She's a really smart feminist writer. She's brought up a lot of critiques and issues that I found worthwhile to grapple with. But finding out that she is a direct beneficiary of ruthless exploitation makes me realize she was corrupt and hypocritical the entire time. This is a perfect illustration of the pitfalls of moral righteousness.

There is an issue here with the concept of emotional labor. It's originally a left-wing concept describing affective labor, referring to the professional expectation of stoicism at most workplaces and/or having to act cheery and happy at a public-facing job when you're dying inside, etc. We all have experienced this. She couldn't even defend her thesis all the way through the end of the article. The first chunk of the article is all about right wing bad faith (fair enough) and then she starts in on the "no true feminist" fallacies. But in the last three paragraphs she just drops the pretense and starts writing about the horrible consequences that occur when society doesn't believe all individual women. The New York Times has got to be the shittiest, yellowest rag in the entire liberal media sphere.

It's evident in the worldview. As someone comes to understand the interdependent nature of sexual selection pressure and how our preferences influence each other, they start realizing were all doing this to each other so we're all in this together.
