Great post. I'm 5'4", lift, and do BJJ as well. Most importantly, like you, I don't carry myself like I give a shit about my height. Insecurity is the most unattractive thing you can wear out of the house but it's the first thing a lot of short guys put on in the morning

If you're completely new to lifting I'd suggest a routine like Starting Strength or Strong Lifts 5x5. They'll help you build a good foundation for lifting and the strength gained will be an asset (although not necessary) for BJJ. As far as a BJJ school, go try a few out in your area. Most places let you sit in on a class for free.

This is what I use. With a good shaving cream it works wonders.

What was the book called?

I've found meditation to be extremely helpful. It's like exercise for your mind. When we over-think where is our awareness at? In our heads. Meditating trains you to control where you focus your awareness.

The book gives you exercises to help you change. Read it, do the exercises and read it again my friend!

^ This. /r/Meditation is a great resource. Anyone who's interested in it should check it out as well as this video. Edit: A video on how meditation relates to seduction.

Yeah I'm gonna just move on. This isn't the first time she's wanted me to chase. She tried to play the whole "I don't want you to have my number" (but said with a big smile) game. I'm seeing a pattern. Thanks for the input.

Yeah my mindset was "just in case." Life long beta but just found TRP and working on adopting the principles. Thanks for the input.

Approach and talk to THEM. Be social and engage both of them and from there you can work on the girl you're interested.

Everyone's suggestions are spot on. If I may add one that hasn't been mentioned. Mediation. In my opinion the root cause (aside from scarcity, loneliness, etc) stems from you being in your head. Meditation is like a workout for your awareness. When you awareness is focused in your head you start to create all these grand illusions about who you WANT her to be and hogw you WANT things to pan out. That's your ego. As someone mentioned already, this leads to expectations and ultimately disappointme…

Good shit man! You got it right on the money with the whole "just be social" mindset. At the beginning too many guys (myself included) forget that ultimately this whole thing boils down to having good social skills. You went there with no expectations and solely with the purpose of engaging other people and having a good time. From that came a cute girl who digs you for being you. Keep up the good work!

It was like you were speaking directly to me as well as OP. Seriously, this was one of the best things I've read on the subject of personal evolution! Thank you!

You know how he and other guys got good at reading those subtle cues? Experience. Going for it and failing, learning, then going for it and succeeding. Seriously, everything you said in this thread reminds me so much of my nice guy self from the not so distant past. If you want to get better with women then you're going to have to TRY and LEARN from those experiences. If you don't then why are you here rationalizing away the awesome advice Nick has given us from his post and subsequent responses…

This. Acceptance is the first step. To UpvoterOmega, I'm also going to suggest therapy. I'm seeing one now and it's done a lot for improving my perception of myself. Know that you're not alone in how you feel. Lots of people feel like that and it can be overcome.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
