I don't think you realize how much impact your words have and how much comments like these loving dads all over NEED to hear. Thank you, so much, for taking the time to write your perspective.

Oh I agree it's stupid, I would love nothing else other than family to leave me the heck alone for a few hours while I tinker or do something on my own. but for me it gives me a day to look forward to as bonding time, even if it's just throwing ball in the backyard. look at how your kids are seeing it, too.

Why are you downplaying your role as a father? It is as important as the moms. Just because you see value in that they can have an awesome time with mom during a trip that should be your day, does not negate the fact that you should own up to your role. Surely you can find something to do with your kids. "Even garbage time is good time", brother.

Life happens brother, I'm sorry that you are going through this. Your son seems to be on track to despising her, long term, correct? There needs to be at least one sane parent, is a term that I have heard before.

What if you meet someone who is open to adoption, would this be a path you would consider? I'm thinking from what I've read in your replies is that you long for a family, a place to belong with a partner and child/ren. Just an observation.

Reading all this screams that you both have an unhealthy attachment to each other, and simply just benefiting for the sake of it, while not addressing the elephant in the room. Long term, I think you will need to watch out for resentment, unless you are already there.

Mine was the same, only I was told that she had made her mind up even before couples therapy started, and the only reason she went though with it with me was to appease me. in some sense, I feel as if she needed an unbiased validation that she was doing the right thing. I don't know, will never know, and the best part....I don't care anymore. I have moved on and working on myself, and I get to paint the rest of this canvas of life in color. Stay strong brother

At the end of the day is it really worth it, mentally and physiologically, to be in this space? And what is the example you are trying to set for your children. That it's ok to live in a horrible, miserable life and that is the reality of a family unit? I completely disagree in staying for the sake of staying, however, I wouldn't throw the towel until all other avenues to fix are exhausted. Eventually kids will see through it all, and there are countless stories of kids who wished their parents …

Yes, and there is plenty of studies to show that this is true.

See it also from your kids lens as well. At the end of the day, what are you really modeling for them? That life has to suck and you be ok with it miserable and regretful until the end of your days, or were you brave and courageous enough to make a change for what you wanted in life? If anything, your children will be happier in a two home sits where both parents are happy, rather than a loveless home. See it in that context and it may become clearer for you.

Exactly....I started fishing too, man .. that's like therapy. It's like slowly unlocking Pandora boxes with this stuff, isn't it? Life is.....interesting

Brother, we are all in the same boat I think. For me, what has worked is getting back to those hobbies and interest you put aside to focus on your family. I get back to those and it's been helping. Also, hiking and walks in the woods, I don't know man, something about being in nature amongst trees and bodies of water has a sense of peace to it. But, allow yourself to feel these things too. You are not broken for being sad or being in despair...allowing you to have grace for all those emotions is…

It's wild how much pain we carry in our hearts, especially if children are involved. Man in the Arena is my inspiration: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizenship_in_a_Republic Hope you are in a better place, brother.

Goddamnmit....this is so true. She even was nice enough to tell me that she thought of the seperation while on a trip......... A year before!!! A. Year. Before! You are right, she's light-years away in the process.

Because this shit hurts to our core, and being ultra protective of our little ones is the only thing we will focus on. Be patient and kind, is the only advice I will give.
