If you care enough, show him. Don't coddle his emotions, kick his ass or something. This is your father, and you as his son must look out for him by any means necessary. Some men only respond to force, and maybe that's what will save your father. Don't give up on him.
Strange. My mom is Polish, and I've always thought I had a pseudo Oedipus Complex for feeling like I can't find any women who are as kind and genuine as she is in the US. Maybe I really should take a trip to Eastern Europe after all.
