Yeah, that was exactly the situation I was in. I always told people that she was willing to go thermonuclear scorched earth warfare over absolutely every single conflict, and I was not. That was why we fell into the pattern of her steamrolling me.

Yeah, that’s the one thing I think would have prevented the breakdown of my marriage. If I could go back 4 or 5 years and tell myself “go ahead and say the shit you need to say, even though you know it will upset her. Her reaction is entirely on her” That lesson is the one main thing I’m going to take forward into future relationships. I’d rather be disliked for who I really am rather than being loved as an illusion.

For me, it was about 10 years in when I started to become afraid of upsetting her.

Yeah, but there is time for all of that. I am on my way out of a 14 year marriage at 33 years old. Even if you were 49 years old, and you got married next year, you still wouldn’t even be retired before your marriage lasted longer than mine did. Don’t stress. Just heal yourself and let the rest fall into place.

The deal I’ve made with my ex was that I’d move out and pay the utilities and rent for her until the lease was up on the condition that we did 50/50 custody and I paid no child support. At the end of August, I’ll switch to paying her child support. I’m always planning long term though, so I already had a plan for where we were going to move to next, and I just decided to move up that timeline by 1 year.

Humans are supposed to pair bond. Our nervous systems co-regulate with each other. Losing your ex wife is the death of your primary relationship. I fully support finding someone else to help you through the very dark times. It’s not as if they need to replace your ex wife. You guys can just show up for each other, and so long as both people are into it and enjoying it, keep on going. Just take some words of advice: Take it slow. Commitment can certainly be on the table, but make good and sure yo…

Never allow fear of losing your relationship to cause you to suppress yourself. That’s a 1 way ticket to self-destruction. I don’t know if he cares for you. It kinda doesn’t seem like he is interested in more. Or maybe the divorce was absolute hell for him, and he’s terrified of doing it again. It may simply be the case that you guys aren’t right for each other right now. The troubling thing I note is that all the effort in this relationship seems to be from you to him. My guess is that won’t ch…

Wait… judges are ordering you to pay her attorneys fees for motions she’s bringing against you?

Never take legal advice from your opponent… that’s what she is now. Your opponent. Do not try to win her back. Do not give an inch. She doesn’t love you. She doesn’t even like you. She would be happy if you were broke, locked up, and forced to be her literal chattel slave. That’s what she wants from you. She would not even attend your funeral. Let that fuel your inner resolve.

Child support reviews are automatically invoked every 3 years if nothing changes. If something changes, then a new motion can be brought for an upward adjustment. At that moment, litigation has started. If the court asks you “how much money do you make?”, you cannot lie to them.

If you’re trying to be convincing, you’ve failed. Nobody is on board with your message

Uhh… no. You’re legally required to disclose income during discovery.

You do realize that if he makes more money, that’s grounds for an upward adjustment, right?

Im trying to remind myself over and over again that she’s not my wife anymore. She’s just a random friend that I might see anywhere out in public. I go home, I cry when I need to. I’m really early into this so all the feelings are still really raw. I have been working on creating my own household and splitting the bills and finances apart. That has helped keep my mind off of missing her

I think that what I’m going to do in order to not fall into that hole is go join some groups and participate in some shared activities with people. As lame as it sounds, I’d be willing to do a fucking arts and crafts session, so long as I was able to do it with somebody. I figure that I have no friends because she set me up that way. So now I need to break that hold she has on me and go get some new friends.

Yeah, that’s not borderline. BPD is easy to describe as follows: Imagine how a person might behave if, for whatever reason, they learned very early on that close/intimate relationships were not safe. They will test for safety constantly, which looks like progressively more ridiculous scenarios they put you through. They’ll immediately flip if their unsafe feelings get triggered. Suddenly, something that would normally have been a completely innocuous irritation that any normal person would have …

My soon to be ex wife had 95% of everything she ever wanted. She, of course, hyper fixated on the 5% she didn’t have, and made our entire marriage about that. She in effect said “I deserve someone that will give me that other 5%” She started asking for a divorce about 6 months ago, and then last month I finally said “enough is enough” and started working on my exit strategy. I moved out last Thursday night. She’s about to be feeling a lot of hurt. That 95% of things she got from me has started d…

I’m about to start going through this. I just moved out last night. Fortunately, I’m going to land on my feet. I had already planned for years to buy my parents house from them. It was supposed to happen September 2025, but they’ve allowed me to move in early and I’ll be setting up bedrooms for the kids this weekend. Meet with a lawyer today to come up with a rough agreement for the interim. I’d like to start out with week on/week off custody. My STBX hasn’t really been around much for the last …

I don’t know if this is going to make sense, but I read a random comment on a post one time. There’s no context needed. I just think about this comment often. “How dare she make me feel my own feelings!” For some reason, those words unlocked the ability in me to feel my pain. I was able to cry for the first time in over a decade. I kept crying over it all until I didn’t need to cry anymore. I think, for a lot of us, we push our feelings down and never release them. It’s a good thing in many case…

My concern is that any extra money I make will become the new baseline down the road. Sure, I could grind 60 hours a week and make tons of extra cash, but that’s just going to bite me later on when she could claim that this is just my normal income

You’re right. And it really doesn’t look great for her. That’s on her though. You’re doing the right thing by keeping your honor and dignity intact

Alright, well if you make that much, $1500 shouldn’t be too bad for you. You’ve gotta bring home like what, $13k-$15k?
/r/Divorce_Men08/05/24 04:46 PM

Did they take into account her income as well? Because just estimating, if they did, you’d need to be making $250k per year to justify that number
/r/Divorce_Men08/05/24 04:43 PM

If your wife makes $160k per year, she’s not really going to be entitled to that much child support unless you make WWAAAAYYYYY more. Like, $1500 per month is absurdly high.
