After 3 years it’s gotten better, but yeah everything as described in your post and this. Everything was normal, but working out and just taking time to myself, eating healthier made me feel better. I used Mojo for a while and they have a good program that I eventually cancelled.

I feel ya man. Not the same, but my Ex has a TikTok page where she journals, etc. Typically I don’t see anything, but randomly she’ll be recommended for me. Last time it was a story about a misunderstanding her therapist had about me. Basically it made me sound like a deadbeat dad. Every now and then it’s her pity party or showing off her new life.

Wait til she realizes the check she’ll get if she doesn’t work.

Agreed. If they’re ever delinquent then you risk getting screwed from that. If they want it so bad they can buy you out of your half of the paid value. It won’t get you off the mortgage, unless your lender lets you do an assumption.

My (36 M) son (6 M) has always had trouble transitioning between households. He struggles with having to “choose” between houses, but more specifically he throws bigger fits about leaving mine. I bought out the marriage home in the neighborhood with all his friends, and I try to give him 1:1 attention and foster his interests. I can’t say his mom (35 F) doesn’t, I know she tries, but I think it’s on a lesser level. Plus she has a kid and remarried and they move a lot. Whenever he says these thin…

Agreed. Last I checked in the US in most states it doesn’t matter. Most lawyers would say start “spending” that money [into cash]. Unless it’s still in some sort of trust? The good news is without kids and an income maybe she won’t have a right to claim that much? Not a lawyer, just a dude who’s been there and is now in divorce debt.

Agree with that guy. Plus then you only do it if you guys are super into the movie or you just want to fool around in public.

Well steel yourself to support and encourage them to find a good therapist. It was quite a journey.

Turns out was a colloquial reference to my marriage, not my wife’s homosexuality, though I still think it applies based on my lack of insight to her childhood. She had repressed events pointing her down this path that were suppressed by her parents and, as a result of her raise, by herself. They surfaced and we tackled them together.

“Turns out: to happen in a particular way or to have a particular result, especially an unexpected one: As events turned out, we were right to have decided to leave early.” Thanks for the explanation, hopefully this factoid also benefits you

Mine, for example, turned out to be gay. She also needed a new therapist and psychiatrist that really turned her life around, but the not liking dick was the big one.

Yuuuuuup. Now my ex’s spouse is constantly complaining to me about how all they do is clean when they’re not working 🫣 sounds familiar… don’t miss plow season when I’d eat, sleep, plow, and clean-up after my x.

I usually ask my kid what he wants to get. He’s 5, he picks a card and usually flowers. This year it’s flowers and $5s in Aldi bath bombs with a Graduation card. I always tell her it’s what he picked. For a while I took him to her online wish list, but after a year of, “ he wanted to get you this…” I don’t think twice !

My ex and I are similar. She’s the mother of my kid, so she gets a gift from the kid and something from me. Christmas was earbuds and some makeup stuff she wanted $50 limit
/r/Divorce_Men01/03/23 06:59 PM

Thanks, she waived alimony and child support as long as I cover the kid until he’s in public school- August 2023. Obviously she can take me back to court at anytime. We had a payment plan for the buyout, but she’s decided she wants the lump sum. Depending on how a refi shakes out, I will have ~$500/ month available to add to that mortgage payment.

Thanks!!!!

Good to know! I was running on the assumption that the assumption would cost almost as much as a refi, so I have a good amount set aside
/r/Divorce_Men28/02/23 05:02 PM

I spoke with them yesterday, if the loan assumption goes through, I cannot have a HELOC open until after complete.
/r/Divorce_Men28/02/23 04:29 PM

Nope! Rent in my area starts at $1800. Mortgage is $1150/ mo

I’m taking possession, so I don’t care and I’m certain she won’t notice unless someone tells her

1

Do you mind if I ask final cost?
/r/Divorce_Men28/02/23 03:19 PM

The quitclaim and decree are required to initiate the assumption. I did read that while you’re indemnified from issues with the loan, it may still show up on your credit report until refi-ed or sold

I need to get her of the mortgage regardless, I think if I have to refinance, it would be be a better rate to lump it together rather than have the varying rate and a separate loan

Thanks, I did contact the lender. The customer service rep sent me a qualification FAQ and a form to complete… we shall see

Loan Assumption seems to be the way to go. A heloc 10% variable on a portion of the loan for the next two years and 3.83 on the house is cheaper than 6%+ on the remainder of the house as well as the additional loan for the remainder of my time. Once I pay her off, I can pay $500/mo to this loan and in August when my kid goes to kindergarten, I’ll have an additional $1300/ mo. That $1800 / mo should make quick work of the HELOC
/r/Divorce_Men27/02/23 09:47 PM
2

Nope! We did agree initially on a payment plan, but she’s run herself into debt and wants the $$$ now. I’ve paid off about 1/3 of the cost according to my documentation.
/r/Divorce_Men27/02/23 09:41 PM

Thanks! I just learned about loan assumption, so I’m moving that way. It sounds like I’m eligible!

Thanks! Yeah, the problem I run into is she’s reasonable until she’s not and then she’s a real… lol However, I did find a Loan Assumption and it looks like for the low, low price of closing costs, I can just assume the responsibility from her and bump her off the mortgage with the decree and a quitclaim deed.
/r/Divorce_Men27/02/23 08:36 PM

116k/163k. Est value is currently 250k, which is unfortunately what was used to determine her buyout of 62k. So a refi with payout would put me back at the beginning. However, I did find a Loan Assumption and it looks like for the low, low price of closing costs, I can just assume the responsibility from her and bump her off the mortgage with the decree and a quitclaim deed.
/r/Divorce_Men27/02/23 08:27 PM

Right now she just wants the money, which she’s REALLY good at spending blindly. I just don’t want her problems to come back to me. I did find a Loan Assumption and it looks like for the low, low price of closing costs, I can just assume the responsibility from her and bump her off the mortgage.

I recently discovered the rational male and learned about the red, blue, and purple pill. It’s a whole thing that I see value in, but I’m not sure I’m ready to commit to that book. I have watched a few of his podcasts and it makes some sense, but there’s a few things that go a little far in my opinion. Everything in moderation, I suppose!

That is solid advice. I have been trying to find more opportunities to be more social… I will consider something like that!

That sounds like a direct quote from the golden advice page. If so, thank you, it is a very good reminder. If not, you’re just very well versed! I have 2/3, I don’t need validation from a partner, but I do crave that touch and care… typically it’s dismissible. I’ve hit a few walls building skills and doing the things I enjoy. Now I’m trying to fill the gaps while I wait for the resources: money predominantly. Focusing on the free items has gotten a bit monotonous this past month. But another pos…

My life is relatively good. I’m happily unhappy and I guess that’s the issue… I’m a fairly frugal person, but the costs from divorce leave me tight. If I spend less I’ll be coloring at home, if I make more I need a new job or to start working doubles. I’ll sort it out, I always do… Thank you, it is good advice. I’m just a little down and unmotivated at the moment.

It’s all too true. I think my biggest hang up is when it’s not just sex I crave, it’s literal physical comfort - hug, cuddle, massage, skin to skin.

This is fantastic advice! One item I’d add is that I started playing music whenever my mind starts going. Sometimes it’s just quiet background relaxing stuff or other times I really rock out. It helps keep annoying thoughts at bay and breaks the silence. It took a few weeks to get used to that silence… I would add that you should definitely sit with and feel your emotions, I just use the music to drown out “what ifs, maybe I should, I’m a failure” thoughts. Otherwise let it out and understand wh…

This is a good list! My kid, 4, does almost everything I like to do… fishing, birdwatching, fixing things. If there’s anything simple I can have him do we do that. Now that it’s winter, we’ve been going to play places like McDonald’s or sometimes I’ll take him to a bigger one that I can run around in, too. When it snows we go sledding, etc. I’ve also found arranging play dates wildly helpful. Either I’ll take someone else’s kids or they’ll take mine. Or the adults hang out while the kids play.

Yeah, I tried to hold it in, but it just bled out. Entertainingly, at one point it was an LTR that failed I was really hurting about and she was just the cherry on top. Hard to say, IDGAF about you it’s X I’m really sad about, but I def did lol

Stay away from the apps and just do you for sure. Best to sit with the loneliness for a while. After my last flaming dumpster fire of a relationship, I just went to do things I'd been saying no to, "dating myself." There are plenty of women that will interact with you when you're out and about. No need to "hoe" yourself on an app yet. I found it actually caused me more self-esteem issues than it helped. I'm separated 1.5 years, divorced for just over two months, and I learned that lesson too lat…

It's hard, but as someone who didn't get that advice... It's so worth it. 1 year and two relationships later I'm really enjoying myself... Despite how hard it can be at times. Every day it gets a little easier...

"have you considered a pre-nup/ do you trust the govt to make decisions for you" should be a line
/r/Divorce_Men03/08/22 12:16 AM

I don't think you'll get much support in this thread. My wife and I separated and still maintain a friendly relationship, that's the dream right? It's not easy... The person you and they were in marriage doesn't change, so those shortcomings and frustrations will probably come up. Not to mention you two may go through psychological changes that may cause new and rather intense issues. I didn't really hit an anger phase until 6 months post separation and I didn't really have anyone to be angry at…

Mine was a family heirloom. My wife has agreed to return it to the family, but the original arrangement was and will still be passed to our son or my niece. I'll note my divorce isn't finalized, but the papers are drafted for filing and that's the current agreement.
