2	Female Trump protester gets punched after spitting on man. Then you'd no longer be a threat and chasing you to punch you would be an act of aggression, not self defense. In this case, both parties can file charges of assault/battery. However it's usually not worth it to pursue criminal charges in such a case, so it might be labeled "mutual combat" and left at that.
