In any case, even if we assume a "harem" type environment, in which "Alphas" had most of the sex, that does not mean that "Beta" males went without sex. Something akin to "Anarchy", or at least a reverse dominance hierarchy, has been the norm for 99% of our history. So I think we need to at least pay consideration to those values. What allowed us to survive for all those years? Not hierarchy. At least not institutional hierarchy. Perfect "equality" is of course a myth and not desirable.
