The comments section on that article (as of the time I'm posting this) made me rather happy. It's good to see people tearing down this - for lack of a better term - bullshit. While articles like this are heavily flawed and the publication thereof questionable, the comments sections are generally reasonably filled with people quickly tearing down the misinformation. If nothing else, we should be able to take some solace in the fact that information is spreading.

I think it should be that people should try to avoid picking on people weaker than them. There are plenty of women who are stronger than men, so making it about men hitting women makes no sense. That being said, people shouldn't be hitting each other anyway, but they shouldn't be antagonizing each other and expecting not to be responded to in kind.

I've seen that as well, from the people I knew. One was a man who was raped by his ex-wife, but as he'd been a member of the army everyone thought it was just laughable for him to claim as much. The other guy was just in fervent denial because hey, guys can't get raped, right? Right?

This shit irritates me. When I was younger I used to enter (and win) many math competitions. Winning just because someone's quota says I should win because of my gender rather than my abilities is insulting if nothing else. Stuff like this is meant to make women more respected (I think? It seems that that's meant to be their goal...) but it just makes them look worse because you can't guarantee they're getting through because of their own abilities, from an outsider's point of view.

I agree that small groups can make a move. The LDP (Australia's libertarian party) has been on the rise every election, so I'm aware that the small groups and individuals can make a difference. That being said, I don't think I personally could make much of a difference beyond donating to causes. I'm simply not well-spoken enough to be on the front lines, nor have I ever been a noticeable person.

I never directly stated that people should be having sex at that age, I just said that people shouldn't "have to suppress the urge for that long". That doesn't mean that I am saying people should be having sex so young, just that 18 isn't suddenly a magical age where people are "ready" for it. As much as I want to empathize with her because of her history, I really can't feel for someone who lets her own experience with isolated incidents influence her entire perspective on a very involved matter. One choice assertion I got out of that was the labeling of men as "creeps" for flirting. This all depends on his age and attractiveness, depending on the girl. Argh number two drives me insane. I have a great, courteous, male friend who nearly stopped talking to this girl in his class because she flipped out on her blog and said that every time a guy talked to her or was polite to her she felt like he was hitting on her. He didn't, but he felt disgusting every time he did because he knew that was what she thought.
