I think it's because "incel culture" has given rise to our newer understanding of incels as the toxic group, rather than the original definition of simply "involuntary celibates." Being an incel by the original definition in that I am a virgin despite not wanting to be, who does not align with mainstream incel culture, I can attest to the importance of the distinction between them.

This wasn't so much an "event" per se, but it remains one of the most sexist things I've personally witnessed in my school life. At college, there was a program offered to support female victims of rape. Of course, supporting victims of rape is a great thing, but I guess male victims don't matter.
