Except in this case Burnham ran unopposed, meaning there wasn't a woman, man, or dog in the race other than him to end up in second place. Perhaps Baroness Harman should have stood against him during the contest instead of squeezing those sour grapes after the fact.

I see the same rhetoric in right wing press in the UK used to demonise young male refugees especially; once you hit puberty you aren't a child fleeing oppression or violence, you're a "fighting-age man". Your gender is sufficient reason to categorise you as a threat rather than a victim.

Similar stories for all the reality show goons and their gooning followers. The women and the men involved in that culture are usually toxic, entitled narcissists, nothing is ever their faults. Women, however, seem to still be able to pull the "Look what you made me do!" card in a way that (rightly) is no longer acceptable for men. We even had #bekind after Caroline Flack's suicide. Because abusers are human too, and get sad when they face consequences for their actions.

Literally insane to think men would "rape women in a minute if they could". The whole crux of women being afraid of men is that the majority of men could rape or assault if they wanted to. When a man leaves prison his family, his support network is still in place. That's deluded. Prison time should be the same for everyone for the same crime, and it should happen a lot less often for everyone. I can't think of a single argument made in favour of keeping women, specifically, out of prison that couldn't also apply to male offenders.

The only way their argument makes sense is if women were obliged to give up 6 months of their life providing childcare, and were obliged to bear and raise a child during wartime. I remember one German government in particular made a big thing about women's duty to procreate, even they didn't go as far as mandating it.

Say the genders were reversed. A wife of 3 years got divorced and expected, despite a pre-nup, to have £26,000 a year to spend on a personal chef because she "can't even cook an omelette", plus the rest. Why would a movement for equality so jealously guard its status as perennial victim rather than advocate for equal treatment. "Stop! My local council has had a massive "equal pay" payout because they put (mostly female) cleaning staff on a lower banding than (mostly male) refuse collection staff.
