One Factor they miss is age. Most high earners are older men and older women don't work that much because 1 women didn't work much in past and 2 women are more likely to leave job. Other is field of work. STEM people are going to earn more than average and they are majority men. Major factor is overtime. Women don't need to work overtime usually. If statisic shows age wise field wise distribution then that would be more honest take.
