Sorry. I didn't think very hard about my response earlier. Let me clarify: I do believe there is a patriarchy. It just doesn't bother me that much because I know things are getting better. As long as the vocal few who would like to oppress women (read: crazy ultra-religious, back-water Republicans) are kept in their place and not taken seriously, I think things will naturally improve for women. I mean, I've heard people say they would never vote for a woman for president. I've heard of female do…

Nope. I don't think women have achieved the kind of equality that we want yet, but that doesn't mean there's some sort of systematic oppression of women in the developed world. A patriarchy would be like... Saudi Arabia lol

Feminist here. I can't speak for everyone, but I think you've got the right idea about what's going on. It's confusing, as a woman, to look at history and less developed countries and see the systemic oppression of women. It leads us to ask why. I think without being educated in psychology and sociology, the patriarchy is probably the best explanation they can come up with. What those women need to understand is that men are the same species. That men are people too. The similarities between the…

To be honest, those women just don't understand that they're fighting against human nature. For a variety of different reasons, people's brains are wired to be more inclined to follow a man's leadership than a woman's and to view men as more competent. It sucks if you are female, but it's just kind of a fact of life. As a moderate feminist with largely self-formed, educated opinions, I have a bone to pick with real things. Issues like like job discrimination, the constant shenanigans from Christ…

That's crazy... I'll admit, I may have a bit of a confirmation bias from hearing sensational stories about victim blaming, etc. I never really looked into any of the research or statistics on this issue. Anyway, thank you for informing me.

I'm a feminist, but I don't know where I stand on this myself because rape is a weird issue. Most rapes go unreported and though false claims do happen, it is my understanding that they are about as common as wellfare fraud (2%)? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I don't mean to offend. What bothers me I guess is that when more attention is drawn to the fact that rape claims can be falsified, it becomes harder to prove. If the rapist used a condom and the victim ever got aroused, or if the victim …

In this scenario, a feminist is talking about rape. She's being getting dramatic and making some pretty ridiculous statements. A man defends what she said. The other men listening are more likely to take him seriously. The issue isn't his so he's not seen as whiny. He may even bring out the real issues and help sort through the bullshit. A different man opposes what she said. He's seen as insensitive and sexist because its not his issue and he doesn't seem to be trying to understand, only judgin…

I'm happy things worked out for you and your father. I hope your mom is seeing a therapist or something.

I don't know about any of the deeper sociological or psychological issues causing this. However, it certainly can't help that strong female leads are seen hitting men on tv fairly often and portrayed in a positive light when they do. It's completely fucked up. I don't understand how people can. It isn't physical pain alone that makes domestic violence bad. It's the fact that someone who tells you they love you just hit you. It's fucked up and leaves a scar, regardless of whether anyone can see i…

Nothing to apologize for. :) Anyway, I didn't clarify or really give any hints to that. I was just kind of making generalizations.

I said that meaning that an unhealthy female will exhibit a thicker waist than a healthy one. A thin waist is a signal of health and fertility, where a thick waist denotes a health issue or a hormonal imbalance.

And cats and dogs are all mammals, so they're more alike than different? Cats and dogs are different species. Hell, they're from a different Family. Men and women are of the same species. Nope, not even close. While men and women have the same average intelligence, men have a larger standard deviation than women do. As such, those who are very bright or very dumb are much more likely to be men than women. IQs of 120+ are 2:1 men and IQs of 170+ are 30:1 men. Have you considered that there must b…

Well yeah, but some people in the comments here seem to be getting their whitey-tighties in a bunch over it. I just kind of roll my eyes and click the x button when I see this kind of thing. It's stupid. So stupid its almost funny.

Well the context most people use "equal" in is that one sex is not better than the other. It's undeniable that men and women are different. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately, we are far more alike than different - as we're all humans. There are a lot of differences between the rich and the poor - even down to the way they think. Does that mean one is better than the other or were they just born to cultures that placed different opportunities and expectations on them? Men a…

It's just a common term on seddit. I've never labeled them like that, I just acknowledge that most of my exes would probably be considered beta men by most people.

And I've had no problem with dating beta men. I thought the point of the article and this thread was to make sweeping generalizations about everything.

You may find women much easier to understand if you look at them as people, rather than some strange alien species. Humans by nature are attracted to power because they themselves want power. Yes, women are attracted to men with power. It's not so we can dominate them though... It gives us elevated social status and gives us power in other areas of our lives. Just like men want women with power... just different kinds of power. Men want confident, beautiful women. If you introduce a beautiful, c…

As a woman, every woman is different. Some women want to dominate, and others want to be dominated, but I think most fall somewhere in the middle. What I'm trying to say is, don't give her all your power but don't be a dick either. Your goal in a relationship should be to have a balance of power where both people can feel respected and feel that their needs are being met. If you've gained power over her and you have her wrapped around your finger, good job. You won the power struggle. Have fun w…

First of all, looking into a therapist couldn't hurt. Anyway, If you want to fall in love, you have to see women as people. Honestly though? There is no perfect woman out there for you. It's statistically impossible. There are, however, a few women in this world who you could be happy with. Don't go in with a mental checklist of qualifications they have to meet. Standards are a fantastic thing to have, but be sure you're being realistic. Every woman has flaws. You just need to figure out what fl…

Can you honestly say you see women as human beings like you though? You see hot women and think "I want to bang that." Like most heterosexual males do... Do you ever wonder where she came from? Do you ever realize that she's a human with thoughts, feelings, and experiences just like you? Do you even consider them on the same level as men? If the answer is no, you should probably see a therapist.

Well, you could start by seeing women as people. It sounds like you're talking about buying a car for fucks sake. "Why should I buy one car when I can rent any car I want? Should I wait until I can afford a reaalllyy nice car, or just find something I like now? Maybe I shouldn't get a car like that until I'm a better driver and getting better insurance rates... I mean, how can you even choose to buy a car when there are so many cars out there to choose from anyway?? What if I don't buy the best …

The theory was that you develop AA if they're inattentive and don't give you enough signals that you're a beautiful, lovable person within the first tow years of life. You don't remember any of this. Also, it's not flat-out rejection that causes AA. It's when they're inconsistent. Sometimes they treat you like you're the best thing ever, but other times they ignore you. Your parents could have been like this when you were too young to remember and cleaned up their act later, once that damage was…

Join an artsy organization like drama or band or chorus or art club. If the people suck, leave. If you find the people kind and welcoming, just accept it... even if they're really weird. If the only people you find that you're comfortable talking to happen to be ugly and strange, as long as they accept you, don't worry about it. Find things to talk about, practice social skills with them, and don't be scared to ask questions. Once you're comfortable there, just start branching out a little. Litt…
