My parents spanked me when I did something bad. This taught me that doing that action resulted in pain even if the pain was only temporary and gone in under a minute. Then when I was older and had the mental capacity to understand, it was explained to me why that action was wrong. Sometimes a young child cannot understand the underlying reason so as a stopgap measure, pain is the most effective motivator there is.

Nope not a rough neighborhood. Actually was an elementary school. Southeastern Kentucky. These were designed by, to my knowledge, a state panel. They were modified holds designed to have the least possibility of causing injury while still restraining a student. Basically the school would not be liable if done properly because the maximum effort had been made to prevent injury. Edit: also there were cameras everywhere so any instances would be recorded

She's had a student try to bite and fight her. Swept his feet out, took him to the ground, and kept him restrained till the on site school officer got there.

Example: Just because I am a tenant in an apartment complex, doesn't give me the right to decide who is allowed to do what in that complex. No one would have started a fund for people to donate money to help the poor guy and his kids.
