Exactly! It's super normal to ask about what a stranger does for a living to find common ground, and further a conversation. I mean if the person is a stranger, it's hard to guide the conversation. A persons job is a huge chunk of their life and can point to their interests as well. More overwhelmingly people ask this question early in a conversation to try and continue it, not to be a gold digger...

Yup! There is nothing wrong with being upfront about what you want out of the encounter. I don't understand why more people don't do this (as long as they're not a jerk about it).
