So it's not that I'm avoiding the verbal joust, but rather responding with answers that show I'm above her shit-testing? Standing with the high ground, in other words?

You say don't engage in the verbal jousting, but how do I do that? If she offers up a challenge, how exactly do I respond? Do I straight up ignore the comment/question and change the subject?

Ya know, I've had this happen to me a few times and it is very confusing. It could be as straight-forward as the following: She simply changed her mind for some reason. You should DEFINITELY say you had a great time. You're not doing anything wrong by following up shortly afterwards. Maybe you should invite them to do something more specific though. Instead of "Let's do it again soon" say "I'm doing X next weekend, you should join me"

I too am trying to become more confident at daygame. I approached a girl in the gym today even though it was very nerve-wracking. I went up to her and said "Hey, I thought you were really cute and I want to introduce myself, I'm X" She told me her name so I responded with "I'd like to take you out sometime, can I have your #?" She rejected me by saying she had a boyfriend. Although my heart rate was flying and I got rejected I felt like a champ!

Well, move it to kissing first. Don't question it - if she's grinding with you she probably won't mind kissing you. Then move it to another location; ask her if she wants to go outside for some air. Strike up some funny engaging conversation and then follow it up with getting her # or asking her to have a beer with you at your place.

I don't that's entirely true. On more than one occasion I've met a girl on my campus, gone into the woods for a fire, and ended up finding out that I was attracted to them -at- the fire, not beforehand. I agree that to get a girl to come into the woods with you requires a preset amount of trust. Regardless, I still think that it is one of the best methods of escalating from "I'm attracted to him" to "Get on top of me right now"

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
