Baby steps: "Mills said the 50/50 temporary parenting law "is just until permanent custody gets worked out. We are also, eventually, wanting to look at a similar permanent custody law.""

Right, I understand 'frequent, continuing and meaningful contact' alone is not an addition. I appreciate your critical thinking here, and while my layman speculation shouldn't convince you, I'd posit that courts ordaining "frequent, continuing and meaningful contact" to mean once every other weekend visitation, would fall under sex discrimination if it is presumed for the father because he is the father. The addition of an explicit statement on sex discrimination seems significant in the very sc…

Pg 11. #4. Is where I'm pulling 'frequent, continuing...'. Next pg is the explicit statement on sex discrimination. No lawyer here, just a guy. EDIT: More things. It's the premise of frequent and continuing contact as in a child's best interest PLUS explicit statement on sex discrimination (addition) that makes it significant, right? Do you agree or no? I want to make sure I fully understand as well.

Bill contains "frequent, continuing and meaningful contact" with both parents as the preferred premise of "child's best interest" + an explicit statement on parental fitness not being presumed or dismissed on the basis of gender. Not the definitive presumption, sure, and it may end up being a symbolic passing on the way to legislation with more teeth as you say. I'm really not sure how any bill short of presumption actually plays out in large sample sizes, but I do relish the shifting public sen…

I'm skeptical too. From a journalistic stand point, we just document their words and see what happens as the bill progresses.

Amen. It may be worthwhile to catalog his active peers and successors somewhere on the subreddit. Pizzey and Dutton are getting up there (in age). Denise Hines is doing some groundbreaking stuff with legal and administrative aggression. Nicola Graham-Kevan recently dispelled Johnson's typology and appears to have kept her DOB a secret from cursory Google searches...anyone you'd add to the list?

Okay yeah, it's just a shit article. And it's a good rule of thumb to read bills rather than go by a description alone. I've put it in this thread a few comments up if you're interested.

Where are you getting that? The bill text explicitly favors joint physical and joint legal custody for both parents unless it is determined to not be in the best interest of the child.

A little more in depth but still nothing about controversy: https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2016/05/10/838639/10162581/en/NATIONAL-PARENTS-ORGANIZATION-APPLAUDS-MISSOURI-LEGISLATURE-FOR-JOINING-THE-NATIONWIDE-SHARED-PARENTING-MOVEMENT.html

Unfortunately the media on this is very sparse thus far. There are a handful of opinion pieces that came out in support within the last few days. Go back to February and there's a news bit about the bill being introduced. As of yesterday the Missouri For Shared Parenting group said they were unaware of any lobby protesting against the bill. NOW's Missouri chapter isn't posting about it yet on their social media, and I attempted to get a statement from them regarding the bill via Facebook but hav…

https://nationalparentsorganization.org/docs/2014_Shared_Parenting_Report_Card%2011-10-2014.pdf ^ a bit dated but overwhelmingly, most states suck when it comes to a shared parenting premise or presumption.

I found a local chapter of the Father's Rights Movement that is fairly organized in petitioning the state for custody reform. That's just not a sort of activism I see this subreddit as capable of; and its certainly not the fault of the individual users, rather our broad geographic locations. That said, there are areas of action the sub could be better about, particularly fundraising. And I'm open to other ideas as to how the sub could/should function. But I think it's current state, rage bait an…

I think these forums function well as they do, and you may want to look elsewhere for meaningful activism local to and immediately affecting you.

In the same breath, many feminists will say men want to treat the child like their property...fucking beggars belief.

I'm not saying she'll undoubtedly go there, but that is the makings of someone who will strike their partner, and then when he returns the favor, drop to the floor sobbing and try to get him arrested out of spite alone.

Like whether or not it's even an autonomy issue, or what? I was under the impression that one was near unanimous in support. But I'm newer here and only play part time.

I took it as they had a local news anchor on their show, and had I called minutes earlier, would have caught them in-studio. I was only on air for maybe 60-120 seconds. I'm not familiar with the radio station or their website at all; just blindly called from this story. However I believe it was the "Morning Blend" I called into and presumably that would be where the audio from this news anchor resides.

I called the radio station and they streamed me live into their show. Said the story wasn't satire and that someone from the local news just left their studio; interview would be on the website later today. 507-625-1420 If anyone wants.

I did find this: http://mobi.perezhilton.com/2014-12-02-lady-gaga-deny-claim-kesha-lawyer-dr-luke-rape-her#.VsjNPqBMHqA Can you link me something for what you're saying?

That was my gut reaction too. Like she probably walked home fine without a second thought. Meanwhile he's all fucked up on social networking. Also, bonus points if you noticed the conundrum of the women walking alone at night. gasps

Lol well there goes my theory. How about this: I can imagine contexts where it would and wouldn't be something I condone, none of which involve violence as a response to its mere utterance.
/r/MensRights24/01/16 08:53 PM
1

Saying that it's wrong and saying that it justifies violence are two different positions. Thus, condemning her violence does not necessitate condoning his words. I don't think anyone so far in the comments is condoning his words. Now I'm curious, you say 'take gender out of it'. So you are egalitarian with your poor judgement? You would feel that violence is justified no matter how gender is manipulated? A woman saying it to a woman? A woman saying it to a man? If so, at least you're consistent.…
/r/MensRights24/01/16 08:36 PM
5

Fair enough EDIT: I meant that in the 'you are entitled to your opinion and I'm not going to expend any more effort here' way.
/r/MensRights24/01/16 03:17 AM

Plus the angle I'm thinking of, and as another commenter already mentioned, is gender swap. What if a woman came up to a man, said that or something comparable, and he or one of his male friends punched her in the face? His violence would likely then be the "misogyny" if someone were to sling the accusation.

I agree, it is rude as all hell. But you would go straight to assault? What about our words?
