Everyone is different. My advice does not have to work for you. But I have to ask why you posted in a first place to ask for advice if your mind seemed already to be made up? Want us to cheer you on?

Company and friends is something very different compared to flirting and dating. You're not ready. Live a year, 18-months alone, make friends, get a hobby, start a business, write a book, lose weight, whatever - then try again. Me and many others have been there and your mind is tricking you - you're not doing yourself or a partner a favor.

Yeah, no alcohol is important. Don't listen to any soft or slow music. Your favorite love songs are a big no no, too. It starts to get real at around week 4-6 of the actual separation. Before that it is more like a vacation or being away. Do NOT go onto any dating apps, no matter how tempting it may be. Rub one out if you feel like you need some action. I am a long distance runner and that has helped, but has also been the most difficult thing for me to do. She moved 5000 miles away and I have 1…

I use Zelle to send her the money. Goes between checking accounts. We're both with Chase, but it works from other banks, too. You can set up recurring payments and even put in the number of payments you have to make. It's easier if you can manage the situation and not have to have salary deductions.

Beautiful story (and development). Best of luck to you.

I brought it up out of the blue. She was shocked at first but admitted that she had similar thoughts - just was not as far down the road as I was. We went through mediation and it is all done. Just waiting for the judge to sign and meet the California 6 month + 1 day requirement.

Yesterday. Europe. She will go into quarantine upon arrival. She has dual-citizenship - so, no concerns about coming back, but that is up to her anyway. She wants to visit him or him potentially travel over there, but that level of detail is not worked out yet. My son and I are aligned (or so I hope) and we will make the best dream team possible. Last night was a bit rough for me as reality sank in, but as mentioned in my original post - I did not have many low points in the entire process. I ha…

Stay away from alcohol and sad songs and you will be fine. Keep your mind clear, pick a hobby or start running. You will get through this. Only one person in my circles has really asked how I am doing with the divorce and that was my boss. He is a friend but you never know if it was just checking to see if I can do my job. No one else seemed to care. I am so emotionally ready to move on. 4 more months before it is final. She will hopefully move out by mid April and go back to her parents in anot…

I am stuck with my STBXW as well. She is also going to move back "home" and has a flight booked for April. All in limbo now with this covid virus. It is stressful even though we are fairly friendly with each other. I am waiting for her to be gone so that I can start over. Paperwork is done and notarized. Just need the judge to sign and the 6 month to complete. But she will be gone sooner.

I have been in a very similar situation and asked for a divorce in December. The last time we had sex was maybe in 2008. We have one child and sex was happening just to reproduce (1 child). I asked many times and then let it go - just to be asked after I asked for the divorce why I did not try harder. I felt unloved and it really killed my emotional connection to her - pretty much moving into emotional self-protection over the years. I am in my early 50s and will start over. It will hurt financi…

Hi there. Just downloaded it. Thank you. I will go through and populate it later tonight and then give you feedback as well. First look - looks great. Cheers, Chris

I did not know what to expect. I feel like a victim, but I do not want to develop the victim mentality. Reminding myself more to look forward. Two key pieces for me are to a) stay away from alcohol and b) do not listen to any sad songs or love songs for that matter. I am so ready to have closure and move on.

Not there just yet, but I think I am not too far off anymore. When I have the financials covered in mediation I will feel relieved. I will know how much money I can work with and how that will allow me to shape my new life. If all goes well, I will pay-out my STBX in ~3 years and have closure.

Wow, a year waiting period before you can divorce? That is insane. I have 6 months + 1 day here in California. She will be served the papers next Wednesday and then my countdown starts. Thank you for the spreadsheet. I just clicked on it and requested permission. Good luck to you.

I am not walking around telling my situation. I told my boss, HR/payroll at work, and 2 friends. When people ask me about how the family is, I say "fine". I still have 6 long months ahead of me and I am sure there will be plenty of "opportunity" to spill the beans. When I am ready for dating, I might be more active in letting the right women know that I am single again ;-)

There is some sort of a plan, but it does not make sense to me. She is very much under the spell of her mom (79) and she seems to be following her mom's logic and thinking. I do not mean this in a bad way, but her mom is extremely under-educated and that is reflected in certain ways. It's sad if you look at it from that angle. It makes it difficult a bit to assume logic and understanding.

Carefully proposed a full pay-out in a conversation with the STBX today. It's simple math, but she does not seem to get it. She prefers a monthly check and does not seem to understand the concept of paying herself and potentially earning significantly more while investing portions of the lump sum payout. More work to do to explain this to her. Difficult to navigate this. Frustrating.

I am Ok with not getting anything back. I want closure and concentrate on a new life - whatever that will look like in the end.

Does not include child support. Child support is about $800 on top of spousal support. She makes about $47K. She stayed home one year, then worked part-time for several years. Then moved up part-time to 30 hours a week and then finally to 40 hours.

Thank you. I am in tech as well and that is definitely a concern for me. I also pointed this out to her already, but she does not necessarily see it that way. I need to do a better job explaining the numbers and how compounding works if she takes the early payout.

I think that is the direction I will follow as well. Thank you for your input.

In my case the mediator used DissoMaster. I am surprised how low child support is compared to the spousal support based on the calculations.
