Exactly. I was raised as a feminist, believed in feminism and equality, and, if going by definition, still am one technically. I believe in equal rights for everyone, support progressive values, even changed my once strongly held religious views for it, and by far the wokest person in my circles, and probably also in my friends’, family’s, and colleagues’ circles as well. But where were my allies when I needed support, or when I faced inequality? No where. Too busy turning around to call you an …

I don’t necessarily disagree, but you are disputing me over semantics, yes boys are conditioned by the patriarchy, but the patriarchy is misandrist. There is no contradiction. I am not mad at the “wrong thing”. I also do not believe girls with autism have “a walk in the park” either. The reason I wrote misandry over patriarchy is because the term patriarchy is frequently used misleadingly, eg. where you say it’s “an idea imposed by men under the patriarchy”, ie. a convenient excuse where you get…

I think I read a study somewhat recently that suggested that in young children autism presents in similar ways, but many boys learn it’s not socially acceptable for boys to behave that way, so “mask” by overcompensating. So essentially, you’re either conditioned by misandry to behave a certain way, then it’s claimed you’re privileged for being “coddled”, or, like me, you miss the memo and present with symptoms more traditionally female and get ignored, but are still called privileged regardless.…

I can understand blaming it on the patriarchy in a sense – as in boys are treated one way to make them into strong men, girls treated another way because they are weak and fragile; ie. toxic gender stereotypes in a very conservative country. However, what people always fail to address is that “the patriarchy” is a system upheld by society, now it might have been possible in the past to make the argument that the majority of women once had no power in society, but that’s certainly not the case no…

Literally the definition of toxic masculinity, promoting stereotypes, and patriarchal conditioning; I guess it’s okay when they do it. There’s a reason they refuse to simply call it misandry. How do you manage to keep faith in humanity and not become misanthropic? That’s the neat part; you don’t.

“Toxic masculinity is sociological construct, but the concept covers exaggerated masculinity, or outdated or unhealthy interpretations of masculine traits and attitudes… This can sometimes lead to people developing a narrow or 'unbalanced view' of what it means to be a man and this can put boys and men under pressure to act in a certain way.” ~ BBC “Academically speaking, toxic masculinity is the way men are culturally trained and socially pressured to behave… Young boys are taught by their care…

Toxic masculinity is the expectations of men based on toxic gender roles, to conform to restrictive societal norms and pressure men to behave in rigid, stereotypical ways. What would you call expectations placed on women, to conform to traditional gender roles, restrictive societal norms that pressure women to behave in rigid, stereotypical ways based on their gender other than misogyny? When women (or men) police other women about how they should behave, about what they’re allowed to do, about …

“Autistic M3N are protected because they're m3n in general by society as a whole, AND they're double protected by a separate large group of people who coddle them because of their disability.” Well that’s a lie. They're addicted to and love their hate so much they’re blind to the most obvious elephant in the room, but nobody wants to listen, they’d rather keep their hate and cut their nose off to spite their face. The patriarchy only protects those who fit within strict traditional values, hiera…

I can imagine suffragettes and the White Feather Movement saying “your body, my choice” when they publicly shamed men into dying in the trenches for them. That would be 100% be an attack on men, their body autonomy, and their rights. This kind of logic has existed in pretty much every war in history, even recently in Ukraine and Gaza. It is something the privileged say/believe of those thought beneath them… or those they own/control, I can imagine the same thinking existing during slavery, or an…

Because of empathy. People have instinctive empathy for women and not for men, sometimes that empathy will be a complete virtue signal and the people are utter two-faced vile bigots, but with men they won’t even bother with a façade. The simplest ever-present example, so ubiquitous to be totally unnoticed - movies. Need some henchmen killed for the action or bystanders killed to raise the stakes or a guy killed for comedic effect? Hire a man. Use a woman for the first time (as per the actor’s re…

“British News Network” took me a minute 😝 I’ve thought along similar lines with oral/anal sex and buttholes, that’s always felt weirdly normalised, the way people talk about it or expectations around it… or attitudes around sex in general really. Another side of the disposability equation is not only are men expected to put themselves in harm's way, they're expected to be so ultra-competent that they can subdue another man without any risk of serious harm to them or going even a little too hard, if you fail that test you're also disposable. "Always protect everyone, never make a mistake, and don't expect any extra respect even if you do it." That's their ideal male behaviour, and it's borderline suicidal from a man's perspective. That wh…

That reminds me of the Conservatives/UKIP/Reform - they complain about things like immigration, blame every problem in society on immigration, things would be great if it wasn’t for [out-group], push through an economically damaging hard Brexit to “solve” the problem only for it to get worse (which is exactly what the Left said would happen), but they were in charge for 15 years… “Vote for us so we can fix the problems we’ve manufactured, don’t ask why we haven’t fixed them already.” “Let’s spen…

It just occurred to me that this could be another “paper straw phenomenon”. Paper straws are worse for the environment than recycling the plastic, same as how “bags for life” are on average worse than reusing the normal bags, or how speed-bumps in the road kill 88 people for each 1 they save, it’s all an exercise in just being seen to be doing something but without actually doing anything. It lets companies pretend that they are “progressive”, to look like they are “ethical” and “woke”, to manip…

I’ve been thinking recently that “patriarchy” is one of those things… I believe it exists but they deliberately use misleading language, weasel words, to describe it. Because what it really means is “confidence oligarchy” or “traditional male gender role reward culture” or “enforced toxic masculinity”. “Toxic masculinity” is another, its generally used to describe “men who are toxic” when they could use language that already exists - “internalised misandry”. When called out on that they’ll say “…

Exactly. Statistically those with ASDs are going to struggle to fit in, and are likely to have high social anxiety and not read social situations well. Someone telling me to just “pretend to have confidence”, when I literally don’t know how, my brain doesn’t work that way, I can’t project a different version of self, might as well be telling me to “cheer up” with depression and anhedonia, or tell someone in a wheelchair to “pretend you can walk”. The fact that an alleged psychologist would reply with such condescending strawmen says it all really about much they’re worth listening to. Let’s see what actual surveys say… 40% of autistic men are virgins, and “incels” are 30 times more likely to be autistic, huh, neat. Ofc that still means 60% aren’t, and there are plenty of charismatic and successful neurodivergent people, not all ASDs are the same, and success arguably leads to confidence (which is essentially charisma anyway), but the ide…

I’m not American, Googling it in the last 20 years Democrats have gone from identifying as 30% liberal to 46% liberal but also have dropped 8% in viewing socialism as positive in the last 5 years. I guess it’s going in the right direction, who knows, maybe in 40 years the US will have moved beyond two flavours of conservatism and won’t have 50 kids being shot per day, or 33 black men being killed for every 1 white woman by state agents, or not have the world’s largest imprisoned slave population…

To slowly pull the party [/Overton Window] Left. Well, that’s the theory, but this is a genuine question - has that ever happened in history? Because it seems to me all that happens is the “Left” party knows they can take your vote for granted, offer you nothing, and merely have to be not quite as bad/right-wing as the other party, resulting in the Overton Window only ever shifting Right. If I was American I’d probably vote for Harris, in the same way I voted for Starmer, but I’m tired of these …

To copy what I wrote elsewhere 9 months ago: In times of war countries tend to throw certain values out of the window, or whenever else they become inconvenient. For a more obvious recent example - in Ukraine you’re forced to fight and barred from leaving the country, in Russia if you speak out in any way you’re sent to the front lines or imprisoned. Any man who does manage to attempt to seek asylum is frequently labelled a “coward” at best for fleeing a war zone, from public shaming in their ow…

“It’s everywhere now”, as if there was a time when it wasn’t? I realised it was a cult about 15+ years ago when feminist activists told me a man can never be a victim under any circumstance because of “power dynamics”. Rape and sexual assault, doesn’t matter, can’t be a victim. Most likely to be assaulted or murdered, and attacked by strangers in random violence, including by state agents, doesn’t matter, can’t be a victim. Most likely to be targeted and kept as a modern slave for the plutocracy…

Anyone else find this suggestion “while women compete only when they believe they are top performers” misogynistic anyway? It seems to imply that women only try when they believe they are the best, which would suggest that 1) most women who try are delusional because numerically everyone can’t be the best and 2) women are natural quitters, which doesn’t reflect my experience, or reality, at all. I’ve notice things like this a lot recently, like there is such a narrative to portray women as weak …

As far as I know it isn’t reliably confirmed that she is intersex or isn’t, but regardless you can be cis (or trans) and be intersex, as cisgender simply means someone is the gender that was assumed for them at birth. As she was AFAB and identifies as female that makes her cis.

Go to any UK news thread about homelessness, housing, or immigration and it’s not long before you can find one popular comment or several with the outraged rhetoric of “they’re all single men.” You know, because single men deserve to die. Despite seeing this probably hundreds of times only once have I seen it called sexist/misandry. As you say, nobody cares.

I don’t really have anything to add that others haven’t already said, I find the lack of empathy towards male victims disgusting. I saw a comment yesterday that unironically said “if any other demographic was killed at the same rate that men kill women there would be outrage”, completely ignoring the fact that 1) men are killed by men at three times that rate, and no one gives a shit, men kill themselves at a much higher rate even, and 2) there are multiple genocides happening in the world that …

Your talking about the future also got me thinking. But men aren't allowed to be this fluid in society though. Both men and WOMEN (including Feminists) would look down on men who don't adhere to male traditional gender roles like being a provider, protector, or an overly ambitious/confident person. Hence why terms like gay, virgin, or feminine are still use as insults on men in society. You will still even see these same insults use on men in the most progressive/liberal places too. An OECD report on gender in education, across more than 60 countries, found that girls receive higher marks compared with boys of the same ability, a consistent pattern of girls' work being "marked up". It suggests that "teachers hold stereotypical ideas about boys' and girls' academic strengths and weaknesses". Researchers suggest girls are better behaved in class and this influences how teachers perceive their work, rewarding "organisational skills, good behaviour and compliance" rather than o…

Just thinking about Gone Girl stresses me out, it wouldn’t have been too bad had the psychopath not gotten away from it or the film treat it as it was justified in some way or if the police woman was listened to, but I literally had to check who wrote it afterwards because I thought it was some horror caricature from a paranoid MGTOW redpiller of their every fear… but nope it’s a “feminist story” about empowerment, ok, sure, fully through the looking glass. Another that comes to mind was the TV show “Grimm”, where the main character is raped by a witch (a recurring villain) who uses a spell to look exactly like his wife, the villain then becomes pregnant, insert a bunch of gaslighting, guilt tripping, and victim blaming, eventually the villain is redeemed, but no one ever talked about or addresses the rape, nor calls it rape nor even sexual assault, nor being forced to becoming a parent.

I hate how people think this is some kind of “gotcha”, as if it somehow matters whether the problems and violence you face is perpetrated by people in one of the same demographics as you or not. I don’t think the relationship between gender and emotion is culturally universal, modern or historically. I think a lot of what it comes from in the west is shit left over from the Victorian era. So it’s not gender essentialism/determinism, it’s just social conditioning.

feeling-shaming isn't exclusive to toxic masculinity. No it isn’t, but in this case it is “toxic masculinity” by its normal definition, the hypocrisy is that it’s never called as such and demonstrates how it’s a poor loaded term. As in, toxic masculinity is the “expectations a person has of what it means to be male, or a “real man”, that is toxic”, so in this case the female author who gets the “ick” from men being emotional is displaying toxic masculinity, because she expected men to be unemoti…

Fragile masculinity… but not as fragile as a literal bear I guess. Hmm, I guess the enemy is both weak and strong. This also seems relevant: Never believe they are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. I do think it’s kinda funny that the expectation that women would fear a bear more than a man is “based on misogyny”, here I was thinking it was based on expecting women to be rational adults and not hysterical. Something I would have thought feminists would have wanted. But now, the irony is, it’s apparently “misogynistic” to expect women to not be hysterical, it’s sexist to not infantilise women. No. I think you’re right. As I said in my comment this was the first I’ve heard about it fortunately, maybe it’s more of a US thing. When I was looking it up I misread a tweet of “I'd rather be lost in the woods with a bear than with a black guy” as being an actual originator tweet rather than a hypothetical scenario that wasn’t said. The project of global white supremacy often required the support of white women and used the language of women’s rights to justify the oppression of Blacks and imperial conquest throughout Asia. The British feminism of the late 19th was not immune to the myth of a superior British national culture and empire. Seems like a dogwhisle a little bit to me though, if being “black” doesn’t matter why did they specify “black man” when they could have just said “man”. I could have understood it if they’d said about choosing a “black bear” over a “black man”, because it’s a more poetic phrasing, and (iirc) black bears aren’t as violent. But they didn’t specify what kind of bear and yet went out of their way to specify what kind of man, then when called out, can just go “we’d not pick any kind of man”. It remin…

The narrative I’ve heard a lot to support sex workers is that - yes, it is “selling your body” but how is that any different from selling your body to work manual labour or selling your body to fight in a war? If I remember correctly the first concept of a god was female, or at the very least the Sky Father/Earth Mother trope. I think with the invention of agriculture came the concept of “ownership”, who owns what, who inherits what, those who have and those who have not, which necessitated the idea of marriage and then control, my land, my food, my wife, etc. Over time I guess it became less about literal physical strength and more feudalism of who owns the most, and therefore has the most power. Pretty much what I was going to say. TERFs and RFs have identically hateful views simply only disagreeing on what groups constitute “male”. The analogy with who is “white” is good, as when looking deeper it is far more arbitrary than just skin colour, it’s more white = good, black = bad, so it’s not surprising that the more nationalist and white supremacist a group is the more narrow the definition of what “white” is, hence mixed race people aren’t white, to Greeks, Italians, Spanish, Portuguese…

I think the genital mutilation is the most concise example of this. Feminism stands to lose absolutely nothing by being against child mutilation of either sex, regardless of which is worse or which is most common, and yet they choose only to focus on one gender. As it’s been explained to me the premise of “toxic masculinity” is shorthand for “toxic expectations of what it means to be male” (I try to refer to it as “toxic gender expectations”). The problem is, is that it doesn’t sound like what it means - no one calls “toxic expectations of what it means to be female” “toxic femininity” it’s just called “misogyny” or “patriarchy” or “mansplaining”, so regardless of which way the bigotry flows the onus is being placed on men regardless of whether they are…

The thing is I think you’re both right. “Toxic behaviour towards [what’s expected of] men” is toxic masculinity, but I do also believe the term is deliberately misleading and loaded. A lot of the people who hold toxic masculinity ideals are women but the term doesn’t convey that easily, like if you have to overly explain the term every time you probably need a better one. I get that. It's just the only thing I stated as true was that women's products cost more which they do, I immediately go on to say that is because of economics rather than sexism (like you said). Yeah or that. Not sure why I'm getting down voted though, was just trying to start an open discussion and I was still critical of it either way. Great first post >.> guess I'll go back to lurking.

To be fair women's products generally cost more than the mens, in examples such as razors or deodorant for instance, the product is the same apart from gender stereotyped packaging. I suppose it's priced more because women are willing to pay more so it's economics rather than 'patriarchy'. Either way if this shop was about that I could actually see the point they are making, but nope it's about bullshit pay gap statistics. Again.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
