8. It became a 'trend' when I was 12. Luckily it was surprisingly rare with guys my own age, just random gross adults.

Do I like this guy enough that I'd date him irregardless of his financial status? Does he care how I spend my money, so long as I'm not barreling headfirst into needless debt? Is he frugal or is he stingy? That is to say: would he say no to buying a very expensive car? That's fine. Would he say no to calling for an ambulance after we got rear ended by a bus because he doesn't believe in spending money on medical bills? That's not fine.

Personally, no. Some women I know, yes. Virgins were often sought after (there were some interesting discussions that came from that); I knew a couple of guys who often were interested in the other direction (seeking more 'experienced' women) as well. I have met men who had distaste for women who had higher body counts, but 'high' is relative.

I don't have a preference; I'd be more concerned with whether he has kids and what role would a prospective partner be expected to play with them. I used to work weddings though, enough that I have zero desire to ever have a 'big day', so I suspect that plays into that.

Then steps should be taken to see a) what the issue is and b) how to rectify them.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/20 05:06 PM

At that juncture, they should have enough wordly knowledge to understand at least the basics of how relationships work and how to enter one. There are obvious exceptions, such as extreme cases of atypical neurology (real cases, not internet armchair self-diagnosis), extreme background issues or physical impairment that make dating harder, but assuming we're talking about the everyday Westerner, I don't think it's unreasonable that the average person would understand how dating works.

As in couldn't get any relationship, ever? If someone legitimately wanted one and hadn't been able to date at least once by their, say, mid-twenties (to give room for legitimate late bloomers), I'd worry for them. This is assuming a person lives outside of a hyper-conservative lifestyle.

I believe it's both, and to what degree one influences a person is going to vary from person to person. Personally, I think the type of media we consume as youngsters (and how much we do intake) plays a disproportionate part in what we find attractive.

Heavens no. I'm bad at relationships and that would just be twice the terrible.

Completely anecdotal, but IME (both personal and from talking to my fellow ladies), we tend to focus more on individual body parts or regions for most guys. It's not that men's bodies are ugly or bad, or that there's a lack of appreciation, it just tends to be... kinda specific.

Yes, and I stay away from them, same I stay away from male homewreckers. Once or twice I've tried to talk those who are less actively malicious, and more mentally unstable, out of that sort of behaviour, but I'm not a shrink.

I think the concept of looks don't matter is a pretty irrational statement, although I think /u/SaBahRub is correct (personally speaking) that looks aren't everything is probably a more accurate statement. I do think a better way to word it is 'presentation matters', and to be honest about the fact that some people have a leg up in that matter. It's no different from any other aspect of life; some people have advantages due to class, economics, gender, looks, etc. However, presentation (grooming…

I think concepts like TRP (amoung others) are very enticing because it offers a formula, which can be comforting when things don't work the way you were taught. Any sort of group ostensibly offers fellowship, which can also shore up bruised emotions or fulfill a desire for belonging. This isn't unique to TRP; I rather thing that FDS works along the same lines.

The one upside to kids trying to make that sort of joke is definitely the chance to put them down, lol.

Incoming wall of text: I have a lot of feelings about this lol. IME, as a woman who's been gaming for 30+ years now- we're out there, but while I'm not going to say it's 'hard' to be a woman gamer (it used to be a lot worse tbh), it can be really annoying to deal with 18 year old tryhards making stupid sandwich jokes. They're still making them and it wasn't funny when they started, lol. I used to do a lot of multiplayer matching on XBOX Live years ago, but dealing with kids gets old, fast. I kno…

I think that as a general rule, women are taught to be subtle and to coded (and we communicate with each other in that manner) and men are taught to be forthright and blunt sounding, even when they're not being honest (think a guy in pain who just says he feels fine). That's basically down to parenting. My parents tend to be more blunt (dad as respectfully as possible, mom is basically a bull in a china shop). When I started school there was a fairly heavy emphasis by some teachers to be 'nicer'…

No, but I believe the majority of that is just down to the fact that I don't really try for it either. I'm a woman staring 40 in the face. I don't think relationships/sex are bad, they can be quite wonderful, they're just not something I care about enough to put energy into. Most of my single/divorced friends are the same, with the exception (for whatever reason), the gay/bi friends I have. They're both romantics who want LTR/marriage. I'm open to the idea of meeting someone, I'm just not active…

I doubt anyone is the perfect candidate, gender nonwithstanding. As for Jorgensen herself, as a libertarian she espouses both the very attractive (for both sides), and the very repulsive (again for both sides). For people on the left end of the spectrum, she has appeal as she supports decriminalization of drug laws, demilitarization of the police, and opposes qualified immunity. But she also believes in deregulating the market- which folks on the left would not want. On the right, she's supporti…

Hmm, I don't see anything about something related to colour anywhere in my listing, or anything that remotely correlates to it. It could be that there's a reason behind these decisions, that only applies to one person in particular, largely revolving around past experiences that you're definitely not interested in hearing about, but make more sense within context. Strange, innit!

Well, yeah. It's not the evil wimminz manifesto, meant to be stamped across all humans. It's the list of things that one particular individual has decided works (or rather, in this case doesn't) for them. That's why there's that whole 'for me personally' part at the start of the sentence. Crazy indeed!

It's entirely a personal thing. I don't mind movie enthusiasts who just love watching movies, but when it turns into an hour long lecture about how I just don't appreciate the power and the glory of Little-Known Director Of Your Choice, imma check out. I don't watch a lot of movies, at home or in theatres (I've gone over a decade without stepping foot in a theatre), and when I do, I tend to enjoy Marvel movies and/or films with a lot of gratuitous explosions. Which makes me a cultural philistine…

I'm sure there are women who want a guy who's devoted to them 24/7. I'm not one of them, and it would drive me up the wall, but there's all sorts of people. Having a hobby means several things. they're able to invest in things (emotionally in most cases) they're able to keep themselves entertained they can keep themselves occupied they are interested in things that expand their knowledge- even if it's not necessarily knowledge that 'rewards' them somehow For me personally, there's a couple of ho…

Barely; I did when I was younger, but my parents decided to only speak English in our household so I 'lost' it as I got older. I'm not first generational myself, as my dad's family has been American for a while now.

I don't 'feel it' because I'm pretty firm about being childfree, but I do have people trying to apply it a lot, yes. It's largely my mother and aunt, but I'll get it from strangers and acquaintances too. For my mom/aunt, they basically view marrying and having children as the last rite of passage into adulthood. I think they view my objection to having kids as a stubborn rejection of getting older. It doesn't help that I'm into nerd stuff like comics and video games, which is a kid thing to them…

A slut is just someone who has a lot of non-committed sexual partners whether in back to back short-term relationships or outside of relationships. I don't view it personally as a pejorative, but I know a lot of other people do. That's pretty much it. It's such a meaningless word these days as anyways. It gets lobbed so often.

It's a multi-dimensional thing. (for clarity, single + unmarried woman in no hurry to change that) For the state, it's proof that this is My Person and I trust him to make certain decisions on my behalf, to care for me if I'm incapacitated, and someone I make joint financial decisions with. With the hypothetical guy, it's a declaration that I will have no others and that we are partners in this ongoing shitshow called life. It means that I trust who they are implicitly, and will be the person th…

I don't think I'd care too much; I wear makeup and have a pretty rigorous skincare routine. I'm half-Korean though, and plenty of dudes there get plastic surgery so that might colour my outlook on things. I'd certainly wonder why the hell he'd be dating me, but eh.

I think a couple should do what's best for them. In some relationships, I don't doubt it spells doom, in other relationships it probably enhances the marriage. I did have a relationship like this; I slept in my then bf's room more often than not, but I get really bad restless leg syndrome and I already move a lot in my sleep, so if I felt it coming on I'd go to my room so I didn't kick the shit out of him in my sleep.

Too many? Not enough? Why worry about what someone posts on social media? Everyone's got their thing. I don't care about fine dining because I want to eat in peace and I think getting dressed up for the occasion is annoying, and for a first date it looks peacock-y, which isn't something I find attractive. There's plenty of people out there who're like that too.

IIRC (and this is off the top of my head, so I could be wrong) but women tend to worry more about traumatizing the people who find their body, so they tend to use less violent methods.

The whole thing looks oversimplified tbh, and presupposes far too much. I'm closer to type a in terms of overall sexual history, but not because I'm all afeared of the evil menz (/s if necessary) or frigid, and I support a safe, sane, and informed consensual sex life between adults in whatever form it takes. I'm generally sexually invisible to men who can attract a revolving conga line of women- that doesn't mean the women who can ride them are my enemy or somehow pitted against me. You can't ta…

Yes. One women, one man. Oddly enough, the guy has managed to get gfs before but decided to fixate on a woman who was not interested (and never showed interest). It didn't end well for him. He was/is a super skinny nerd with less than stellar hygiene, but outside of that one woman he was actually a really pleasant dude, decent social awareness and not creepy, just... well, nerdy. It's not generational so much as it's the social climate of that particular group. I've never had a friend group of prudes, and there was usually a mix of low and high body count folks (of all genders). Generally as long as there was no cheating involved (cheating got you shunned), you might get a high five and a request for a war story, but it wouldn't really be clout and no one would look up to you for it.

I find I'm attracted to men who have intellectual strengths in areas I don't and are eager to share their knowledge (and interested in what I excel at). I'm talking engineers, some hard sciences, etc. Unfortunately that population seems to have an overgrowth of either 'has no filters or unwarranted self-importance. Pretty much the same as my definition of redpill; a group for those who find dating/relationships/life easier if they have a list on How Things Should Work and the ability to go on rails. A social viewpoint via Powerpoint slides, basically.

This is really hard to measure because there's actually a lot more that goes into it besides just who does what household chores. Living in a townhouse with a yard the size of a postage stamp is vastly different from living in a single family home with a really large yard in terms of time management (as someone whose family moved from a tiny cement apartment steadily upward to eventually a house with a huge yard). You have to factor in things like the amount of kids (which then spills over into …

do you sometimes resent the fact that you're straight I mean.... no. Although I tend to view my sexuality as being 'technically straight but largely apathetic'. Not that I'm asexual or dislike sex, just that it's not really important to my general well-being. Most simplistic personality quizzes or presumptions are going to fail because while most people are probably not complicated, that doesn't mean they can't be somewhat complex. People aren't numbers, boxes, statistics, etc when you take the whole person into account. A person can fail miserably in one arena, and soar to great heights in others. I've taken the Myers-Briggs (for a lark) multiple times for well over a decade, and I've always gotten the same result. My dad's done the same and he gets…

It's not a gender specific trait. Men can cut people off- it can be for selfish reasons, but it can also be for damn good reasons too. My best friend cut his father off after a lifetime of lies, failed promises, emotional abuse, and more. I've ghosted a couple of exes, but only once was it right after a breakup, and it was because he kept lying. About everything. Lying about shit I didn't even ask about. I can't speak for anyone else, nor do I believe in some three month rule, but just because I'm interested in a guy doesn't mean I'm 100% comfortable with having sex right off the bat. I need some time to make sure that it's something I want, with that particular man.

It really depends on the situation. I've snitched on cheaters. My last boyfriend cheated on me, and it came out when he broke up with me. With my brother, his ex had spilled her guts out of guilt. Some people are truly terrible at hiding things and it gets real obvious, real fast. Some people just aren't as smart as they'd like to think they are and they get sloppy. And in some cases, it's sheer dumb luck that they get exposed.

Fair point, but it seems like they're more likely to make a positive comment on the item and not the person. Like the difference would be 'nice shirt' versus 'that shirt looks great on you!', if that makes sense.

I think because most men don't or won't compliment other men on their appearences, it happens so infrequently compared to women that it can be a bit of a shock and can make a guy unsure of how to respond. Which is a shame, really. Women are much more comfortable with verbally boosting one another in terms of appearence. I'm extremely plain but my friends have always added compliments about my appearence, ranging from 'Your eyes/hair/whatever is so pretty' to straight up 'if I were into women I'd…

Probably not, I developed my own special blend of introversion well before puberty lol. As it is, my job has very little face to face contact until last week so I was lucky that my looks meant just about nothing to begin with. Good looking people do have it easier with a lot of social stuff, but growing up with a knockout for a mom and a brother made me see a lot of the ugliness that comes with it, so no thanks.

Yes, but I think it's even more critical to look at a person's financial outlook. If you make 90k a year, and this woman wants to live a high roller life (think one that someone at 125k could comfortably sustain while still being able to maintain savings), then she should be prepared to get a job that is, at minimum, 50k a year before taxes? Since you'll need to save for two? On the other hand, if you're both inclined to a more traditional lifestyle with a SAHM, but the woman is very crafty/DIY,…

I goof off with my dad, brothers and sister all the time, as well as a couple of close family friends. Not quite to the level you describe (my brother and dad's gas is, as far as I'm concerned, in violation of the Geneva convention) but we horse around, make dumb jokes, or watch terrible movies just to pick them apart. That being said, I'm close with my siblings and my dad and those specific friends, and I'd need to have absolute trust in them to do so. FWIW, I'm several years older than you.

I think this is largely a myth. Ive never straight up asked a guy out or propositioned them (not for any gender related reasons, im just awkward and easily embarrassed), but when I've scraped up the courage to let a guy know I'm interested, even if they weren't interested back they at least pretended to be flattered by the interest. I imagine for most people it's less about others being interested in them and more about how the interest is shown. Edited because I can't spell for shit today

The only thing that has ever made me uncomfortable is when a boyfriend's former partner enjoyed x activity that I had little interest in and they tried to hammer me into submission with it. I don't really have an opinion on former sexual partners providing a) it was all safe, sane and informed consent and b) they're willing to do an STD test, but I really don't like being pressured to do something I'm not interested. Most people I know like a little mutual possiveness. The problems tend to arise when it turns into actually treating the person like property. There's this giant space between saying 'That's my lady/That's my man' and 'You are here for my personal disposal and entertainment'. I mean if it's someone's kink, go nuts, just don't go overboard with it.

Fair point, but I did mean chubby, not fat. Although 'slightly rounded' or a little curvy might be a better, if nebulous, term. Very skinny/scrawny might not bode well for breeding.

Being chubby meant that you had access to resources. Like meat- you hear about the stacks of pure mammalian carnage that dukes and kings had on spread during banquets. Poor folks did not have nearly as much access. Beauty standards, in general, tend to be pretty varied and oftentimes irrational.

I think it definitely can, but it's not necessarily a given. So long as it's understood to be exactly what is it- a cheap thrill and a fantasy- I don't find the concept inherently bad or distasteful. Obviously I don't think the kidlets should be watching and there are some forms of porn I think are way too disturbing, but as long as all parties gave safe, sane and informed consent and the person watching isn't an idiot or emotionally unwell, I don't see the issue. I think initially in the beginning it's kind of normal. It's exciting and new, which makes it interesting. Once the newness levels out, I find friend groups diminish in size but tend to have a core intact, assuming the relationship is healthy. When it's not, it shrinks a lot more or one partner subsumes the other's friends group or limits it severely and badly.

it's tradition, aka peer pressure from dead people. Personally, I feel like no one should be slinging blades around someone's genitalia (or really, any part of them) without fully informed consent, but people will fight like hell about it. As far as I can tell, for men it was 'I want my son to look like me and for women, it was because they weren't familiar with what a uncut dick looks like.

if a woman won’t put effort and equal amounts of time and money into the dating process she is won’t do any different into the relationship. If you'd stopped at effort, or traded time and money for resources, I would agree. I also think this holds true for a lot of people. Different relationships (and different people) require different things, but those things can be broken down, I think, into resources (something finite that you can contribute into a relationship). I think the purpose of only fans is basically just a semi-curated camgirl site. It basically adds a veneer of legitimacy. To the best of my knowledge, there's no trading for actual physical contact (at least not above board) due to normal prostitution laws. for the women reading this thread, what are your thoughts on having a relationship with a partner on OnlyFans. Some people are shitheads, and then they get gripped tight by a hurricane of hormones and they go full douchebag, and they're enabled by their 'friends'. Girls tends to be a lot cattier and more verbal, no doubt, but I recall some seriously fucked up shit being done by both sexes in high school. Worst one I heard about (my brother saw it happen) was a bunch of steaming piles of go…

My type is within a couple inches of me (either direction, so we're talking 5'5"/6" to 5'10"/11"), not too muscley, not too skinny (both body types are uncomfortable to lay on when I'm wallowing in my pity-me pool lol). I guess just average? I'm assuming about the muscled dudes because I've never dated one, it's just a lingering observation from when I used to go to metal shows and occasionally ended up bouncing off of a ripped dude in the pit. Alternative style dudes are more likely to do it fo…

TBH, I do agree. There's a lot of scenarios where it would be a bad idea to go beyond generalities, and there's a lot of scenarios where going into specifics would be a bad idea. Not just for dating, but for life in general.

I covered this under cons: The cons: first, this requires either both parents to be available for testing (which gets tricky in the case of sperm/egg donors or if the biological father is MIA for whatever reason), which isn't always the case, for a multitude of reasons, or for a widespread genetic database, which poses a lot of privacy issues.

I mentioned this in a different thread, but there's a smarter way to go about this (rather than 'lol these hoes ain't loyal', because crowing about it in that manner is a surefire way to piss enough people off that it doesn't happen): you frame it as genetic testing. The pros: whatever happens, the baby benefits. Full stop. You're testing for hereditary issues and parenthood is secondary. This allows for insight into issues the child may have in the future. This prevents men from caring for ille…

I think anyone can be predatory, and I think there's three different things that have to be looked at if you're trying to see if a relationship is predatory: the age of both parties involved the age difference of both parties involved the power and/or maturity difference of both involved In the case of Spiegel and Kerr, there's a seven year difference, but they were both well into adulthood and they're both independently wealthy. Because they're not in the same industry and one isn't an authorit…

It's not terrible. If I were friends with you, I'd tell you to be cautious and take your time because 22 year olds aren't really known for their maturity (not saying they're all gibbering buffoons at all, but a lot have fairly limited real world experience) and if I were friends with your girlfriend, I'd tell her to be cautious and take her time because she still most likely has a few years of personal growth to go through and you're very likely in a different stage of life. Yes I've been cheated on, and I'm a woman. I would imagine that there will always be less people who are cheaters than there will be less people who have been cheated on, and that's due to some (maybe a lot, within that specific population) people simply being serial cheaters. For me, the only difference with how I 'view' men is that I'm no longer comfortable with people who are serial flirts or who are showboats constantly trying to get attention from everyone. Outside of the common sense 'don't be abusive or an asshole' type stuff, I'd wager 'laid back, but responsibly so' would best fit the bill. You really can't, because breakups and people vary. It would require a massive social overhaul. In this case, you just need to rip the bandage off and get it over with. This guy sounds like two separate guys I dated in high school (please, teens, don't date just because your friends tell you that you should, learn from my mistakes!); they're really sad for like, a week, and then they find someone else to fawn over. They're in love with the idea of love. It's not a fault thing at all.

I think both women and men are capable of 'developing baby fever, but women are a) 'allowed' to be more verbal about it and b) have a limited fertility window. Purely anecdotally, I haven't noticed a gap between men and women in general over having kids. What I have noticed is that men tend to vocalize earlier that they want to have kids definitively, while women are more likely to be ambivalent or want to wait til they're a little older. Specific to the cologne/perfume angle, choose something with low throw (essentially something that's best smelled up close) and go with something that works with your body chemistry. People are generally at least a little wiser and more mature- and yes, that comes with higher standards- when they get older. It's pretty simple: Open to dating younger (but I'm assuming legal) people is not the same as only looking to date younger people. I think women are certainly capable of giving bad advice, but I don't think it's a uniquely female trait. I think in this arena, people often give advice that only relates to them; essentially, they give dating advice that's really only catered to what they, personally, find attractive or what's worked for them in the past. That often is not helpful since people vary wildly, even within homogeneous groups, and what one person finds attractive another might find repulsive.

It can; while I definitely have a sex drive, being with men who didn't particularly care if I derived any pleasure from sex kind of killed my appetite for wanting a relationship of any kind. I'd argue that sex can be, but I think that the idea that sex was meant to be an emotional act between joined partners is overstating it. This discussion has come up before. Personally, in a perfect world where we don't have the worry about federal corruption and misuse of genetic data, we should have mandatory genetic tests at birth to catch potentially deadly or life-altering diseases early, and parents should have the option to (privately) request lineage as well. That being said, this also works both ways; if a dude's the dad and he decides to walk, he should still be held liable for child support payments and yes, pay them.

I don't like extreme height differences. I'm 5'8", and from my dating life I've dated dudes from 5'5"-5'6"-ish to about 6'2". If I have to strain in either direction to get a kiss, I don't find it attractive.

I mean yeah, no shit. Treating short dudes as less than is pretty reprehensible, and honestly pretty stupid to boot. No one likes to be treated like less than, especially in an age where height isn't nearly as important as it used to be. But, I do want to note that short women deal with a specific brand of shit too, it just doesn't directly deal with their love lives necessarily. They tend to be viewed as 'childish' and have issues asserting their authority (if they have legitimate authority) an…

That’s the logical conclusion from what you wrote. Really not dude, and I'm not sure why you're so hard pressed to prove this one thing to the point that you're trying to conflate 'You can be happy without a relationship' with 'You need to be single' when 'can' and 'need' are definitely not synonyms, but whatever floats your boat
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/20 11:15 AM

No, because you're trying to compare the ability to find happiness regardless of your relationship status to forcibly breaking up people because of... reasons? So, if the people who can’t get relationships can’t complain This was literally never said, lmao. C'mon dude.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/20 12:01 PM

You wouldn’t feel that way if you could be happy without a relationship, you’d just be happy without one, the end. My dude... this isn't an either or situation, and there's no reason to turn it into one. It's not binary. You can be happy in a relationship, you can be happy without being in a relationship. I don't know what world you live in where being in a relationship is literally the only thing that can bring a person happiness, but plenty of people are able to live happy, functional lives wi…

Why bother getting into a relationship at all? Because you like them? Because you find them attractive? Because you like being around them and they give you warm fuzzies? Plenty of reasons why it's okay to be in a relationship. If some people should settle for non-relationship happiness, then everyone should, including people in relationships. Their relationships should be ended for them, for their own good. You can see how messed up it would be to tell your friend to divorce their spouse. That'…

Maybe so, but- for a lot of people, it helps reinforce their own self-image. Not everyone in life is interested in being a flaming dbag (not pointing the finger at you, just saying in general). They wanted to know that they weren't terrible human beings and I was happy to help them know.

Dude... eat a snickers lol. I don't put anything on the dude- it's not like my guy friends came, collapsing at my feet, begging for my help. They ask simple questions, and I give simple answers. 'I'd interested in dating, but I'm insecure about X, Y, Z' is about as complicated as it gets. Giving a generally intelligent human being a general idea and letting them take ownership of how they want to change usually yields good dividends for these guys. I don't know what sort of men you hang around w…

I'm... not quite following your logic train. I didn't say that you can't be happy in a relationship- only that it's not necessary to be in a relationship to be happy. Plenty of things can make you happy. I'm happy when I get a raise at work. I'm also happy to see my niece and nephew. They're utterly unconnected, but they're also things that bring me happiness. A person should be happy regardless of their marital or dating status.

Yeah, it's not in the original comment because it depends from person to person. I can't give good advice to a hypothetical because it's impossible to say what the issue is. The advice I'd give to someone who dresses like crap isn't the same as the advice I'd give to a guy who's insecure about his height. Average and below average are useless terms for advice because any advice I'd give is tailored to the person. If they came back to me and ask for clarification, this isn't difficult. They don't…

Honestly most of the time it was just insecurity on their end. I addressed this in a separate comment, but no, it wasn't bluepilling. It was fallout from being told they weren't 'good' enough by shitty parents. It's pretty basic what I said: you have a good foundation, do some self-reflection and see what you think it needs to be improved, and improve on that, for yourself, because ultimately you (editorially) need to be happy with yourself, because a relationship won't save you. If you wanted t…

I literally wrote, in the same comment: If you think you're lacking, figure out what it is and try to repair it- for yourself. Happiness is multi-dimensional and first and foremost, I want them to love themselves. I'm not going to write a laundry list of what that might be; I'm assuming most people here are self-aware enough to understand that what they might be lacking varies greatly from person to person and I don't have the time or interest in writing out every individual case that I've talke…

A good person (in my definition) is someone who doesn't go out of their way to actively injure others, is generally polite, is more or less able (as an adult) to handle their own shit without making someone else responsible for all of their issues, is a team player (in every sense). In this case, a lot of my guy friends were worried that they were 'bad' and didn't 'deserve' (or weren't worth) a relationship. Same thing I told my dude friends, who weren't assbags, just not great at the whole social thing: you're a good person, you have a lot to offer, and most importantly, you don't need to find someone to make yourself happy. A relationship should be the cherry on an awesome cake, not the whole cake in and of itself. If you think you're lacking, figure out what it is and try to repair it- for yourself. From a general perspective (aka sex that does not personally involve me), my belief is that as long as it's safe, sane, and with informed consent, I don't care what other people do. I think different people view sex differently and it's a fool's errand to try to assume on anyone else's behalf. From a more personal perspective, I enjoy the idea of sex with a partner I care deeply about and that's what I want. Yep. Have been that woman. It doesn't taint my view on guys (I'm a very much a case-by-case basis sort of person), but it did put me off dating. It wasn't the outearning or being the breadwinner that bothered me, it was that I made shitty decisions in dating lazy people.

I just sense that some dudes lash out because it's the only way they can protect themselves. In some cases I feel bad from them, cos they obviously got hurt pretty badly, and in other cases I just don't take it very seriously. My thoughts on men haven't changed. People should be taken on a case by case basis, and understanding basic social standards doesn't mean the average person conforms to every aspect of those standards. Basically that on certain decisions, either both agree (two yes) or it doesn't happen (one no). It's dangerous to apply to every single aspect of your relationship because it becomes micro management- you shouldn't need your spouse's permission to buy a random pair of shoes or a video game- but I think sex is important enough that no partner should be trying to browbeat the other into something they're not interested or comfortable with doing. How (or whether) do you expect him to take responsibility for relationships? I expect both of us to put in 100% into the relationship when we can (there's always going to be times where one partner is going to have to pick up the load, but that should be shared responsibility and not assumed by only one partner). If you're comfortable with discussing it, what about sexual roles? I believe in the two yes one no rule for this sort of thing; I doubt there would be any 'roles', and both partners agr…

Relationships can fail for any number of reasons. Some are really dramatic: abuse, infidelity, just one or both parties being total fuckwads. Not gender specific, asshole is a universal personality type. Some fail due to incompatibilities of certain, specific concrete aspects: wanting/not wanting kids, wanting to travel/not wanting to travel, different outlooks on retiring or life goals. That's basically it; wealth is being generated but the circulation remains insanely top heavy. For people who actually want to do the traditional nuclear family, it's becoming increasingly expensive just for the day to day fundamentals (i.e. cutting out frills like huge weddings, annual family vacations, etc). This has all sorts of bad effects for people lower on the pole, as it were; decreased education, lowered living standards, etc. ETA to switch by to but

I view it as 'meh'. I'm personally happy that I'm able to get a job I enjoy and live a quiet life mostly alone. Whatever maternal feelings I may have ever possessed were burnt out of me before I hit 18 and marriage was never something I prioritised. I do feel bad for those who would like to go the traditional route but are getting priced out due to pay raises not keeping up with overall inflation, but that's a problem that can't be easily solved with a wish or a two sentence economic proposal.

I think you're presuming that in this scenario, I'm not already pretty familiar with the guy in question. I don't date people I'm not already at least somewhat familiar with, and I don't get to know guys because I'm interested in finding someone. I learned from personal experience that dating unknown quantities doesn't work for me. Generally it's relief. If it's been someone I care about platonically, I hoped they'd understood where I was coming from and hoped we could still be friends. If it's someone I didn't care about, it was with hope that they'd leave me alone. That being said, I'm a wee bit emotionally blunted and I've never done the whole 'being just out of arm's reach' thing with men. If there's mutual interest, I'm down. Which sex needs to understand this better? Everyone. Communication failures happen to all manner of relationships, not just romantic ones and it's not one specific gender's 'fault'. We (human society) absolutely suck at teaching one another to effectively communicate. Why would it make things better? Because it lays things out on the table instead of bottling it up/being too vague/lashing out/trying to people please whilst communicating (which usually ends in failure) Bonus: If you believe it’s …

Who is going to quantify what is, and isn't, an acceptable reason for a judgement free divorce though? Physical infidelity and physical abuse are a little easier to quantify because they have real-time ways of figuring it out, but then there are issues like emotional or financial abuse, sex used as a weapon, emotional infidelity, etc. Someone would have to decide what constitutes the point of no return for things that don't necessarily have an immediate, obvious impact, which means cases drag on…

I think there's enough people who do want it that we're not in danger of dying out. We're just now living in a time where it's more acceptable to say 'thanks but no thanks'. It's not a bad thing to change your mind later on as long as you don't blame other people for it. Some of us, like myself, only got stronger in our desire to not have families as we got older. What exactly is being moderate? Can somebody elaborate? I think there's two separate points to be made here. First, very few people can tolerate utter stoics and sloppy emotions for extended periods of time, in my experience. It would depend mostly on how it's presented. If you're smart, you sandwich it in as 'genetic testing' so that if the child has issues later, you'll already know if the parents are a good match. This also involves the mother being tested, and has a net benefit outside of potential paternity issues. It's a lot harder to argue with. Not at all. When one partner is expected to become the sole household manager, attraction can drop. This is not some super special woman thing; I've seen guys get incredibly fed up when their girlfriends suddenly become walking, talking learned helplessness. I highly doubt many dudes want to feel like their girlfriend's/wives/whatever dads.

Basically any situation where one partner is picking up the lion's share of household management and chores. As a personal example, in my last serious relationship, my then boyfriend suddenly needed the entire night after work to decompress, which largely revolved around playing a video game online (usually Rock Band/Guitar Hero). Decompression is fine, but he was basically unable to: take the laundry downstairs, put laundry in washer/dryer, empty washer dryer, bring laundry upstairs and fold it…

From what I understand, in the majority (not vast, simple majority) cases, the woman started feeling like the mom in the relationship, and that will kill attraction faster than anything. I know it's personally true for me, which is why I don't really bother with dating anymore and have no interest in getting married. I don't mind sharing the emotional load, but I have 0% interest in being in a relationship where I feel like I'm a housekeeper who has sex with the dude who hired her. No thanks.

I think we have a strong social perception that engaging in behaviours that are supposed to be, or socially perceived as, nice will benefit men in pursuing women. I do think it's largely horseshit as attraction takes place on multiple levels and what constitutes nice to one person isn't going to seem nice to others. Women have our own version (be hot, but not too hot, be available, but not too available, etc) as well, and you see it a lot in the media. It's fairly ridiculous on both sides.

It depends on what opinion they're giving. 'He's really cute/he's not that cute' or anything looks based isn't going to have an effect. My tastes are my tastes, they're specific to me and I've never had a friend who shared my opinion. If it's 'this dude exhibits X behaviour I know you don't like, here's examples a, b, c,' I'll pay more attention.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
