This is a very important point. It is so easy to question yourself, put blame on yourself, doubt yourself when others are mistreating you. It is easy to sympathize with others more than yourself, to try to understand why they are mistreating you. The fact is: it doesnt matter why they are doing it. Their treatment of you is not justified. If they feel that you somehow deserve to be treated badly, then they dont deserve your presence.

Exactly. Nothing excuses abusive behavior. Either they fix it, or they dont. Either way, it is no one's responsibility but their own. You dont have to tolerate, you shouldn't minimize it. You shouldn't let sympathy prevent you from establishing personal boundaries on how you let others' treat you. No exceptions. Honestly, I think the fundamental problem starts earlier in life. When we instill the ideas that boys should do this and girls should do that. That boys are good at this and girls are good at that. And realistically nothing is ever going to be 100% fair as long as only part of the population can afford college and further studies. So, there is that to consider.
