and if I need help finding my mom. This has happened while I'm holding our toddler, too. Honestly, I started dressing more in heels/dresses/skirts & blouses. I've noticed that the age thing happens more when I'm in the graphic tees and jeans, so I'm trying to stay away from them. Girls our age don't tend to we…

I don't. I'm still new, & I don't think I'm "ready" for a flair yet. I have a lot to work on in regards to my attitude. Thank you, though!

Mine was (oddly) my mom pushing me to dress that way because that's how "girls nowadays dress". I understand why she did it (discussed this elsewhere, but she's living the feminist/BP dream, and she wanted that for me, too), but I didn't want it.

It wasn't that long ago when I was her age, but all of the celebrities were dressing in skanky outfits (Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera during her Xtina phase), and my mom was encouraging the short-shorts/skimpy top phase. I'm just glad that now, teenagers have someone their own age saying this, too. :)

I'd love to, but unfortunately, my area has strict rules on where gardens can/cannot be (fenced-in back yard only), and we don't have any area that we can use due to tree cover. We also can't have livestock - no goats, chickens, outside rabbits, nothing. :( I'd love to move to a less-restricted home, but that's not my choice to make. :)

I'm interested in seeing the daughter's mom's viewpoint (especially if they're divorced; I'm not entirely sure about the dynamic here). Growing up, my dad was very similar to this, but unfortunately, my mom would overrule him, telling him that "this is how girl's dress". My dad, already having one failed marriage (to an evil, evil harpy) under his belt, would back down. She'd then send me off in the low-cut tank tops and booty shorts to go have fun, always telling me not to be "too serious". I u…

I don't think I deserve one, but I'd like to see this up again in a couple of months. :)

I'm going to make suggestions towards you, not towards her, since you can't change another person's mind. Reevaluate your friendship with this girl. You say she's a "nice girl" but she has problems with being too sexual when drunk - that's not a nice girl habit. The saying, "birds of a feather flock together" is enduring because it's true - you hang out with a drunk slut, people think you're a drunk slut. I'm well-known for being a bitch, so I'd outright tell her why (especially since she shows …

But he's a bad boy, which means we can ~change him~... And obviously the first step in changing him is making him into a meme, right?

Aaand immediately after viewing this post, this showed up on my Facebook feed. Thank you, internet. Also, not going to lie, I love guys with blue eyes, but blue eyes always end with trouble for me (almost all of my exes have blue eyes, and most of them went crazy-stalker "take me baaaack!" after we broke up), so I'd probably run the other way based on that. haha.

I used to dress like crap, purely because I was of the opinion that I wasn't going to change "my style" for a man; that bitchy little attitude, like so many others, changed once I met my husband. He absolutely loves when I wear lower-cut or tighter shirts, but doesn't give a crap what I wear on the rest if my body (boobs man). So, I compromise: I tend to wear his choice in shirt, then my choice in pants/shoes/accessories. I'm often complimented on my style, even (oddly) by two of my ex-boyfriend…

Congratulations! It's terrifying and exciting, and you probably won't feel very "glowy", but it's 9 months and then... Oh goodness, you're in for a rollercoaster. :) :)

My husband and I have also never had a serious argument (though he insists that he's going to get me to like ham, while I vehemently disagree). I have no issue "backing down", even when I'm right. You're exactly right, though; I trust him to make the best decisions for us, as a family, because he can see the whole picture better than I can. It's also made things better in regards to having my voice hear, because if I do disagree with him enough to tell him "no" (something with which I am highly …

I personally don't buy him pants - he has a weird lower-body, so he has to try everything on before he buys. I'll buy him shirts that I think he'll like, or make me think of him, or if he tells me he needs socks I'll pick them up, but it's not part of my wifely duties, just a nice gesture. :)

Personally, I absolutely do not. In my opinion, he is entitled to look however scruffy he wants, because he's the breadwinner/man of the house. It's my responsibility to look attractive for him, not his to look attractive for me, since he can always find a hotter woman; as he ages, his SMV/MMV goes up, but mine will always go down. Just me, your opinion may be different. :)

wave Hi! I've been a member for a little while (I'd say a few months), and I've posted a bit, but I still feel like a bit of a lurker. I'm 23, and a mom & wife. I'm former college student & a beta boy's sugar-momma-to-be, before I got fed up with what I was told was the Perfect Life. Left that guy, met a great man who apparently saw a good woman underneath the bitchy little girl that I had cultivated, and refused to take my shit. I was hooked on his attitude, even though everything said I should…

Oh yeah. One has a tantrum while the other escapes/grabs something he shouldn't. It'd be amusing, if they weren't mine. :)

If I'm going to work, I have to wear that uniform (polo, khaki pants - skirts are allowed but highly frowned upon as they aren't "OSHA-safe", black tennis shoes). I generally wear my hair in a presentable ponytail, and no makeup. If I'm out working in the yard, I wear jeans and a t-shirt. I'm not too worried about being pretty when I'm raking leaves, moving branches & corralling the kids (both furred and not. Seriously, my dog and my toddler are partners in crime). I just throw my hair into a po…

Prepare for a novel. You sound like me a few years back. I was 20, just out of a 4-year-relationship, and had lost a lot of weight. I went completely alpha-female, fuck relationships, I was hot, I was done playing "mommy" to the guys around me, I wanted to have fun without the responsibility. Guys were weak and completely useless except for their wallets, and if I didn't want that, I'd have sworn them off for good. I was completely BP. I ended up meeting an older man at my work who accepted that…

AHHHHHH! I want them! I mean, they're weird, they're cute, and I have nothing that matches them so I'd obviously have to wear them with everything I own.

Last Week's Goals: Finish Spring Cleaning (I've realized this is an ongoing task. Unfortunately, having a toddler in the "Whatever you do, I have to undo it" stage isn't great for Keeping Things Done.) Move the Baby's Crib in His Room (DONE! So excited to finally have "our room" back after 2+ years! I also put up his Cars light string, so he has a night light.) Plant Seedlings (This one I've made progress towards. I culled the seedlings I had left after the white-powder stuff set in, and I've ti…

I'm not entirely sure what's "made it" besides my onions, some asparagus, and I think my cilantro; I forgot to make signs (I was making sure my toddler didn't spill all of my potting soil). I'm looking at it as a "surprise!" garden, and next year, I'll make the signs pre-planting. It's a learning experience. :)

My husband loves to cook - it's his release from work, I think, along with his cars - so I absolutely see no problem with a man who loves to cook. I have more memories of my dad really cooking than my mom(bless her, but her parents...can't cook, so they didn't teach her. She tried, but she's more of a box-cooker, while my dad takes the time to make the meal), so I've actually always associated cooking with masculinity. I'm also what's considered a millennial, I believe (I'm 23), while my husband…
