Sorry for the late reply, i think you've misread my comment. I never made the argument that the man was competent to lead because he couldn't fight as well as his wife. I'm making the point that its tokenism basically to lead in an area where you far less competent/incompetent. but again your mentioning about having to be the best in every role isn't what I'm talking about. I'm saying someone shouldn't be a leader if there not the best at ANY role, at minimum be the best at something and even th…

I don't think he egalitarian at all I think that he's matriarchal but tries to pass it for patriarchal and that's what frustrates me. Its almost like this kind of like this lets talk about servant leadership but only focus on serving, making men leaders with accountability but no authority, or happy wife happy life

1) noone said anything about being the best at everything so you're creating a strawman argument 2) My argument is that i makes no sense and is dangerous to have someone who is incompetent in everything be a leader... They should form a skillset, competency, or character that serves as an example to follow. why should someone follow someone who doesn't know where they're going when they the follower knows where they're going

A combination of them all, but what I find confusing is that he's trying to play up a kind of chivalry while saying we do it just because they're women and we're men while trying to downplay the inherent differences between men and women(when chivalry in some ways not all makes since if there are inherent biological differences between men and women . if there's no difference in competency why does the bible mention about women being the weaker vessel or why should we make sure to take of the we…

I think we agree on this completely, i don't see it as 100% about competency but is definitely tied to it. and I love your fitness example.. This is why I take no issue with the idea of hypergamy. could a marriage work if your wife is better at everything? I guess, but the I know that any women would want their husband to be at least be as good in all areas or at least superior is SOME area of leadership which ties into well with the idea of fit/active women wanting men who are on their level or…

So I think you missed the point specifically with Derek Prince that I don't see leadership as being just about authority, but also competency. For example It seems like a waste to have Steve Kerr of the Chicago bulls to be the team captain when Jordan is on the team. If a man is supposed to be a leader let him build his leadership capability before he considers marriage. and yes generally man and would win vs a women in a fight generally, but he brought up this example to drive the point home so…

Id agree exactly with what you said, to a degree. my issue with what Piper said is that he's claiming leadership isnt about competency "at all" and I think that he's saying that to allow for a kind of world where men can be blokes but still be called leaders. I also find that in scripture... the elders as described in the NT are the considered "the best" at something like being the most faithful or having the best reputation so to say that its not at all about that seems fake to me

And to that point maybe im using the term ability/competency wrong, what i'm getting at is that a leader has to be some kind of version of "er" "est" to be an actual leader. what I mean by "er" or "est" is for example smart-"er", brave-"er", wise-"est" or the most willing. you cant be less in all of those areas and still actually be the leader in my view

Gotcha I wonder if that assumes that they know better and choose not to tho, or was there a point in time where the culture flipped it. If it’s the latter how do we stop or turn men first from it?

Can you elaborate further? Do you mean authority in all context? Church leadership? I want to make sure I understand you correctly and not misinterpret what you intend. I originally posted this from a relationship POV and what’s given as relationship advice from men

So would you say it’s out of a desire for preachers to be popular that drives them to teach that to men?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
