In the modern day and age I think women have the advantage, but based on how my parents decided to do things I think being a guy might have been for the best

You're appealing to status quo and majority. None of that proves your claim nor discredits mine. You're not a very persuasive person

It is coming up though. We see the research is being done. Just because doctors you know of aren't talking about it doesn't mean it is not true. You're not doing so hot in this debate

Women's sexual health isn't talked about much. Why would you be surprised that the work concerning semen retention and orgasm is not discussed?

You're rejecting the science without reason. Your loss

Pregnancy isn't guaranteed. There are a ton of factors that go into it, some of which are tied to seminal fluid quality. Sperm that are mechanically taken closer to the ovum have greater odds of fertilizing. I did a Google research and the data shows orgasm increases the likelihood of pregnancy. Your data shows nothing contradicting that
/r/PurplePillDebate05/03/19 11:16 AM
1

None of what you wrote changes the fact that semen being retained deeper in the body increase the likelihood that a woman in estrus will get pregnant. The fact that women can get pregnant without orgasm doesn't change that women are more likely to become pregnant if they orgasm. For someone so certain you had this debate on lock you're doing a poor job refuting very simple findings.

The study distinguishes between low and high fertility conditions. That doesn't change semen retention. None of your post changes the fact that orgasm increases the likelihood that a fertile woman will get pregnant.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/03/19 04:41 AM

The amount of semen retained increases the likelihood of pregnancy. That study found orgasm increases semen retention. This is most probably connected to uterine peristalsis during/following orgasm. It's pretty straight forward.

Yes. Although sample sizes were not large enough for rigorous frequentist hypothesis testing (Tabachnick & Fidel, 2007), there are still things about the data that can be explored statistically. The differences between the hypothesized high and low fertility conditions were not significant but comparisons were made between the aggregated orgasm and non-orgasm conditions for each of the six participants. Treating the combined orgasm and non-orgasm conditions as paired samples showed that there wa…

I always thought part of this functioned [either purposefully or unpurposefully] as a means of filtering out wack men. Since female orgasm is typically more difficult to achieve, yet also contributes to pregnancy by causing the cervix to contract, men who are less committed, unable to delay gratification, and are less caring can be detected and rejected.

Do you know why women don't want a guy who spends all his time at the gym? Because most women like a fair bit of attention from their boyfriends--and if he keeps bailing on you because it's leg day, that's going to be very annoying, and generally not worth the slight physical improvements over a guy who only works out a few times a week. You have a point with the attention vs gym time conflict, but you're underplaying how much difference there is between an everyday commitment and a 3-day/week c…

Whenever we complain about the misogyny of TRP they try to use the disingenuous "but it's just men trying to improve themselves" argument, because they do not want to admit that things like "women are mentally like children" or "women are mentally handicapped and can't think logically" are misogynistic. This is a really good analysis and it's something we see in other philosophies. Neoliberals and free-market supporters often use trade as the foundation of their arguments so they can say "if you…

Go to pub nights. They're the best for meeting folks I find. If you dance you make friends on the dance floor. If you're a pool shark you can meet people on that end of the pub. Darts? You bet you can meet people. Everyone is already drinking and socializing so everything flows nicely.

When I think about it I lose interest. I find the only way to enjoy romance anymore is to just go with the flow and forget trying to be a tactician or strategist. Do it for the experience and the feelings rather than the outcomes and trying to play the power dynamics.

Competition. The competitiveness of the game is really something that people try to wandwave away. Men who take it seriously are labeled douchebags for their competitiveness. "Everyone is a winner" sounds nice but it's just not accurate if we look at who is really doing the best romantically

Oh I interpreted it as you saying there's no correlation. I agree, he can't prove the causal relationship
/r/PurplePillDebate14/02/19 08:20 PM
1

I agree and I don't think he has that evidence. But I still disagree with the view there is no correlation.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/02/19 07:37 PM
1

If the desired things in life are finite and women have more of them than before because of feminism, then men who have less of them may feel some type of way. Feminism correlates with climate change science if we're being honest, but we know that greenhouse gases are the causal factor rather than gender philosophy. You've not shown the correlation doesn't exist and he's not shown it's causal. Both of you are making claims that are stronger than the evidence can justify
/r/PurplePillDebate14/02/19 05:38 PM
1

I'm not sure if the suffragettes count as part of the feminist cannon. They didn't even want black women to have the vote. Feminist philosophy is more widely available than ever before and women are more empowered than ever. If his argument is that this power has affected men then it's plausible that women at their most powerful can cause the dramatic effects he's describing
/r/PurplePillDebate14/02/19 05:10 PM
1

Sure. Does that make it desirable?
/r/PurplePillDebate14/02/19 04:55 PM

The stats typically measure the direction and strength of the correlation. We can still see there is a correlation even if we don't know how strong it is
/r/PurplePillDebate14/02/19 04:30 PM
0

If they occur within a similar time frame that's correlative. If x happens where there is y that is correlative. It's like ice cream sales and violent crime. It doesn't mean it's causal but I don't see how you can justify saying it's not correlative

/r/PurplePillDebate14/02/19 05:06 AM

homicide is typically a bigger social ill than divorce and general domestic violence

Hypergamy is not possible for everyone. If most women want hypergamous monogamous relationships then many will inevitably end up never finding anyone since there is a finite number of elite men. They can solve this if they allow themselves to be part of an haram or be concubines/mistresses, or if they 'settle'. What man wants to be the guy she settled for? What woman wants to be one of a rich man's many whores? It's damaging to healthy relationships as it promotes unrealistic standards. It's aki…

I think your view is too far on the opposite side of things. I have two key criticisms: You can't know in advance how good a sex or relationship partner someone will be. You'll have to take a chance on them. You can't force a relationship to go according to plan, because life is always going to throw unpredictable shit at you. You'll have to learn to adapt. You can't manipulate someone into loving you without sacrificing the experience of authentic mutual love. If you try, you're just cheating y…

If there's no subjectivity then we wouldn't see people seeking out those like their parents. It outright contradicts a universal standard of beauty.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/19 06:05 PM
1

We also tend to be attracted to those like ourselves. My maternal parent is mixed and I'm mixed and have a preference for the phenotypes mixed folks have. It doesn't contradict evolution that groups would be partially united by their preference for their own.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/19 05:23 PM
1

What makes the studies in favour of universal standards of beauty stronger than those against? Theory? There's hurt as much theory that points to subjectivity. The only way to univeralize beauty accurately is to break down the species into many smaller demographics which can then be generalized, but that act itself conflicts with the idea of a singular standard of beauty everyone holds
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/19 04:46 PM
2

There are also studies that prove the opposite. The fact that folks say "I don't find (insert ethnicity here) attractive" suggests objective beauty doesn't exist

It's not. The economist published something about declining intimacy among millennials and psychology today published a piece about how a lack of sex can be harmful to men's mental health. People who are pushing ideology are going to do just that, so look to the scholarly work if you want even-handed analysis
/r/PurplePillDebate03/02/19 04:13 PM

Beauty is subjective. However, there is research that gives us good reason to think that a significant portion of people will find you more attractive if you improve your grooming/hair, clothing, and body language. One of the easiest ways to look more attractive is to stop slouching.

I work construction, too, and I'm finishing my BA. Your story is super relatable. It can be uncomfortable being in front of a bunch of well-dressed people when you're just coming off a dirty job but one thing I noticed in your story is that you didn't change or anything and I think that's the big thing. On days where I can't change before class, I often feel more confident than on days where I throw on my gym clothes. Wearing your work, literally, makes it easier to own it and feel comfortable.

This is an interesting idea and I agree. The Atlantic recently published a piece about Bonobo behaviour that fits your thesis well and is something I plan on writing about tomorrow. Essentially, among Bonobos we see more female solidarity and coalition than among humans. What seems to be the case to me is that thus has helped women control sexual behaviour and puts pressure on men to change their sexual behaviour. Something that is notable about #MeToo is that we see an overwhelming female coope…

It functions that way. Your definition implies that most forms of competition are essentially proving-grounds and therefore satisfy the requirements for a shit test. This is a really broad definition, if i'm understanding your message.

I assumed you were a woman but you seem to be advocating for TRP, so now I think that assumption was wrong. Your reasoning also means BP is a shit test. There are tons of ladies here who disagree with that.
/r/PurplePillDebate31/01/19 03:23 PM
5

Those ideas don't only exist online, though. Universities have events, posters, programs, and departments dedicated to those very ideologies. If women had such an issue with their inaccuracy I would imagine your view would be more common on campuses. Your view suggests that the concept of a shit test is real and feminism functions as another form of it.

Neil Strauss followed up The Game with Rules to the Game. In the book, he essentially gives guys a walk through on how to build up to the point you're talking about without all your hostile language. I have two issues issues with your reasoning. Women fawn over men they never even met and may never meet, such as celebrities. If we know this then why would we think attraction requires pursuit? Doesn't make sense, guy. Nightclubs function as sexual display grounds and studies have given us good insight into how this plays out. Dancing, clothing (or lack thereof), eye contact and more are all displays that build attraction, often before any actual engagement occurs. If women needed to be pursue…

In a 2004 study by Stevens Aubrey, it was found that programs geared towards teens and young adults (90210, Dawson's Creek, etc) overwhelmingly had storylines where sex initiated by women led to negative consequences. He found 221 of these scenes had negative consequences (pregnancy, divorce, and so on) while only 28 had positive consequences, which is more or less the inverse for sex scenes initiated by men.

The reason is pretty easy to discern if you spend any time reading or consuming media. Sentiments like "No new friends" and "I see way too many people here right now that I didn't know last year; who the fuck are y'all?" fill a lot of our most popular music. Will Smith is often quoted for his infamous "if you weren't there for my struggle you won't be there for my success" line. I can't find a way to reconcile this with the RP model of attraction in any case. I think it's reasonable to assume that divorces occur at older ages than breakups, on average. Women are supposedly at their most valuable when young. Therefore, the hypergamous woman should spend her youth constantly breaking up with men and then marrying the best one, because her value is decreasing faster than her husband's. This seems to be the opposite of what happens in reality. Why? Diminishing returns?

I think this would also depend on how one factors race into a social categorization. I'm not positing absolutism. You are the one whose view is postured as though marriage took one shape and it was a shape which did not permit lifelong sexual relationships. Moreover, medieval marriage, presumably in western Europe, does not actually permit you to make a claim about all modes of patriarchal society.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/11/18 03:20 AM
2

I minored in history and I've done coursework in the fields of both gender and sexuality. If this view is so strong then why is your previous comment simply an ad hominem?
/r/PurplePillDebate21/11/18 02:54 AM
2

So women are reduced to one function within that social context? Women are hypersexual but nobody is getting laid outside of procreation? And men, in a pre-internet porn era, are just taking this on the chin, despite the fact that they, as a class, have all the social power within this patriarchy? Nah.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/11/18 02:50 AM
2

I don't want that. I want a double income, no kids. I assume men who do want that want kids. A lot of people still hold the view that mothers need to be with kids all the time and that kids develop best that way if one parent is wholly committed to that role. That parent, in this view, ought to be the woman, since women are better caregivers.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/11/18 02:44 AM
2

It's hard to take you seriously when you refer to sex as sexy times. Your view is in sharp contrast with the history of sexuality, which at one point epitomized women as the hypersexual ones. This, in combination with the fact that women's marriages were often treated as bargaining chips to secure resources, makes me think your view is inaccurate.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/11/18 02:41 AM
2

You just wrote " In a patriarchy, wives are there for childbearing and family formation. They are not there for sexy sexy times. That is not their function." Yet at the same time, marital rape was A-OK. Can you clarify why a patriarchy can't permit a healthy sex life for the entirety of the marriage?
/r/PurplePillDebate21/11/18 01:59 AM
2

That adds more content than the concept of "patriarchy" actually contains. A male-headed society does not necessarily need to restrict women to childbearing.

They're essentially being subsidized by cultural norms that shield them from certain costs which we wouldn't hesitate to inflict upon men. This is an interesting point. A common argument in favour of abortion rights is based on a view that men would be given these rights without a second thought if they were the ones who gave birth. I think this is true, but also that men would be left out to dry in terms of financial safety nets. We already see society is often stingy with helping men as it is,…

Thank you. A bit off topic, I know, but it's always something I wonder when the topic of women's unhappiness within the dating sphere arises. Seize the means of happiness production More reasonably, I also think there's some suggestion that people in the dating sphere are likely going to skew unhappy no matter how it is due to the fact that they are presumably dissatisfied as people simply being unwed or single.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/11/18 12:24 AM

What if women are incapable of being happy due to their perpetual, unsolvable discontent being a selected trait which actually drives human progress? Each skyscraper man builds, every mountain man conquers, merely attempts at pleasing women who have inevitably grown dissatisfied with the previous ones man erected and climbed to win their favour? Chris Rock humourously provides a starting point into this view: But here’s one thing nobody tells you. You can’t make a woman happy. It’s impossible. I…

Because you implied that it's longer, requiring more dedication, and that people who couldn't hack law and med school got filtered down into your nursing program. You didn't show that nursing is as hard, just that it's different. Being a professional chef is different than being a McDonald's employee. The fact that there are more of one than the other suggests that one is tougher to get into, though.

Being very hard does not mean that nursing is as difficult as med school. Were those pre med students unable to land spots in med school? Because if they were, your counter argument doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. You appear to have taken a personal stake in this argument. Nursing programs are not nearly as competitive as med school. Not only do doctors do the same bio-Chem stuff as nurses, they need top marks to get into med school after, whereas nurses can be middle of the road in terms of grades and still land a job. So for a woman who seeks a man who eclipses her, a nurse will not do. For a man who is a doctor, a nurse is fine.

Your conclusion is too broad. I agree with the statement that women dislike men who are pushovers or unassertive, and that this suggests that women tend to prefer aggressive men, however, there is a particular kind of domineering manhood that women prefer. I currently find hypergamy to be the most convincing explanation due to the fact that women seem to disregard height mostly when the male excels in other spheres of life to compensate for being short. Additionally, women seek men who are their "better" in essentially everything, whether that's money, athleticism, intelligence, etc. What is funny is that sometimes, it almost seems like the more classically feminine a woman is the moreso her husband eclipses her in these other areas of life. Women call men dogs but don't actually use that realization to their advantage. Another poster mentions that there can be a lack of gratitude. I agree, and in the context of this metaphor, what is striking is that a woman will call a dog a good boy and pet his belly yet fail to use this same kind of reward-centric approach to encourage the desired behaviour of her man. The result is a man who doesn't know if he's a good boy and a woman who's unsatisfied with her man's behaviour.

I didn't make a point other than your generalization was poor and inaccurate. You tried to explain it better and it doesn't make anymore sense. Idk, my foreman is pretty alpha. I think traditionally masculine careers, whether legal or illegal, are where you will find "alpha"-esque men. People develop social arrangements around power and control almost naturally. Go to any mechanic shop, factory floor, oil field, etc, and this will most likely be the case there, too. Feminized workspaces don't permit this as much

Cosign this 100%. There are so many times during back and forths that I find myself constantly needing to probe people for the full context of their views because they take it as a given that I understand all the properties they take to be true. You said personalities balance, like a see-saw. However, the balancing of a see-saw is due to keeping equal weight on each side of the fulcrum. What aspects of personality are represented by weight? What part of a relationship is the fulcrum? You simply made a vague metaphor and didn't explain any of it.

In a CMV thread, it is only logical that you would be explaining your view to me. Whose view is that and how does it relate to your original premise that men and women are designed to have certain sexual strategies? Men pursue higher paying work, exercise more, and take on more physical hobbies, in contrast to women's pursuit of lower paying jobs, sedentary lifestyles, and less dangerous hobbies. What's the connect…
/r/PurplePillDebate19/10/18 02:28 AM

That's a false dichotomy. Inaction is a choice akin to action. Men and women are both made, just through different processes. The concept of performing beauty supports this. What is the connection between gender production and sexual strategy ?

Nature doesn't necessarily suggest men pursue and women just look pretty. In many species, males have the prettier pelts. In others, being the best dancer gets the girl. Humans are far too varied in culture and biology for your heuristic to be applied, at least in a place as heterogeneous as metropolitan Toronto. Meme
/r/PurplePillDebate19/10/18 01:40 AM

This is a cool thought. I would agree. If I and someone else are great for each other from 2018-2021, and then become different people, breaking it off to pursue relationships w/ people more like our current selves, it doesn't seem like a loss (unless one of us takes the house or whatever). I think the thing that prevents people from viewing breakups more positively is that they expect eternal love, till death, so anything short of that is uncomfortable and unpleasant.

I kind of like being expendable. There's a comfort in knowing that it is widely assumed I am strong enough to bear any hardships life may throw my way. Also, despite what the vocal minority screeches, ladies often respond well to it. Giving your seat up to those less capable of standing, letting the feeble go first, carrying heavier loads to make up for those around you, and more, all tend to get positive responses, in my experience.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/18 01:30 AM

This is interesting, particularly within the scheme of the 'ageing like wine' metaphor. How many young ladies actually appreciate a rare, finely aged wine? It's not exactly something the average college girl is spending her money to drink. Could the very nature of aged men be something that only a comparatively refined woman can appreciate? Interesting idea. Thanks for the inspo.

Isn't this view flawed on both sides of the the issue due to the inherent lack of objective, universal barometers for attractiveness? Economic thinking is not detrimental to a relationship if both parties are employing it. Demanding men abstain from taking such an approach is to demand men make themselves vulnerable to exploitation and manipulation.

Tbh, we actually don't have much reason to believe this. Where is the empirical evidence for RP's effectiveness? I've actually seen nothing tangible that clearly and directly confirms its effectiveness as a strategy, let alone its superiority to other philosophies/ideologies
/r/PurplePillDebate29/09/18 03:14 PM

I would rephrase it differently, just out of preference since wrong and right are subjectively determined, but you're onto something with your view that there is a disconnect between what men are saying they want and who they are actually pursuing. We see the same with women, though. What would you say about that parallel? Are they lying or are they genuinely dogs fooled into chasing cars?

Thug life. Tbh, though, death externalizes people, especially young people.

That syllogism assumes human rationality. Dan Ariely has effectively shown that this assumption is not always reasonable. In dating, among a species notorious for going insane while in love, this would be doubly so.

I agree with that, we totally exaggerate women's fragility and niceness. It would make sense, then, that the repulsion to cruel men we would expect may be a less reasonable expectation than we may believe. Interesting angle. I think a lot more could be done on this. Robert Green already touches on it a bit in the art of seduction
/r/PurplePillDebate25/09/18 12:16 PM

Those are dangerous ideas, to think we can draw conclusions without knowing why we drew them. I've been attracted to otherwise physically unappealing people based on other factors. In light of that, it seems crucial you explain how you know that 90% of attraction is physical.

Spending a lot of time in a female dominated discipline (sociology), I internalized ideas about the male gaze being inherently "problematic" [I've come to loathe this term] and viewed traditional notions of love and romance as unacceptable. Spending more time outside of the academy, I realize that my university reverberates one-sided, miopic views, reproducing ideology rather than verified knowledge. When you leave campus, ideas about men being strong, stoic, fixers, and more not only prevail, t…

You're going to use a single anecdote to argue against a claim which applies to a large trend? One outlier case does not disprove the rule, sir. Do you know the characters of these women, btw? Are these girls or women?
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 11:59 PM

Pardon the delay, I'm juggling too many things. His view rests largely on the ubiquity of women loving men who make them feel safe. I imagine we can contrast this with women who are attracted to danger and risk-takers, but i think those kinds of men actually show strength in their ability to keep women safe in dangerous, threating scenarios. They actually can be explained with his view quite well.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 11:56 PM
1

How do you know that?
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 11:52 PM
1

You're still stressing beauty, which is relative, whereas I focused on other traits. His existence and your description don't really do anything to reconcile that contrast
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 10:49 PM
1

That doesn't really show how you know it.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 10:46 PM
1

I'm confused where that 90 percent claim comes from. Whether or not an individual sees another as beautiful is not something that can actually be attributed to the object; beauty exists in the mind of the subject. You even allude to that when you talk about mental processes. How do you know beauty is 90 percent objective?
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 09:06 PM
1

But how do you know that such a man exists and is mostly perceived as attractive by the bulk of women?
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 09:04 PM

Beauty is relative. I'm not sure gauging the attractiveness of these women who are organically seduced through honesty can really give us any reliable information. I agree with your point that work adds to value, and valuable things require work (labour theory of value, y'all), but people get great things with little work all the time. Look at all the guys who got in on bitcoin because nobody really saw its value beforehand, only to end up hitting the lottery. Sometimes, value becomes most salie…

I have a second-person anecdote that works against your first criticism. There was recently an AskReddit thread about men successfully shooting their shot, and many were akin to just outright saying "I like you, would you care to come home with me?" In one case in particular that sticks out in my mind, a man realized he didn't know what else to talk about maybe 30 minutes it, finished his drink, and outright told her "I've run out of things to say, so I'm either going home alone or with you". Th…

Most older women are involved with men, not boys. J;Lo recently publicly stated she has an age requirement for men she dates, as she finds younger men unbearable. A longstanding criticism of capitalist systems is the way they have extended the duration of adolescence, producing "the manchild". How do you know that this made up man you speak of is out here making women fall in love with him?
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 06:56 PM

I'm hugely in favour. I'd jump on cycle right now if I could do it without risking fertility at my age, but even still, I use ephedrine, yohimbe, and ashwagandha almost religiously. I think your view of the negatives may be misplaced. Men have been using steroids and amphetamines (Nazi pilots and doctors are the common examples here) for ages. Society hasn't fallen apart. When the rest of the competition is adding these compounds to their regiment, it is imperative individuals follow suit if the…

This is actually a cool analogy. There are some weaknesses to it, but that third bullet point really strikes me as the strongest.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 04:18 PM
1

Are you referring to some kind of absolute value? If so, that doesn't exist. Value is subjective. Relative to a given cultural and ethnic mileau, that would be learned through interaction, although due to the subjectivity of it there are many different perspectives to account for, given it a dynamic, fluid value which would be constantly in-flux as situations and circumstances change So, you can't, really.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 04:17 PM
1

I think it can. Part of what Strauss, among others, stress in their work is that men need to present themselves as sexual beings in order to be perceived as such. This is part of why they emphasize Kino and breaking touch barriers early on in an interaction
/r/PurplePillDebate24/09/18 11:54 AM
2

I mean, that would depend on if he's banging girls or women. You're stressing the beauty of the females he sleeps with, irrespective of age, whereas I'm concerned with other developmentally significant traits, like independence, wisdom, self-actualization, etc.

This will have a lot of use-value
/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/18 11:19 PM

Attraction is literally the ability to draw things to one's self; it is the capacity to attract. If women are not being pulled in it suggests a lack thereof
/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/18 10:57 PM

Pragmatic. I see your point. That conceptualization definitely has use, but I think perceiving it as strength is more realistic and applicable to a greater number of people.

You just pointed out my central disagreement: she uses the term jerk when she disparages him. The function of the language indicates they are not identical, fam.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/18 09:58 PM
1

I think most any strength, aside from shit like k/d ratio, would apply. It has to confer a functional benefit within the context of a sexual/romantic relationship, thereby bolstering the relative strength of that very relationship
/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/18 09:42 PM
5

No they don't. When people decry how women want jerks or ballers the terms typically function to point out either how deceptive women are or how women pursue things which are actually detrimental to them, as opposed to taking a more practical, realist approach which would explain the function and benefit dating such men confers. The implication is different. Additionally, not all jerks have appeal. Strong men will always be marketable.

Theyre not identical, either.

Can't make generalizations about feminism like that. Some feminist writers make really strong arguments. Some make you scratch your head in confusion as to how they got their degree. The man-who-beats-his-wife tope is also a bit of a mischaracterization. Same sex couples actually appear to experience higher levels of domestic violence. To me, this suggests that benevolent sexism may actually reduce domestic violence. I've been griding this ax for awhile, but feminist scholars like Mackinnon, who…

I think your surprise may be misplaced, OP. A lot of what RP holds to be true was common sense yesteryear. Within many cultures, the ideas still permeate. Liberalism, the sexual revolution, urbanization, and the transition into a service-based economy have just taken such common sense views of the world out of the grand context of the West, limiting their applicability to the more rural and underdeveloped spaces
/r/PurplePillDebate15/09/18 11:39 AM
1

You're employing black and white thinking to an issue I've repeatedly tried to add more nuance to. I think women find aspects of these relationships enjoyable. If the entire relationship is horrible, with nothing there to provide even the most minuscule ounce of joy, then the narrative about women and tingles really rings true, and I'll give women more credit than that. Maybe that's my problem. Maybe women really are that dumb.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/09/18 02:11 PM
1

I'm not a player, nor do I crush a lot. Strikes 1 and 2. I don't find it realistic to believe there is a significant number of women who will put themselves through situations that are entirely unenjoyable just to maybe get a chance with a guy, but at the same time are too scared to take risks in labour and business markets.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/09/18 05:14 AM

It took you a long while to be helpful. You spent mad posts just avoiding qualifying your claim, only to eventually break down that you don't even disagree with what I was initially saying Glad we came to a better understanding though
/r/PurplePillDebate13/09/18 04:46 AM
1

There you go, now you qualified your claim. So it is not the entire relationship she does not enjoy, it's simply not having a verbal agreement of exclusivity, even though other aspects, even every other aspect, is enjoyable. This is far more agreeable than your implication that every part of such a relationship is unenjoyable.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/09/18 04:29 AM
1

I'm not making a claim about the number of women getting into one sided relationships. My claim is in critique of your claim that the ones who do, enjoy no aspects of it; an objection to the claim that women willingly choose to stay in relationships that are wholly and thoroughly without joy. I'm asking the question because to me, it would seem that she does like some aspect of the relationship. But you claim such a woman would not. So your view is at odds with what I would expect a reasonable w…

It's not a matter of English, fam. It's logic: strong claims require strong evidence. A claim along the lines of, "women, in general, do not like any part of one sided relationships where they pursue men who refuse to reciprocate commitment," is stronger than saying, "there are some women who dislike some aspects of such relationships". The first claim, being stronger in its conviction, requires stronger evidence. You acknowledge she enjoys the guy. That was my original claim. If she likes the g…

And you do? I'm not claiming to, but your claims are too strong to be persuasive. First, a relationship happens over weeks, months, and even years. To say the entire relationship is unenjoyable comes across way too absolutist, particularly because relationships are also multifaceted. Second, women vary in what they like and dislike. Even in RP's effectiveness, it is clear some women respond better to what the RP men are doing than others. This really makes it impossible for you to have any relia…

If sex is a biological concept, then gender is a social concept. It refers to the social and cultural differences a society assigns to people based on their (biological) sex. A related concept, gender roles, refers to a society’s expectations of people’s behavior and attitudes based on whether they are females or males. Understood in this way, gender, like race as discussed in Chapter 3 “Racial and Ethnic Inequality”, is a social construction. How we think and behave as females and males is not …

There isn't one, singular definition of gender. Don't lie just to sell a point, it's disingenuous. We don't even need to look beyond that wiki article you previously quoted to see gender also refers to grammatical structures. So no, that isn't THE definition of gender.

Sort of. Boys play with dolls, too. For years my favourite toy was a Blue Power Ranger figure. Your definition of gender is based on your own cultural interpretation btw. My first post posited that it is typically meant to refer to the cultural interpretation of sex. I'm not sure why you're trying to shoehorn some uncommon definition in here dozens of posts later

Female sexuality is created by societal AND biological factors. Hence, it cannot be described as CREATED by society. If this was true we would expect female sexuality to be more uniform cross-culturally. African women's sexuality differs from European women's sexuality, which differs from Latin American women's sexuality. You have to present me evidence that gender differences are ENTIRELY created by society to call gender a “social construct.” And you can’t because such evidence doesn’t exist. …

Gender isn't a matter of biology, it's a matter of social life, so repeatedly leaning on them for insight into the matter isn't exactly a good appeal to authority. If anything, at least pull from psychologists who work in the middle grounds between biological and social. Your argument is contingent on biology being part of gender, but gender was developed as a term specifically to refer to separate biological from social. It's unconvincing to say the least. Also, biology is partially influenced …

Keyword being may. In that same lazily quoted Wiki article, just a little lower, we see the following: Sexologist John Money introduced the terminological distinction between biological sex and gender as a role in 1955. Before his work, it was uncommon to use the word gender to refer to anything but grammatical categories. However, Money's meaning of the word did not become widespread until the 1970s, when feminist theory embraced the concept of a distinction between biological sex and the socia…

No need to be snippy just because your criticism does not really negate the validity of the gender claim. Gender = cultural interpretation of biological sex. Culture dictates how a community interprets things, like biological sex, and the meanings assigned to them. I told you it's tautological. You're arguing for sex rather than gender and you can't seem to split the concepts.

If they're learned, which they often are, there are elements of an animal culture there. Creatures raised in captivity and/or domestication exhibit varied behaviour compared to those in the wild. This would suggest to me that some element of culture is present, at least among some animals. How is the classification the result of hormonal differences? Would it not be the exhibition that is shaped by hormones? I.E. body hair, aggression, mating behaviour, and so on.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/08/18 04:06 AM

I'm not understanding how cultural interpretations of sex (how men and women ought to act, for example) are not manifestations of social convention in that view, then.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/08/18 03:56 AM

The fact that men have historically been the most active actors in every economy ever and math is typically attributed to testosterone, the realms of money and economics are influenced by hormones as hormones influence male actors. So then, how can it be purely social when biological factors influence behaviour, therefore influencing the creation and management of currency?
/r/PurplePillDebate08/08/18 03:45 AM
1

Culture shapes how we interpret sex, among other things. Using your logic, nothing is socially constructed since biology exists alongside everything we produce, communicate, interpret, and attach meaning to. Language, courtship rituals, rules of the road, economic systems... all outside the purvue of culture because testosterone affects behaviour? Accepting your position and taking it to its logical conclusion shows just how absurd it is.

Culture also influences behaviour and shapes how we interpret gestures, symbols, dress, etc. Even biological sex has social constructionist underpinnings in various cases. While rare, intersex people are often thrust in one direction or the other based on cultural interpretations of which gender they most resemble. Likewise, girls born with unusually large clitorises are often deemed to be male, but where the line is drawn between a large clitoris and a small penis is not objective. It's compara…

Her entire body of work? Where did you hear this? Of course hormones influence behaviour, but they also produce different effects for different people, which makes generalizations difficult. There are logs from steroid users all over the internet which document this. Transgender folks undergoing hormone therapy also describe shifts in their thinking and behaviour. These experiences often lack cohesion and uniformity, though.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/08/18 02:58 AM

Mead's work on tribes in Africa and S. America has shown there are counterexamples to those cases, despite this longstanding belief that testosterone always produces these patterns.

We're talking about within cultures. I don't think data exists to say "Well gender looks like this in China because of this specific hormone profile, whereas in Mexico it differs and takes this shape because of that hormone profile". Not only would such an argument require we have a generalizable hormone profile for these cultures, but it would also depend on some kind of evidence which could suggest how exactly various hormone levels impact cultural interpretations of sex. Gender norms governing courtship and romance create environments where men can exhibit their shallowness more as they do the approaching. Since women have relegated themselves to passive, approchee roles they do not have the same capacity to express their shallowness that approachers have. This is mostly based on the pool of available partners: women merely pick from those who approach them whereas men can theoretically pick from the entire population.

Hypergamy is a little self-conflicting if you go by some kind of natural selection argument since we see a kind of dysgenics (think idiocracy) play itself out in the modern age. The most intelligent, powerful men aren't having the most kids by the most women. We are actually seeing the opposite right now. In addition to that, there is also an issue with comparing male and female values as they are apples and oranges. According to match hypothesis and other economics-driven perspectives, people e…

Masculinity is how "maleness" is performed. It's the cultural interpretation of the male sex. It means what people see it to mean, whether it's an identity one wears, a group one belongs to, a lens through which they view the world, or whatever. Postmodernism aside, masculinity for myself entails a certain physicality that contrasts with femininity. I often see females who have never been in a physical altercation try to perform masculinity. This detracts from their performance of masculinity. O…

It's a bit excessive to control for pheromones but it is absolutely something that can have an effect. There is even data that suggests we can smell out similarities in the opposite sex and thusly choose partners with less similar genetics to promote heterozygosity. Liberal feminists tend to be rational choice theorists, though. The accusation against Aziz doesn't fit that framework very well as liberal feminism sees female freedom, to sell their bodies or possess autonomy and responsibility over their sexual choices, as central to feminism. Your argument is about marriage. Unmarried women are irrelevant. A man will often get more offers when married, whereas a woman will typically experience no change. It's been hinted at through quite a few studies that women lie more than men. However, their motivations and the kinds of lies they tell are different: women are much more likely to lie, but typically it is to spare someone's feelings. So, given that these mistruths exist, it's more reasonable, a la Occam's razor, to think that they're due to women not wanting to hurt men (size doesn't matter, women don't care about looks, etc) rather than women being succubists who want to separate you from you…

It's not outright proof, but there's a trend for short men, who are overlooked in the dating market, to marry later in life. What's noticeable in that is they are further along in their careers, and thusly have more resources to offer a potential partner. In settling down later, though, they also tend to marry much younger women than their taller peers. This shows at least one pathway that this pattern to manifests itself. 1 2 3

The best example of what I'm talking about is the election of Donald Trump. All the social influe…

My argument was that male behavior across culture and history tends to be convergent rather than divergent. This is obvious. But it's largely a product of globalisation, worldwide media, and the linear nature of time. Given the history of imperialism and colonialism, the influence of outside cultures, primarily Western ones, inevitable helped shape the concept of masculinity in other countries. The convergence there would be due to the role these institutions and ideologies had on the developmen…

I'm not sure if you're denying behaviourism. Assuming im understanding correctly, you seem to be implying that these influences are negligible. From where does free will come from then? If our behaviours are not mostly molded by our environments and influenced by social contexts then surely there is some source of free will you can point to and explain human behaviour, that is separate to the sources of socialization I've mentioned. So what is it?
/r/PurplePillDebate21/04/17 11:24 PM
5

Your argument is inapplicable. I don't need to do anything. We can see that in some cultures men kissing men is acceptable but in others it is not. In some cultures education is very male, in others it is female dominated. We can look at stances on homosexuality, different rites of passage, how monogamy is viewed, and more. There is a lot of discordance between cultures and time periods.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/04/17 11:21 PM

If one's values dictate behaviour, and those values are an amalgamation of external influences, then their behaviour is largely the expression of these influences. At no point is a man free from this influence. Consequently, there is no man that has not been told what to do or who to be.

At one point or another during a man's development, he has been told what to do and who to be. Our environments and communities are constantly imprinting values, beliefs, and behaviours on us. You will not find any human for whom this is inapplicable. The rare cases of children being raised by nonhuman animals are perfect examples of this: when left to be raised by wolves we become wolves. One could say that our most impressionable years are the ones prior to manhood, and that this trend is thus…

/r/PussyPass31/03/17 12:51 PM

Which is why cultures that inbreed are far stupider than cultures that don't. You would need to substantiate this. You likely won't be able to. Although the middle east seems backwards now, there was a time when they were leaders in Math and Science. This makes religious conservatism a better explanation than inbreeding.

You made a claim that seems false. In my search, I have turned up nothing implicating phallus length or girth. The literature addresses penile sensitivity, circumcision, hormonal health, and various neurotransmitters. The likelihood that your claim would be legitimate, but only discussed in one book you conveniently can't reference, is pretty slim. “That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.” "Wise men proportion their beliefs to the evidence" "How bout dah?"

That doesn't really answer the question fam. Short people also exist, but height preferences are also alive and well and nobody would question that. I'm not sure how traits not yet being selected out means they're not being selected for or that there is no pleasure gained from those selecting for them.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/17 08:44 PM
1

I wouldn't say that's the purpose. That's just what happens. Also, girth, which does not decrease the distance sperm has to travel, tends to be preferred over length
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/17 04:37 PM
3

The sperm wars are highly controversial and not entirely agreed upon as sufficient explanations. Giving women orgasms actually increases the likelihood of pregnancy. It causes contractions which in turn lead to the sperm being taking in deeper, better ensuring pregnancy. Science.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/17 12:08 PM
3

That doesn't answer the question sir. Science shows women have preferred larger phalluses which is why ours are so much bigger, relative to body size, than other animals. If it didn't pleasure women why would they prefer it?

Look at the part about people of colour having the lowest response rates I'm not familiar w her work enough to comment outside of that one piece. attractive non-white women aren't out complaining about the lack of attention they get in the streets Some are: "Women of colour get no love on Tinder". 2) women's enjoyment of sex has more to do with her partner's skill than how physically attractive he is. Depends on what you consider to be part of appearance. Does phallus size count? If it does then clearly there's a physical aspect to enjoyment, as others seem to be alluding to as well.

That sounds like a very flawed way to draw such an inference with that kind of certainty. Not that I'm disagreeing, as I think the blue/red split here is pretty reflective of the ideological differences we see between conservatives and liberals in other spheres, but we're really just guessing.

Good read. One thing seems wrong, though: We humans have just 4-8 basic emotions, depending on which study you read: joy, trust, fear, surprise, sadness, disgust, anger and anticipation. Even if there are some people who don't find the size of their partner's sex characteristics to be important natural selection shows they're wrong. Solipsism is a very specific philosophy that states nothing actually exists outside of the Mind. That is way off from what is being discussed here. Sex is validating. I think men find it intimidating more so than gross. The ease with which women can find willing sexual partners has been discussed ad nauseum here. Given the glaring disparity in sexual history between many men and many women, particularly if you hold to the view that the top 20% of men run through the top 50% of women, then it follows that at least some men would have their lack of partners and the validation therein juxtaposed against their seemingly more desirable partner's immense experience…

A world full of selfish, entitled people. A world full of men who would rather watch porn, drink beer, and play video games than become fathers How is that selfish? Some people won't make good parents. I am one. If anything it's far more considerate than carelessly bringing a life into this world because you're too stupid to use contraceptives

It's hard to abandon that role of masculinity when you've worn it for your whole life. Men affected by it perpetuate the problem by continuing to ignore and suppress what's wrong, and a lot of women see it as unbecoming if a man does act out in a way that conflicts with that role, which just gives them more reason to continue the cycle. People do care though. Lots of them. Just reading this thread shows that there are quite a few people who are knowledgeable about this stuff. Academics have been…

I think your answer lies in your first paragraph. I just don't get it. There are countless ways in which sexism affects men negatively. For instance, if a man acts "unmanly", and shows his emotions, he's often shunned and ridiculed. Why do we accept this and participate in it ? Why do we tell men to stop complaining? You have already seen that the status quo pressures men into suppressing their emotions, and that any male who fails to do this is "unmanly". In that same status quo there is an exp…

These are relative concepts though. They are meaningless without a social context to express them, as can be observed through the gendered binary presented. I never said women lose all value at thirty. This was never explicitly stated in anything I posted. A woman's value will decrease as she ages, while a man's increases as he amasses more capital. The average man becomes wealthier with age naturally which increases his options. You're only thirty, that's not even when people hit their career peaks. It will change more dramatically after you pass your half life and beyond.

How is it difficult to make the argument that men prefer younger women, and consequently will favor younger partners, when there is evidence of this everywhere? The most clear example of this is in Hollywood where young women frequently play love interest to some geezer. One article examining the 'cougar' phenomenon notes that in their sample only 13% of women had relations with a man 5 years their junior. In the same article it's noted that the adverse trend is by and large the norm, particular…

Any nastiness perceived is your own interpretation as I said nothing offensive. The fact that the number of men married to women significantly younger almost doubles upon remarriage says a lot. I don't even agree with these generalizations, but you could probably make a case to reject AMALT and accept AWALT based on the general statistical differences we see between the sexes. Women tend to be far less deviant, in the sociological / statistical sense, than men, whereas men are far more varied and harder to generalize. This manifests as men being much more likely to be mentally retarded, but also much more likely to be in the top 1% intelligence wise. We're more likely to be criminals, …

Right, and that's their usefulness. But men are also useful for that. Not only this but men provide resources necessary to raise children to adulthood. They have also historically been "protectors". So if men have all these uses women cannot replace, but men can replace women as nurturers as you say, I really don't see how you can make these arguments while still holding that men are not ultimately more valuable. It looks contradictory.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/08/16 02:37 AM

I'm not sure how value can be derived from anything other than usefulness / utility
/r/PurplePillDebate10/08/16 02:26 AM

Right, but men are also required to make humans. However, you allege they are also better at everything else, so how exactly aren't female contributions dwarfed by male ones in your argument?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/08/16 02:12 AM
2

But if they're not as useful for every other task then why are they equally valuable? Because they make humans? You need men for that too.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/08/16 01:42 AM
1

So how does that make them more valuable?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/08/16 01:37 AM
2

That's specious reasoning. If something is "better" relative to another thing it has been elevated above it. It is implicit in the statement "men are better" that the speaker values men more than women. If men were not more valuable than women why would they be better than women?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/08/16 12:43 AM

Depends on what you mean by easy mode. There are different expectations for men and women with a lot of cultural variation. What someone finds easy will be different for someone else, and the gender role someone prefers in one country may be the opposite in another. In the west it would seem women are not expected to earn or create the same way men are but at the same time they're stuck with these limitations on their freedom to do so, which would be a huge burden.

Women already outnumber men and given our lower life expectancy the trend will only get worse for women. Combine that with the fact that men are incarcerated at far higher rates, suffer from debilitating mental disability and illness at higher rates, and join the military at higher rates women really are in the losing end of the numbers game in more ways than men.
