There are some norms that could reasonably be considered patriarchal, in that they put men in positions of power over women, but there are just as many that could be considered matriarchal for the same reason. Men seek and are expected to seek such roles to prove themselves. They create feedback loops by becoming boy's clubs and unwelcoming to females.
