He freaks out and plans on divorcing her quietly so she isn't executed for adultery. Only the intervention of an angel in a dream convinced him to stay and raise Jesus. After that, he raised Jesus as his own. Mary didn't go waltzing about taking about how her son was born of God, and for good reason. People didn't just automatically believe it. I went a Jesuit high school (and college, present tense) myself, so I had to deal with some of that stuff, but not to that degree. They try to make you say "first years" instead of "freshman", but it's not gaining too much traction. Granted, they still make you go to all the orientation things, and have all the gay clubs, and the black clubs, and the women clubs, and all that jazz.
