When she first mentioned divorce, i suggested couples therapy, after 3 sessions she said divorce was the only option, and I said okay. Been divorced for a year and a half, she is still dragging me into court almost 3 years after filing. Thank god we didnt have kids.

If a lawyer has a moral compass that doesn't follow the evidence, they should be disbarred. Expensive... representing myself Pro-se in the divorce, but having to bail out in jail and having to hire criminal defense attorneys is not cheap. Thank God no kids, just a house. The bar association is currently investigating the disqualified attorney as well. My ex's lawyer (not the ex) got a harassment restraining order that required all correspondence to go through the court system. They then chose to routinely call police and try to have me arrested for filing all correspondence through the court system. Eventually they got a prosecutor corrupt enough to support their claim and I was arrested for filing documents in my own divorce as a pro-se litigant, not for contempt of court or anything like that for allegedly violating the attorneys harassment…

I kept the house and paid her the equity, no kids. Absolutely, my "Amicable No Attorney's" Divorce turned into a multiyear shitstorm with PLENTY of attorneys, tens of thousands in useless litigation, and restraining orders flying EVERY which way. They want a divorce, they don't care to work things out with you, and they will absolutely be listening to their overpaid lawyer on just how much hurt to put you in, if they have a lawyer, you need one.

If she can afford a lawyer, you can afford a lawyer... And by that I mean, unless she is using pre-martial assets to fund her attorney, the funds she is using are martial funds (which means they are also yours). Look into a motion for "needs-based" attorney's fees, if your state has such a provision.
