She has apparently recently stopped her therapeutic practice.

I saw someone on Instagram saying men ruin everything (they had made the bathrooms at her university unisex and I guess she had deduced that this was ultimately the fault of men attending the university). Her bio said she is studying psychology. I wonder how common blatantly anti-male views are held by those working in the mental health field and if it has any impact on how men interact with the mental health field.

There probably is but I’m not aware of one. A lot of the info I’ve gleaned on the subject has been from writings/videos dealing with eugenics, far right ideology, videos critiquing the New Atheist movement, some critical theory stuff. It’s also something I consider more of a “vibe” than anything super solid and thought out tbh. I’m not sure most people who engage in this kind of thinking are even aware they are doing so.

We live in an era of pseudo-Darwinian, neo-eugenic ideology where the average person knows just enough about evolutionary concepts to use them in attempts to justify conclusions they’ve already arrived at.

It’s similar to Marxists who fail to understand the importance of the shift to a service economy and that we are not all living in late 19th century London.

I know someone who has used this term to describe 4 interactions I have had with people over the past few years. 3/4 of those interactions were with a women. If 3/4 of the people doing the “mansplaining” were women, maybe the term is kind of stupid or inaccurate.

All that studying of intersectionality was nearly entirely wasted on these people imo.

The burden of blame for male loneliness online has largely shifted onto men themselves so there is less of a felt necessity for society to address it. Very convenient lol.

I was astonished how many boys were on medication I’m not anti-meds but I am consistently surprised how many people think the problems associated with mental/developmental disorders would simply vanish if everyone was on the right medical cocktail. It’s such a complicated issue and the average person’s response to it around me is some variation of “they just need more therapy/meds.” I suppose it’s better than outright denial.

Hard agree. Many men learn to not discuss their mental/developmental issues because they are met with negative reactions and outcomes.

why the FUCK do these people think men have to? Because they objectify men and do not see them as actual human beings.

I’ve seen the “male loneliness epidemic” be associated with the Right Wing more and more on YouTube. To the point where it’s being argued that it’s actually a “Right Wing Male Loneliness Epidemic” and apparently not impacting left-leaning men, which is hilarious. It comes across as just erasure of an issue instead of finding ways to deal with it. “Oh this only affects the evil rightoid men so we don’t have to treat it as a serious issue.” These same people then bemoan young men gravitating towar…

Whenever I hear this argument I’m always wondering biologically deficient, how? It’s also kind of funny to be oppressed for centuries by a group that is supposedly “biologically deficient”. Hmm where have I encountered this rhetoric before…

I increasingly am seeing “ambition” used as a code word for money and status. It’s not subtle at all lol.

The argument used against your first paragraph is that society itself is men’s safe space and exists primarily for men. That is the line I’ve repeatedly heard as a rebuttal to this issue.

He’s a symptom not a cause, it’s far easier for people to blame societal/gender woes on him and individual figures like him than to take a broader look at root causes. If there wasn’t a felt need for people like him he wouldn’t be nearly as popular. Re students not talking to female teachers I would ask why would a student be receptive to that in the first place instead of laughing it off and paying it no mind? I feel these are the questions people are not asking because it requires more effort …

They were basically saying she is white presenting, neurotypical and conventionally attractive and that her parents are both doctors (so, members of the medical specialist class) and that this effected how she viewed many of the topics she covers on her channel. They also mentioned her being young in her field and possibly compensating for that somewhat in her content. I can probably find the comment later.

There was a comment in a thread on her in the red scare subreddit that seemed pretty accurate from what I’ve seen. Basically a (probably) very privileged person whose privilege leaks into their worldview and content whether they are aware of it or not.

Anecdotally, most of the men I’ve known who self-report loneliness can go days with either nobody or few people reaching out to them whereas pretty much every single woman I’ve known who has self-reported loneliness has had quite a few people in contact with them on a daily basis, though they appear to not be the people they want to speak to or something. It’s a very noticeable difference to me that I seldom bring up because it seems to provoke anger in people when mentioned.

There is some leftist YouTuber who recently put out a video arguing there is no male loneliness epidemic, only a right wing male loneliness epidemic. People like this are helping to dig their own societal grave, imo. They can act as surprised as they want to if/when the inevitable pressure valve release situation occurs (as it seems to occur in other countries with similar problems) but they sort of exacerbated trends due to their own ideological hangups and biases.

There doesn’t seem to be much interest in questioning the sexual/dating culture of modern capitalist Western societies beyond a certain point. It’s one of the areas in which Leftists seem to abandon thoughts of equity. Flashbacks of this “socialist” woman I knew posting “broke boys don’t deserve no pussy” on her socials lol

The assumption is that since we live in a “patriarchal society” boys/young men are inherently empowered and do not require surplus assistance/empowerment/support. In fact if they struggle in any way it’s seen as them being defective/losers/lazy because how could you possibly fail in a system designed to ensure you come out on top in every situation? (this isn’t actually the case imo, it’s actually borderline delusional to truly believe this is how things are currently but it’s the common go-to r…

They want to be approached but only by people they are already attracted to. It’s an infantile grievance that everyone takes seriously for various reasons.

I think they want to understand but they also want the explanation to be the things they’ve already arrived at. They don’t seem very open to anything novel.

Neurodivergent men tend to get hit pretty hard with gaslighting as well when they attempt to socialize and it doesn’t work out. They are told they must not be trying hard enough or that they must intentionally be sabotaging themselves. I think people get cause and effect switch a lot when it comes to this topic.
