If you don’t mind me asking… what your postgraduate degree is in. Not at all. I’m a psychiatrist …why the blue pill flair? …any truth to TRP? Okay, to answer one requires answering both, so here we go. TRP: I actually think there’s a lot of truth in some of the conclusions it reaches - when it’s talking about very specific, fixed variables eg. having more money, in general, will make you more attractive to more people (superficially) Height does make you more attractive (to a point) and the stru…

Exactly - BPD patients exist on a spectrum from “minor instability” to “I threw myself in front of a train to stop my bf from breaking up with me”

I’m unsure where to begin. I have literally made none of the claims you are attributing to me. I have not stated it’s anti male/female to discuss reasons for rejection, I have not assumed they can adjust their desire (in fact I have argued in PPD that people have no control over their desire) and while I accept people can feel this way about their expectations, I have also not made this claim. How can I respond? It’s like you’ve replied to a different post? I simply haven’t made those claims, an…

It tries to draw on (pop) evo-psych to substantiate/rationalize its claims, but the actual scientific research here is absent. The claims TRP makes as definitive, actually have no robust research behind them. Strong evo-psych results are rare; and they are more specific and nuanced (I can provide examples if you like) than anything that could be generalized to [all behavior of a gender] of Homo sapiens. Freud was injected by OP in this post. Yes, I have not seen Freud (or any psychodynamics) inv…

I grew up without my father. And spent 12 years with an abusive stepdad. I would let the women I was dating walk all over me You have no self-esteem, and at your core, you feel unloveable. You’re absolutely not unloveable, but you feel this way, and TRP will not fix this. While I am glad TRP has enabled you to change some of your behaviors to increase your success with dating, you are exactly the case study as to why TRP is successful, and as to why it will not lead to long term happiness (check…

The comment from u/GridReXX is actually good here, and you should think about it u/Dry-Ad3452 She’s not attacking you, but it is difficult to separate critique of one’s worldview from personal critique, and I completely understand why you feel attacked, but you need to think about why you have this feeling (very important) I completely understand your point, and yes, I agree that men who feel really hurt by romantic rejection and complain actually do face unnecessary and harsher blowback than wo…

TRP is about explaining male and female sexual nature, as I have pulled everything from red pill sources. Sure, but this doesn’t make it correct. I am aware that “Madonna/whore” is a Freud thing, I have detailed the premise specifically for red pill men to read (as many of them are strangely unaware or outright deny what the red pill says about male nature). But Freud is emphatically not saying this about male behaviour; he is explaining a very specific developmental misstep that occurs to some …

Okay, so you think the posts are misandry, but not concerning because they don't advocate for action to directly harm men? I would agree with you, only differing on the point that misandry/misogyny is by itself concerning. Just not as concerning as... more forceful behaviour.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/25 03:04 PM

In fairness, you have contradicted yourself here: It’s misandry/misogyny to hate someone not for their actions but based on their gender. And then: The above titles only talk about their personal feelings. But from the first post above: Help, I don't want to hate men, but I find myself starting to (1.2k upvotes) (all emphasis is mine) You switch from, "misandry/misogyny is hatred" to "misandry/misogyny is desire to punish/hurt" - I'm not making a value judgement here, but which one is it? You li…

I do disagree with her conclusions - but those are just that: conclusions. The overwhelming majority of my post is discussing the premises those conclusions are based on, and I absolutely disagree with those. When you say, "standing premises" (emphasis mine) these are the conclusions, not the premises. I don't mean to be needlessly pedantic, but my entire post is basically: history of cited psychological complex, why it's not a mating strategy, disagree with concluding remarks. To clarify: it's …

TRP is definitively not an evo-psych theory; it tries to draw (poorly substantiated) just-so theories in an attempt to “explain” female behavior, and in doing so actually completely fails to explain… female behavior. While I appreciate the effort put in to this post, I have to admit I find it a little strange owing to my background. Attempting to load “male mating strategy” (no such thing exists) on to the Madonna whore complex is… something. Is OP aware that Freud was not articulating a male re…

I think that we simply have a disagreement on what “falling in love” actually is. I disagree that you can “help” who you fall in love with, but I do agree that we make choices in terms of who we devote our time, attention and resources to. As for “love is work” - yes, but this is relationship maintenance, and not what I meant by “falling in love” Think limerance. No one can predict this.

In the often sea-of-despair that is PPD, this topic has elicited an avalanche of particularly depressing responses. Does no one believe in love anymore? Does no one understand you can’t really help who you fall in love with? Be with the person you’re passionate about, and vice-versa. Life is a long-game; if you marry for looks/height/money, but you don’t actually love the person, of course it’s not going to work. Edit to add: u\DebateTraining2 is correct, and I’m glad someone else said it.

No, I’m definitely calm. And the defense mechanism you’re referring to here is projective identification, not projection. Non-psychiatrists get this wrong all the time. An intentionally reductive generalization - the addition is in the generalizing to a larger set of individuals than you originally circumscribed.

Dude chill, I wasn’t dismissing it: read my original post again. My statement is reductive in that it generalizes your observation. That’s it, that’s what I’m contributing here. It’s “intentionally dismissive” inasmuch as I have nothing to say on the manosphere’s views: I don’t hang in those circles, I’m not a US citizen, and I just have nothing I want to say about it. My idea is relevant because it’s connected to your post; it doesn’t have to be a direct response to your question. I’m also unsu…

Not a meaningless deflection at all. I tried to contribute to the debate with an idea that I hadn’t seen advanced yet. You’re welcome to ignore it, however my contribution is still written right there in my initial post. I very clearly stated that I was not remarking on the specific political issue; I honestly find US politics rather tepid in how extreme its polarity is. A cursory read through the comments here confirms: yes, very polarized, and yes, I’m not prepared to wade in to those waters. …
/r/PurplePillDebate31/01/25 02:05 AM

Feminists are not “dedicated” to attacking men. I said extremes, chief. There are indeed a subset of people who sail under the banner of feminism but espouse misandry. They don’t speak for the majority, nor do they have a legitimate academic footing - you need to read what I actually wrote. Apropos of that, there are men’s rights groups that actually just raise awareness of men’s issues: mental health, legal issues related to divorce and child custody, and so on. Thankfully the majority of peopl…
/r/PurplePillDebate30/01/25 05:59 PM

Yes - thank you for saying this. I will only add that what I can see from the exit data indicates most Trump voters cast their ballot due to economic frustrations (inflation coupled with wage growth) I am not saying this was not misguided or myopic, or that the democrats are not wearing the identity politics mantle; simply that the “owning the libs” phenomenon is more an online meme (for people like us) than a force that moved the needle much with ordinary (normie) voters.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/01/25 03:46 PM

While I agree that the edge of the manosphere is overtly misogynistic, this is really just horseshoe theory: the extremes of both the pro-masculinity and pro-femininity movements are dedicated to attacking the other gender. As a kind of immutable characteristic, there will always be members of each tribe who can only define themselves in their hatred of the other side. And so it doesn’t really matter; misogyny and misandry will always exist to some extent in a free society. TRP and down to the l…

You have will, and nothing is more important than your will. You do choose your behaviors, and something, somewhere inside of you will emerge into happiness under the right conditions. If you’re really miserable? If you’re dying of starvation and you can’t leave the bed? If you’re actively suicidal? Then you/your loved ones bring you to someone like me, I do some sorcery/pharmacology/ECT and then you start to feel better. Then we have weekly chats and I teach you new behaviors. This will blow your mind: different people find different things attractive. I know man. Point being: one girl may find a particular guy cute, while Lilith may think “unattractive” - So, while “not being attractive” is an exclusionary criteria for dating (sure, I agree with you here) it’s a subjective criteria held by the perceiver - not by the perceived. There will be some relatively broad sociocultural consensus over what is considered attractive, and superficially some people really do fare b…
/r/PurplePillDebate28/01/25 11:42 AM

Yes! A wild positive-Lilith has appeared! And yes, you are correct here. Typically people riff off the stereotypes in their head, and how this imaginary other threatens them or makes them insecure. “Chad” as a stereotype must tautologically be an asshole, because Chad is a male stereotype. Men conceive of the irresistible-but-asshole guy because he represents the duality of their frustrations at their own impotence (“why can’t I get laid?”) but also (importantly) their rage: he hurts women. “See…

many women fail at it And many women don’t. This entirely depends on the person, and as it pertains to both genders, there’s no difference here. shitting on people that women choose Because women are a monolithic mass, and they all have the same criteria, and they all choose badly? for women it’s usually superficial thing Everyone has superficial attributes they’re attracted to. It doesn’t mean the attraction lasts as they get to know the person better. if a girl doesn’t respect Everyone should have a partner that respects them. “Standards” aren’t some universal set of attributes that generalise to everyone; different people are attracted to different things. “Women’s standards” here exists only as a construct in your mind for you to criticise women specifically; “raise yo…

You raise some good points, I will try to address them. clinically depressed This is a bait and switch; we are no longer discussing loneliness, but clinical depression. Anyone that met the criteria for clinical depression - for arguments sake, MDD diagnosed via the DSM-V - would require medical treatment. Yes, we have an ethical obligation as a society to help medically ill patients. However, if we move from MDD to the more ambiguous “loneliness” - then we automatically induce a murkier analysis…

I assure you I am not looking for “someone to shit on” - my point is (and remains) both sides of this argument are in fact correct. I really must insist that I am not “anti-men” Again, men’s issues and mental health are very important to me. I mean, that comment was never intended to “help” (inasmuch as a reddit comment could wield social power) As far as claim #2 is concerned, it would require the individual to examine how their behaviour has lead to their current circumstances, and then learn new behaviours. As a social and cultural issue, I take male loneliness and mental health extremely seriously; I completely agree that claim #1 “exists” (is an ontological category) and there are several factors leading in to this. I do not di…

Why do guys pretend not fucking immediately means no sex at all? Because in their worldview, female desire exists only as a binary. And if you’re not immediately having sex, then it must mean the guy is undesirable/beta/[whatever] Worse, they’re always the ones not getting laid immediately. Which means they’re some inferior specimen of human being. My professional judgement: they should base their self-esteem less on sex.

Some women may use sex as a way of trying to build intimacy or cultivate interest. See also: men who spend a lot of money trying to impress a woman. Neither of these work in the long run, because they’re not what true intimacy is.

Horseshoe theory, but applied to gender relations instead of politics: the worst actors of misogyny and misandry I have ever seen have been in this sub. When I joined PPD, I was looking for thoughtful debate. Ah, sweet summer child.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/01/25 02:10 PM

I want to add an upvote for your last paragraph. It’s true, and an oft overlooked aspect of feminist theory. Though once you start claiming that both genders are oppressed by the patriarchy, and that some women even benefit from it, you need to take the next logical step: “patriarchy” is now a placeholder word for power. “Men and women without power are oppressed by those who have it” - sounds exactly right.

I just wanted to say OP: 👏 👏 👏 for your post. And one further thought: when people become old enough, they start to feel the weight of the system, and the system will try to break them. All it cares about is pushing your behaviour in a specific direction. It’s no accident that everything in TRP involves a credit card.

Sense of self is a pretty well validated construct, and in no way is it conflated with charisma as far as psychology is concerned. Maybe she is lying, or she’s not using the words correctly, or [something else] but that’s a separate argument. You need to duke that one out with her. Your goals might change, but something that underlies those - a value system - (even unconsciously held) will glue it all together. Again, the important thing is you: “my goal was to buy a house, but then my neighbour Bob died and life is short so now I want a Ferrari” is a change in (material) goals that’s totally consistent with a stable sense of self. It’s a natural psychic response to an external event. You’ve even put the connecting threads together yourself. Imagine instead you’re a Lakers…

Not at all. And no one is asking you to describe “my human experience” - they’re asking you to describe you. We never (I never) ask this question directly. Through talking to the patient you start to get a sense of how they view themselves, and what you may be looking for in certain conditions is, does this self-image fluctuate over time? (ie is it stable?) It’s not something you may have asked yourself (nor is there any implication here you should have - most people never do) But barring some s…

Psychologically, having a sense of self refers to the collection of ideas one holds about “who they are” - beliefs, attitudes, physicality, morals, values, skills, abilities, relationships etc. If you want to see (horrifyingly) how poorly defined a sense of self some people have, ask a borderline patient to answer on a piece of paper “who am I?”

Although you and I have clashed on other threads, I think you are spot on here. TRP men are very obsessed with appearance, and seem to have no idea that personality and behaviour account for a lot.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/01/25 04:54 AM
2

No, this is exactly what’s wrong with TRP. You should approach people as individuals, and seek to understand them on their own terms. If you find yourself surrounded by women who are “all like this” then the common denominator is you, and you have a problem.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/01/25 02:47 AM
1

I’m not sure what to say here other than your comment just seems to be misandry. I hate TRP because of how dehumanising it is to women; it seeks to explain “all women” (in the worst possible terms) - as if you could take anecdotal examples of individual women making bad choices and generalise to all women and use it as a pretext to view them all as garbage. Likewise, a statement like “men say so” is vapid. Have you spoken to every single man on the planet and they all say exactly the same thing?…

No, it absolutely does happen. She may have just got out of a relationship, be worried about or focusing on her career or studies, be looking after an unwell family member etc. I’ve never seen this observation on this sub (or Reddit?) but it’s a kind of implicit assumption of TRP that people (men or women) are always “switched on” to enter a relationship. I will only add that friendship to lovers need not be difficult; feelings do change, life is long, attraction is complex. Granted, given the assumptions about the worldview of the hypothetical people in your argument (TRP/manosphere), this conclusion makes sense. While your initial comment is thoughtful and articulate, I will chime in here to say that just because a guy burns the bridge doesn’t mean he didn’t value the relationship; sometimes rejection is very difficult, some people are more sensitive than others, he may have come to have very strong feelings and so on. Heartbreak can be a difficult thing to deal with; if he’s burning the bridge, but doing so in a respectful and peaceful manner (not insulting, abusing etc. ) then I think it is reasonable…

Look in honesty: I don’t blame the young guys (or really any guys) for latching onto a dehumanising value system; any culture that celebrates individualism at the expense of the essential lesson that you are part of something much, much greater than yourself - much greater than any one person could ever be - no matter how much that person is lauded in the pages of history, is going to creat…

Firstly: shout out to a mathematician! I majored in math, but I was nowhere near good enough at it to make a career from it; hence, psychiatry. Secondly: this is just the general form of many arguments I’ve seen on PPD recently. Some men think “all women” are [something]. Some women think “all men” are [something]. Then you watch the yelling start and all detail and nuance are lost; no one can consider something from someone else’s perspective, can understand that individuals make choices based …

This is a great metaphor because PPD has this obsession with “standards” like we are all placed in a line, and literally everything about your worth as a human being is reduced to one number. “Top 2% of men” is not a thing that exists. Literally does not exist except in sclerotic minds. It’s in your imagination. What is the difference between a 98th and a 99th percentile guy? Let me guess: money, height, etc. Fun fact: Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are not that tall! Are they greater than, less than……

Thank you for an articulate response! What marriage “is” on a superficial level (what it physically resembles) is drawn from the culture. Look, I can’t really speak to your grandfathers experience; it does not, at first glance, resemble a culture that is terribly fair to women. Maybe I’m wrong and the women are all totally cool with this, but once you cook in a certain culture for long enough, deprogramming those notions is going to be difficult. So. I’m a bit late to the party here, but let me offer my psychoanalytic take (that’s what I’m here for!) bonus: this one isn’t my idea, I claim no originality. What do you get out of porn? Wrong question. What does porn get you out of? Intimacy. There are false equivalencies I see on this thread to monogamy, this is wrong. If there is something you desire, talk to your partner. You must reflexively adapt to them physically and mentally, as they must to you[1]. The mistake married couples make is to…

While various proposals for financial abortion have been advocated for on PPD (from both sides) - and some of these I can even get behind, there are some men who are simply ill-equipped psychologically to be fathers. It is a shame, because many men would make perfectly great dads - if they tried. As for other commenters writing that “women don’t selected for men who would make good fathers” - this is in some ways accurate and in others false; there are many women who try to pick men who would be…

I am somewhat flabbergasted at the “should be working” remark. While I try to cross both lines and to argue what I think is rational, most of the disagreements I see on PPD can be summarised as: anger backed by anecdote forms terribly reductive worldview. Cue yelling and name calling. NB: this applies to red pillers and blue pillers who use the label to hide behind thinly veiled misogyny/misandry. This is a rare exception. How is she supposed to work while taking care of an infant? While I agree that there should be incentives for people to join the workforce, anyone who has ever tried to care for an infant knows that for at least several years it is simply infeasible to work and care for a child by oneself. Simultaneously, corporations simply do not offer enough maternity leave for the woman to take… several years off work. While it is absolutely an example of whataboutism, it does have relevance in that segments of both men and women can hold vile views. I did respond elsewhere in this post about the specific psychology of men who murder their partners for leaving them. I did read what you wrote, and you are correct in saying there are not two sides to manipulation. The two sides is a result of the fact that in the case of a male having romantic feelings for a female friend, this does not automatically imply manipulation. TRP men who call women monsters for not reciprocating feelings are not representative of all men, and obviously everyone’s circumstances and behaviour differs. You describe an accurate archetype of immature and narcissistic men, I am pointing …

Men who adopt TRP are typically driven by anger; even if they became hyper-desirable, the anger would not subside. This is bad because while this serves as a defence against being hurt (TRP is ultimately a defence mechanism) they have alienated themselves from love and intimacy.

This is “legal equality” only in a narrow… legalistic sense. This may anger some, but I do actually support the right of guys to “opt out of fatherhood” as a decision made before birth. On the other hand, it also needs to be recognised that the decision to terminate a pregnancy typically weighs very heavily on the woman; it is emotional and usually accompanied by some grief.

Asking to legalise prostitution so that men can have sex “with real women who want them” is an oxymoron and I hope you can see that. While I do think prostitution should be legal, most women who engage in sex work are not happy, and the sex work itself can be quite damaging. If you want to understand female desire, look at popular art (movies/television) that depict ideal female types at a younger age (Gen Z/teenagers) and written by women. What you typically see is more akin to the “Chad” arche…

This is very clearly untrue if you think about it for five seconds. Hypergamy* is not a thing, it’s not a psychological drive, and healthy people do not treat relationships as power struggles. I will concede “hypergamy” only in terms of modern dating dynamics and the (very broad) tendency of women to marry higher earning men. Again, this is a trend, many exceptions apply etc. but importantly, there is no biological or fundamental psychological drive to do this. Different women do this for differ…

There are two sides to this. What you describe is an accurate stereotype of many men (and women) but it is possible to have feelings for, and be attracted to, someone who does not reciprocate but wishes to be friends. The problem is that most people are not mature enough understand what to do in this state; you must respect your friends boundaries and commit to being friends. While I think your standards are fine, and in many cases practical, are you open to the possibility of falling in love with someone who doesn’t meet these standards? People may well understand (or not) that life isn’t fair, but I do not think this is the cause of a male loneliness epidemic. These young men become highly sensitive to rejection, and are unable to reframe things in a positive way; to see the good in their life, and to take action to change what they can control for th…

/r/PurplePillDebate03/01/25 04:13 PM
3

No, it is the former. The tendency here is to conflate two different unconscious belief systems; gaining male approval is expressed in the culture through superficial means (material possessions) or personality (male socialisation) - but will always lead to the sensation of alienation in the absence of female approval; gaining female approval is equivalent to “being loved” - and love has become unconsciously coupled to “masculinity” Your proposition represents a very real personality structure (…

It is the (subconscious) belief that “my value as a man is determined by what women think of me” Generally: “I am desired (I desire to be an object of desire)” You see this belief expressed in women who are constantly posting selfies on ig (if you want a gendered example for women) It is narcissism, all the way down. I will try and keep this short to get this post out quickly. I will also note that as much as I dislike supporting TRP ideas, there are many valid points here worth unpacking. I often find that immature women are often split their desire; I had a patient (50’s, married) who had an early 20’s mistress. He was very successful, and he purchased for her a very nice apartment. All was well, until it was discovered she was bringing her “boyfriend” (20’s) over. He seemed genuinely heartbroken. Needless to say: there was a lot to unpack on his end.

This is interesting because based on anecdote from many different contexts, I would agree that 26 is a cutoff, and I would also agree that that is pushing it. Culturally, telling women they are effectively unloveable after 30 is very damaging and in no way good for their mental health. While there may be a certain age range for both women and men where they are considered “most” attractive, the reality is that relationships need more than this. I will try to give a reasonable response. Hypergamy is a theory, and it’s always flaunted as being “the” mode of female mate selection. But it’s not a biological theory, it was introduced as a sociological theory to try and explain why some people are more desirable than others. But there’s no rigor here. This is a new level of retarded for red pill. They want to claim male desire is necessary by saying “women wouldn’t want a guy who was forced at gunpoint” and I think they genuinely don’t understand why this is idiotic.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/12/24 03:51 PM

“Women need men’s desire” - getting a forced handjob from a male celebrity is zero desire, sure. It’s sexual assault. “Would most women decline to sexually assault a man?” - yes, most would. This is not some fundamental truth of the female libido; barring sexual assault, two people need to come together for sex. They may have different levels of enthusiasm, but they both need some enthusiasm to get there. If the guy has zero desire, sex isn’t happening. This has zero bearing on whether the girl …

/r/PurplePillDebate29/12/24 03:36 PM

In that… if he continued to not like her, there would be no sex… because he does not like her. This isn’t difficult.

…it makes perfect sense? Plenty of guys just want to have sex, if she does too, great. If she wants a relationship, she’s going to need to weed out guys that aren’t looking for one. There’s an element of socialisation that comes into play here, too.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/12/24 03:29 PM

This is just insane: “she into him because she hopes he’ll come around…” of course she hopes he’ll like her, but that’s not why she likes him.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/12/24 02:40 PM

She hopes a guy she likes will like her back? Oh those crazy, crazy women!!

I’ll put this here because it’s very relevant, and I think my comment is a little too far down. The most common male fantasy is cuckolding, and the most common female fantasy is the bad boy turned good.

In psychiatry, the most common fantasies are: Men: cuckolding Women: the bad boy who turns good just for me I’ll leave that there. Draw your own conclusions.

“You like a guy so much you won’t have sex with him for months…” Yes, because from her perspective she risks nothing by sleeping with the guy she doesn’t like. If he thinks less of her, so what? And she didn’t want to see him again anyway. Men get this confused because for a lot of us, the apotheosis of a relationship is the first time we have sex; that’s the marker that she’s “into” us. It’s just a matter of seeing things from her angle; that if she actually does sense there’s a potential relat…

“There’s no masculine equivalent to feminism” As far as a politics of masculinity is concerned? As a mode of operationalising those politics? There absolutely is. Hint: look at the sub. Even as a set of principles and values, there exists a counter-point to feminism. There’s no academic equivalent, but… I wouldn’t define how most women operationalise feminism to be academic. “we just act our nature” It’s an intrinsic part of our nature to enter aggressive text strings into reddit.com ? There is fairness to this allusion; for what it’s worth, the men’s rights movement do actually hold some good positions (albeit with no political power) I will say though that both can attract disaffected men and serve as magnets for misogynists. Again, similar to feminism for women. You are correct in implying that beyond that, there is not much similarity.

What is going on with your friendships that these are the people you’re friends with? Seriously. I have never had an issue like the one you’re describing; not with women or men.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/12/24 07:49 AM

Can you give an example of said petty, inconsequential shit? I will agree that women tend to veer more agreeable than men, but… even if we assume this to be true, this does not explain the dating climate. It does not “explain women’s behaviour” or offer any predictive power. Women are as self-aware as men; if a given woman is behaving badly and rationalising it, that’s on her. Bad guys also have excuses for their behaviour.

I think people that are cool with really getting violent with their kids are doing so for very different reasons than just frustration after overexposure. Everyone gets fed up, few take the next step of punching someone one third their size.

Men get rejected by women, are unable to cope, and find a ready made philosophy that explains why women are evil. Look, I have a lot of female friends, and this is not “how they are” There are interesting differences in how they socialise in groups and discuss things, but TRP has no explanatory power beyond the trivial. There are absolutely women of the vein that TRP describe, but I don’t know why you would want to be with them.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/12/24 07:14 AM

A self-esteem “cost” is only incurred if the only thing you desire is to be desired. If you treat dating as a matter of finding mutual compatibility, then it’s mutual rejection. I get dating can be exhausting, and we all want to be liked, but come on. People do not exist in a linear hierarchy. This is silly.

I like to think that in a far flung future, “can women even feel love?” will be a meme used to mock our present anxieties.

TRP gives a kind of face to male anxieties in the current dating climate. It’s the trendier and hipper cousin to the “men’s rights movement” Feminism is now so broad, that yes, misandrists wind up here too. Similar: female anxieties regarding dating. Both sets encompass people that are distrustful and resentful of people on the other side, but underneath it all is pain and rejection. TRP actually gives decent advice regarding specific behaviours - if you were to ask me, “how could I be more attr…

I think this is where the “investment” term could use a little more precision. Look, people are complex, and if she likes him as a friend it’s possible feelings may develop. But if she isn’t physically attracted to him, then no, him “trying hard” is in some sense not going to change that in the short term. I agree. But he will well end up being attracted to some girl who actually will be willing to give him a shot, and at that point, if he does nothing and puts in no effort, he will just be hurt…

That is objectifying and fetishising: she becomes an object (you do not conceive of her as a human being) and the locus of sexual desire is placed on one part (her ass) Look, objectifying can be fun to an extent: we’ve all done it. And it’s context dependent; complimenting someone on a body part may be encouraged (the club) and discouraged by the same person (the workplace) This becomes an issue only when you lose sight of how and why we do it; don’t ignore the human being. Edit: yes I like CS L…

“…don’t treat people like things” is entirely incompatible with red pill philosophy. Is, in fact, the point: women are dehumanised. Reduced to machines.

While I spend most of my time on this sub defending women, I will note that women are roughly equally as likely as men to commit domestic violence against children. Thus, offering some support to the “opportunities for violence” hypothesis. Or at least the “children can be annoying/overwhelmed by parenting” hypothesis. It has also been noted that women are far more likely to engage in social ostracism (proactive aggression) than physical violence (more-ish reactive aggression) So some interestin…

There’s some over-intellectualised comments here; let me break it down very simply (heteronormative style): 1) Being in love feels amazing. 2) Sex is great fun. And once puberty hits, there’s no going back.

Very bizarre example. Would we be able to get an example that isn’t just “women appear to be submissive”?

No, my point is - and this is so basic most people would want to avoid it - why is this the problem you care about? On some level, conscious or subconscious, this is what you care about. And RP might claim to “simplify” the problem, but my issue is their particular reductive logic is wrong, like, many counter-examples wrong. And yet still, it gets flaunted as being some kind of universal, inviolate truth. For 3000 years of written word, we have made very little progress in reducing human psychol…

I fear that much misogyny marches under the banner of red pill, in the same way that much misandry has been rebranded as feminism. And it’s sad. At its heart, there are many very hurt people who just want to be loved.

There are absolutely a subset of feminists that believe all men are evil. The unfortunate reality is that people of both genders are willing to demonise each other.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/12/24 03:49 AM

This is exactly why RP is wrong: an entire gender is not inherently evil.

While many of the individual behaviours team RP advocates for are in fact “good” (for various reasons) at least some of this effect is generated by giving adherents a sense of control over their respective situations. What is categorically bad about RP, is how incredibly dehumanising it is to women; women are treated as hyper-simplistic objects, governed by no more than a handful of animalistic desires and denied absolutely any moral agency at all. An anecdote of a shitty woman is generalised to…

Yes you’re right; in that sense it’s similar to the drive behind a lot of girls posting selfies to Instagram; being desired is what is most desirable. It’s not actually having sex, or enjoying spending money or whatever, it’s just other people wanting you.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/12/24 12:55 AM

FYI this also covers the “rebranded as people” - that’s not being high maintenance, that’s having a poorly defined sense of self. Again: you talk, you spend time, you understand.

No, it wouldn’t bother me at all. You’d find that out by just talking to them and getting to know them better.

Because that’s the type: what you might broadly call “high maintenance” They behave/dress/appear a certain way because on some level, this is who they want to be. I’m attracted to them because on some level this is who I want to be with (the “why” of that would need an entire essay). And they accept dates from me because again, I appear a certain way. The difficult/(easy?) part is actually getting to know someone, and seeing if your personalities vibe and you have chemistry together. But again, …

Sure! Everyone is attracted to different people; one of my main issues with the red pill community is its reductive view of women/people; the filter the world gets viewed through is: “how hot is she out of 10?” People don’t work like this. While I agree there can be broad cultural consensus on markers of physical beauty, I think these markers are actually just that: cultural. If it was really an objective (by which people really just mean: genetic) metric, then it would not explain the extraordi…

This may be unpopular I think, but here goes: I always pay, for everything. And I gift generously too. The money is not an issue, and I would rather put high effort in than low effort. Maybe think, “what kinds of girls do I attract?” and “who am I attracted to?” The answers to these questions usually clears up what you should be doing. (And also: “Is what I desire good for me?” - if you’re really feeling like a deep dive…) In my case it began as behaviour to conform to gender norms, but as per t…

This is it, the part that’s never said out loud, and never consciously examined. RedPiller’s aren’t coherent except for one defining idea: a man’s worth is determined by what women think of him. RP’s don’t really have an understanding of people or relationships, hence the reductive logic: “all women really want is…” where height and money may be quantifiable, muscle mass… sure. But “attraction” is not, cannot really, ever be defined. A dynamic process of getting to know someone, and being unders…

The details of that parental care, eg. what does parental care actually entail in a pragmatic sense? OP’s concern I think is with his (perceived) inequality of the legal -> financial burden placed on men. “Parental care” here is exactly that, and only that eg. a man who never misses child support payments, but is emotionally unavailable is providing perfect “parental care” under this definition. I believe OP is asking for a reexamination of those legal and financial details. It is more subtle th…

“Should” be? Why? A major issue for OP is the nature of the very real and extant legal obligations; those obligations being financial in nature with the also very real possibility of causing genuine hardship. We agree that children do have (positive) rights, but “obligations” in this case to the service of those rights (from the original argument made by OP) refer specifically to legal obligations; it is the details of those (legal) obligations that are under examination. One could ask, assuming…

Except they are obligated by law; hence the contradiction here. You seem to take as a first principle the positive rights to parental care, but as an anarchist, I’m unsure what this rests upon.

And if they did not create them?
/r/PurplePillDebate21/12/24 04:27 AM

There is no requirement to support except via law; hence the debate: is this law fair? I agree; we could we be more rigorous and nuanced in our use of words. “Enslaved” is not entirely unwarranted; men do end up in prison, perhaps “imprisoned” would have the finesse you’re looking for?
/r/PurplePillDebate21/12/24 04:24 AM

Legal rights do in pragmatic effect financially “enslave” someone who may not have any desire for the child to be born. A child is not granted, from first principles, any rights to an existence it did not consent to; these (legal) rights are constructed through norms (the social contract) based on compassionate grounds. Note that at various points in history social norms regarding infants have differed (eg. the practice of eugenics in Sparta) While I hope we can all agree that children should be…
