I feel like I’m being punishedThat doesn’t sound right. Invest in the opinion of a 2nd lawyer. 85%? Maybe if your alimony & CS is compensated by being lower. Is that what’s going on here? There should be a spreadsheet. Uploading all of your documents to ChatGPT isn’t a bad idea either. I would not use it for legal advice but you can ask it to read everything & to give its opinion, and also raise high quality questions to ask your attorney. It can also be used to help craft unemotional emails or correspondence to your atty or… | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/07/25 09:08 PM
How can they live with themselves? This is the way. There is a lot to be negotiated remember so you can tell her to her face that less than 50/50 is a non-starter. That’s what I did. I’m 7 years removed and am 50/50 and my boys are thriving. It gets better but that period sucked ass. You must draw hard lines. Stay calm regardless of how much she says the children are “scared of you”, which is inevitable at some point. (That would play into her hands and the judges see the same shit all the time. They know). Don’t drink. Laser foc… | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/07/25 11:11 AM
New to divorce, am I being screwed? There are a lot of variables that make up CS so impossible to know for us. Get a good lawyer who understands the worksheet. The calculus is relatively standard in most states ones you set the custody time and know incomes and who gets to claim on taxes, etc etc. They will typically always ask for more than they deserve. You should counter by asking for more than you seasoning you wind up in a fair place. Dont negotiate against yourself. You have to be proactive, and stick to your guns bc she wil… | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/06/25 07:23 PM
STBXW said I threatened to kill her.Talk to your attorney asap. If you don’t have one, find one asap. Be careful about the recording comment. That may be against the law and inadmissible. I had similar issues. I simply avoided her in the house and refused to interact with her so nothing could be misinterpreted. But yes, unfortunately this kind of crap is way more common than it should be. Why I will likely never marry again. I’ve been a blissful bachelor for many years since. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/09/24 11:24 PM
Is it worth fighting over $100-300k in house and business valuation? (30M)$100K+ in your favor??? 100% worth it. At a minimum, you can use as a massive bargaining chip to get something else you covet. Your current income isn’t enough to warrant not fighting for it. I do residential mortgages for Wells Fargo so if you need any help or resources, HMU. Good luck. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/08/24 01:08 PM
Just slept with another woman again and ended up crying in my bathroomRead “The Power of Now”. You are stuck in the past. Even though you initiated the divorce, you’re still very much dealing with the trauma. Don’t compare your situation to your ex’s. You seem to have no interest in getting to know another woman in depth right now bc you don’t really know who you are. Stop dating until you figure that out. If you’re lonely, spend that time with supportive friends and family. Give it 6-12 months and if you just focus on yourself, you will be a different human being… | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/08/24 11:09 AM
Blowing it up for a dead bedroom and no loveDo it sooner than later. It’s much better when the kids are younger. I made the decision 5 1/2 years ago and it was the best thing that I ever did. My boys were seven and five at the time. I am a huge part of their lives even when I don’t have them. They are athletes, so I see them almost every day driving them to and from practice going to games, etc. You can do it in a way that is similar, where you prioritize their welfare and move down the street from their mother. Just make sure you get a r… | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/09/23 01:30 AM
Alimony length in NJI hope you’re right. Maybe it changed. There also could be slight variations depending on circumstances I would surmise. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/10/22 03:00 PM
Alimony length in NJThis is easy. NJ resident here, (44M) divorced in in 2018 married 10 years. I made more but she worked (but honestly don’t think it matters in NJ). They will assign her a base income of like $35K or so. They will take 1/3 of the delta between your salaries and that’s your annual alimony. So if you make $150K, and they use $35K for her, you have a $115K delta. Divide by 3. That’s $38,333 per year. My ex wife initiated the negotiations with me at 5 years of alimony. (Again, we were married 10). I … | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/10/22 11:32 AM
