Male height discrimination is so rooted in every aspect of culture that people stopped seeing it and taking it seriously.By "likeable" traits, I don't mean sympathetic or beautiful. Perhaps the better word to use is "cool" i.e. a male coolness. The tall Gentleman With Thistledown Hair is likeable in the sense that he's cool, ambitious and a great villain. Jonathan Strange (tall) is also ambitious and fearless, a man of the world. Steven Black (tall) is also very, very cool indeed. I recently finished the epic novel 'Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell' by Susanna Clarke. It has a huge gallery of characters and damn nearly every dislikeable male in the novel is described as being short, whereas all the guys with likeable traits are tall.
