<image> By that logic, most men should just self-eliminate, because after all, studies show that most women find most men entirely unattractive (initial attraction/physical only). You're basically saying "I can't risk a relationship with a man, because he might find me less physically attractive as time goes on...studies say so!" Ignoring the fact that affection, shard experience and overall attraction (beyond the physical) can and usually do often increase. Most men are also well aware that the…

Romantic relationships will also have an element of risk. Two people who mutually sacrifice for each other are less likely to run into these sorts of issues. A man who has a vested interest in children and sacrificing for them is far less likely to bail on a woman. I know plenty of men still in love with their wives. Would you say the couples that hit 40+ years of marriage are somehow living a lie? Good men and fathers are usually too overjoyed and find themselves as tired as their wives, being …

38! I will say that I'm a minimalist and a Catholic. I've also studied the great spiritual masters and traditions and philosophers (both east and west), so I'm someone who actively seeks to fit the Christian call to be "in the world but not of the world", so my perspective is a bit different. However, you look at different traditions, including buddhist, and you see this common thread across cultures and religions of those who truly seek peace or even "enlightenment" embracing celibacy. For me, …

What are you feeling bitter towards? A lack of suitable options? Not having a partner/children? Not fitting societal expectations? It all starts with basic, but deep questions- What is your goal in life and would a romantic relationship help you reach that goal? Also, would sharing a relationship help your partner grow and reach their own goals? After all, if a relationship isn't mutually beneficial (not necessarily equally beneficial) to both parties, leading to both growth and and mutual sacri…

I actually rarely comment on here, maybe a couple times a year. I occasionally see a post that interests me and check out the comments for entertainment. I find the resentment between the genders a little sad, though not exactly indicative of reality out in the real world. In my case, I had a few relationships and fun in my youth, but after wading into the slog more than a few times, I realized that I preferred total peace and quiet, even at the expense of companionship and made the decision to …

Nope, 100% comfortable with being single for the rest of my life. No resentment, it's just not for me.

I mean...I'm indifferent to most women. Most men too for that matter. Other people, especially strangers or casual acquaintances aren't particularly interesting to me in most contexts.

This describes me to a certain extent, but I fully realize I'm the exception. I never enjoyed dating or relationships. Sex was ok but not exactly fulfilling. Once I stepped back and realized I just didn't want anything to do with that anymore, I completely dumped all that energy into other aspects of my life. I'm healthier, happier and wealthier than I thought I would have been choosing this path. It was the right choice for me, and I suspect it could be the right choice for many other men and w…

In my parents' case, it's total indifference. My dad finds things to occupy his time, putter around the yard, etc. She's content to go shopping and play on her tablet. His attitude is "cheaper to keep her." They basically just function like roommates now and tolerate each other.

Nothing is worse for a man than appearing desperate. OLD also has a sense of desperation but also provides a distance from the people rejecting you. It's a real catch-22; the men and likely most of the women who would benefit the most from attending these events likely lack the skills or attraction factors that would make them successful.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/11/24 06:06 PM

I just don't buy it. Way to many thirsty men out there. Look at OF. Even my mother's single, 65+ year old, obese friends get attention. Sure, those guys are old/obese themselves who are desperate for one thing, but still. A minority of men (and women too) will drop out, maybe even a few percent more will turn towards AI, but en masse, or enough to "change" the game? Not likely

Agreed. I consider myself lucky that I just never had the drive to endlessly pursue women. Sure I had some fun in my 20s, my share of relationships I stayed in a little to long for no reason other than to not be single. That said, I avoided measuring my worth based on what others thought of me and how many "conquests" I had. I actually felt sorry for my Australian friends who were competing with hedonistic goals like "first dude to 100." It all just seemed tied to some insecurity to me.

Why the need for movements? It doesn't exactly take a lot of brain power to go "gee, I don't like dating. It's a PITA and I don't like my options, guess I'll stay single." The issue many men are having is they struggle to override their carnal desires. I get it. I was a teen & 20-something at one point too. I chased after girls I shouldn't have chased, I freely admit it. However, as I matured and analyzed my life and my wants and goals, I learned to be far more discerning, not just in the romant…

I fell ya, and that's all noble. But relationships have always been largely transactional, right? I bet there were quite a number of people in the past that would not have married if not for the desire to have offspring, protection, assets, alliances, etc. Quite the long list of loveless marriages in the past. In the modern Western World, we should rejoice that most of us aren't bound to these norms. Men and women can vet their options until they find true compatibility. Yes- it takes effort. Ye…

That's the thing...they don't have to. They can happily go about their lives if they so choose. Many in fact are. Many women too. However, if they feel they want a romantic relationship, then they have to accept that they're likely to have some work to do. Or, if they're unwilling to accept that and still want a relationship then they have to change the field they're playing on. Women have to play the game too, it's just they're starting off with an inherent advantage. They have something most m…

Are you capable of loving someone you're 100% not attracted to in anyway- physically or at least intellectually? What if they're an amazing person...but completely incapable of sex. Relationships will always have conditions, that's just the name of the game. You want unconditional love, get a puppy. Oh wait a sec, even the puppy will sour on you if you stop feeding it, paying attention to it, walking it, etc. The dog may not care about what you look like, or what your job title is. But it damn w…

Cool, but let's focus on dating and relating. So let's say we reach the point where every straight woman is now 100% aware & empathetic towards the fact that straight men are having a tougher time with dating and relating. The imbalance still exists, so what do we do about it? As a society, not much. Sure we could try teaching our youth to have even more acceptance and tolerance. Woohoo, even more awareness campaigns! But at the end of the day, we can't force people to do anything. Their own per…

I intended it strictly in the common use sense...meaning that if people don't like the circumstances they find themselves in...they should either learn to accept them or work to change them. Instead, Reddit on the whole seems to be one big pity party...as evidenced plenty on this sub.

That's on the individual to properly vet their options. It would be a wonderful world if everyone got to experience truly romantic love, right? Well...here in the real world, some people end up single, some people end up in acceptable yet unfulfilling relationships, and on and on. I still maintain that in most aspects of our lives, it's on us to either accept our circumstances or change them. Unhappy being single? What do you need to do to attract the types of people you like? Unhappy with your …

I didn't write that I disagreed. I'm just pointing out that it's a fact of life. If you want a romantic relationship with a woman, you have to have something to offer- looks, wealth, resources, status, humor, intelligence, conversational skills, charm, excitement, similar interests, security, shared experience...something. So dating is harder for men. Great, we've acknowledged it. Now what? No ones rights are being violated. We can't force people into relationships. Throughout human history ther…

I found dating and relationships rather unfulfilling. Sex was ok at best and not much of a motivator for me, and "hookups" outside of relationships were hollow pursuits with fleeting sensations. It's just not for me, and I've been happily single for nearly 10 years now. I just have better ways to occupy my time.

I don't want a relationship at all and even I still believe it's absolutely possible. If someone is willing to put in the requisite effort, vet thoroughly, find an optimal yet realistic match and then both members maintain a fairly consistent effort in the relationship, I don't see why a lifelong relationship wouldn't be possible. Barring of course a pre-mature death.

Sex is a vastly overrated, fleeting experience and a hollow pursuit outside actual relationships, imo. I had a bit of fun in my 20s, sure. Been there, did that, got the T-shirt. But I also had much better things to do than try and coax countless girls into bed. And frankly, I have even better things to do with my time now in my 30s. If one needs people to pine for them, then I'd bet they have a bucket of insecurities to work through.

I have, but not due to any "pill" or so-called social theory. And definitely not because of the conditions of today's "market." I dropped out because it suits my life and my goals. I fully support anyone doing what is best for them and their own circumstances. Want a girlfriend/wife, kids, etc? Then you you need to do an honest assessment of what you lack that women want and start taking steps to address it. Want a "good" husband, get honest about what that actually looks like and what those typ…

I feel like we could have a chat sometime that might be of some benefit to you. I'm a 30-something man that gave up on dating/relationships quite some time ago for a number of reasons. I look for meaning in other things, and I'm mostly content in life. But, I see so much malaise, bleakness and resentment in other people my age (both male/female) that I'm tempted to try my hand at life coaching. If nothing else, I might be able to shift some perspectives. Life is definitely not over at 30. Love a…

Just not my thing, though dating wasn't necessarily traumatic for me. It's a simple logical deduction for me, starting with the premise of not wanting children. If I'm not going to have children, then I should avoid marriage. If I'm not getting married, why bother with dating? It's such a slog nowadays and sex isn't enough of a motivator to participate in hookups. As such, I lead a quiet, but peaceful existence. Opportunities still arise from time to time, but now I have to do the gentle rejecti…

Dude here, I don't date or do relationships anymore, but when I did, I focused solely on meeting people in person, rather than the apps. Most of my dates, admittedly, we're friends of friends, people running in the same social circle. But, some were strangers, and I never found it difficult to judge when someone was open to talking. I wouldn't even say I ever had to "game" or "hit" on women either. Just being friendly and having a basic conversation was enough to ask for a number. If they said n…

Mid 30s now, single by choice for quite some time. I will never enter another relationship. Yeah, it can get old doing things alone all the time, but I usually manage 1 or 2 trips a year with friends. That's enough for me.

Due to the nature of my job, I have to train new employees on our applications. Rather than deal with people one on one, I recorded thorough video trainings. I'm available for questions if necessary, but so far no one has come by. I try to limit my interactions at work with anyone- always professional, cordial and responsive if a request is made. Beyond that, I'm a ghost.

So psychology and nature aren't influenced by social conditioning? I think there's more than enough research to suggest otherwise...
/r/MensRights19/09/21 02:11 AM

Male disposability isn't something one would consciously "think" about. It's a product of social conditioning. You'll find it in the neglect of boys in the classroom, the ignoring of the huge drop in male college participation, the disparity in criminal sentencing (male gets worse sentence for same crime). Another way to from it would be to use the term "gender importance." It becomes quite easy to treat people as "monsters" if you don't view them as having the same level of "importance."

This summarizes multiple studies on the social phenomenon of male expendability/disposability https://quillette.com/2019/06/03/considering-the-male-disposability-hypothesis/
/r/MensRights19/09/21 12:28 AM

Yes. That's my point though. To the OP's question, why are men treated as monsters? My response would be-why is that treatment surprising? We're literally conditioning males to devalue their own lives and sense of self worth while also conditioning females to be overly empowered. I'm not saying to not encourage girls, but why are we not encouraging all children equally? Why are so many people (even many feminists) horrified at the concept of women registering for selective service?
/r/MensRights18/09/21 10:15 PM
2

To you and I men are valuable, but let's get real. Males are definitely neglected and treated as disposable commodities. Even in our education system, much more emphasis is placed on girls and their well being. We all know the stats, men are more likely to be victims of violence, suicide, homelessness, etc. Yet Western public policy think tanks and leaders usually phrase the debates as "1/4 of homeless are women," " women and girls are the primary victims of war." This goes beyond biology and st…

I've been lucky with pound saves. Growing up, our family dog was a Lab/Newfoundland mix we adopted as a puppy from the pound. He lived 14 years- a bit dumb but very loving and loyal, not to mention huge...130lbs in his prime. As a teen, my family adopted an 8 year old female chocolate lab from the pound. She was sweet and bright, mellow due to her age but needier than most dogs, hated being alone. Once I moved out on my own and surviving more than a few failed relationships, I decided to adopt a…
