I had to cut off both my mother and my sister last year so this has been rough for me too. I don’t lie. Oh my gosh you’re so right. The ones controlling the media and subs that ban for that stuff are making the left side masses think they are a much larger proportion than they are by filtering the engagement.

Traditions run deep. And guilt can lie dormant, then reappear. I was raised Christian and am marrying a Muslim man. He prays every morning and fasts for Ramadan but we drink occasionally and live together. During Ramadan, we abstain from the haram things. (Our American wedding is in a few months but we are doing the nikah very soon. I am letting him decide when he is ready.) Perhaps OP’s ex just wanted to be closer to his faith during the holy month.
