I do think statistics often get manipulated to downplay men's problems, but this isn't one of those for me. I don't know where you are, but the definition you gave for homelessness has been the one used by HUD in the united states for quite some time. Having been homeless myself, I also agree with the multiple definitions. Unsheltered homelessness and sheltered homelessness are VERY different things, that (imo) both need to be delineated, tracked, and treated separately. People living in student…

The need to work harder than others is just part and parcel of being a POC/immigrant/poor. I think we're pushed to hustle harder and more often than born/white americans bc it's harder to fulfill the provider role if individual people and systems are actively trying to prevent you getting a job/work visa/degree/housing/living wage. So I think there is (or at least I feel) more pressure to work and pay my own way than I think a lot of white folks do, especially at the middle and upper class rungs…

I was going to say this exact thing. My sister would negg me for leaving my clothes on the floor in my own room but littered all her makeup and hygiene products across the counter, drawers, and floor. I had to rinse foundation out of the sink every day that ended in a y but if she saw one beard hair in there the whole house got a free ticket to her standup roast of me and my work ethic. If it doesn't affect them, some women really don't see how their lax cleaning/organising habits get in other p…

Yes, I'm hopeful these beliefs start to shift in the near future. Thanks

I didn't say they're all bad people, I said I have yet to meet someone of that demographic that doesn't have conservative opinions on trans people. I'm aware they exist. I'm also aware that they're exceedingly rare in my experience and that the greater majority of cis white women need to be called out on their racist/classist/sexist beliefs and challenged to fix them.

I'm a man, it's the same misandrist "all men are evil" bs that this sub talks about that many of them are peddling about transmen

^ what he said. I'm gay, binary trans, and black and of those who know I'm trans (most don't), the people who've been the most tolerant and unbothered about it are straight white men, a few other identities, and then white lesbians dead last. I've yet to meet a white cis woman with an opinion of trans people that's more progressive than "I'm gonna pretend I don't see that".

I didn't say transphobia is always misogyny. In fact, I explicity said trans misandry IS a real and growing phenomenon that harms transmen and attacks them for being men. Don't twist my words please and thanks. What I did say is that many forms of misogyny coming from TERFs are directed at transpeople, regardless of their gender, as attacks against the victims perceived failure to adhere to a proper feminine gender role.

I kind of agree. TERFS generally see all transpeople as varying shades of failed women, ranging from "not real women" (transwomen) to "women who need to be saved" (transmen) hence the reason the term transmisogyny applies to both groups. There's a common hatred of something deemed to be corrupted femininity, regardless of the person's gender. I think transmisandry isn't quite developed enough to be named yet, but will be in the near future. I've already experienced it plenty in trans circles, on…

It's not safer. More men are victims of violent crimes at night than women in a number of american cities. Not true in every locale obv but it's an assumption based on stereotypes, biology, and various historical bogeymen (read: non-white males) that women are less safe at night than men.

I feel like most complaints about the patriarchy fall apart very quickly once you include all men and not just the top 10%. Getting high-paying, cushy jobs, getting away with sexual assault/harrassment, getting STEM degrees, owning more property, etc. Those advantages are conferred primarily to men of high social status and wealth. Even if you just remove white men with college degrees from the equation, those advantages go up in smoke real quick and suddenly being a woman looks much better on p…

The other thing that annoys me about that statement is that the women who say that generally don't live in sex-segregated cities. The women who act as though all men are rapists often ignore the fact that they themselves have fathers, husbands, brothers, sons, boyfriends, male coworkers, male friends, male landlords, etc. On numbers alone, if all men know at least 10 rapists, all women would also know several and yet they don't say jack about who they are or cut those men out of their lives, or …

I saw that post earlier today and thought it might fit in nicely for discussion here. I don't think it's a cruel expectation, but I do think it's selfish and irresponsible. Selfish for the reasons OP mentioned and irresponsible because I believe that both partners are responsible for themselves and their respective bodies. There are all kinds of birth control: hormonal, non-hormonal, long-term, short-term, permanent, reversible, and types that can be used by one partner or both. I don't believe …

I don't know, but that's why I'm here. I got banned from menslib without notice at some point, no warning, no mod message, nothing at all. Don't even know when, I just tried to view a post from there that had been linked here and got the "you're not allowed to see this" page. I think they just blanket ban all members of this sub to avoid having us bring any discussion of actual mens issues over there.

FYI cisgender means someone whose sex and gender are the same, so anone who is not trans is cis. Straight means you're sexually attracted to people of the opposite sex.

While I don't know if there's much men can do to convince moderate feminist women to challenge or correct this "rock throwing", I do think action from men may not be necessary. There was a post here recently about misandry in LGBT+ spaces and I've noticed that rhetoric having the effect of turning some cis and trans men and queer women quite critical of feminism. Many of the women trying to create division in the gay community are the same women who use gay men as tokens, are openly homophobic t…

The part that gets me about this idea is that if every man knew a rapist, there would be so many that every WOMAN would also know several. We're not a sex-separated society. These fictional rapist friends wouldn't ONLY interact with men, they'd have sisters, moms, girlfriends, wives, and daughters too who also knew them...and therefore knew rapists.

I think part of the issue is we're all adults. We know that sex exists, we know what it is, and many of us have been taught to be ashamed, tongue-in-cheek, or just private about it even if we are comfortable with, and even proud of sexuality and expressions of it. Genitals are not inherently sexual in my view. Can they be? Obviously, yes. But they're just one of many body parts at the end of the day. Children who don't know and don't care what sex is wouldn't see a semi-sentient penis as anythin…

As I understand it, paper abortions are when a person chooses to terminate their legal parental rights and any obligations to the child. For example, if a man has a paper abortion, he would sign away his parental rights over the child and not be obligated to pay child support, visitations, share his insurance coverage with the child, or claim the child as a dependent for tax purposes. It's mostly for the non-carrying parent, though both men and women can benefit from them and some people carry o…

I'm right there with you, I would also prefer to be seen as weak than a threat to be eliminated. To be clear, I don't mean to suggest that it's worse for a woman to be seen as weak than it is for a man to be seen as evil in any way. What I mean is that getting rid of the idea that women are weak and acknowledging that they are not wonderful can help to protect men and others who they target from the perception of being more threatening and problematic than women. If we acknowledge the capacity f…

I think it's primarily a hatred of men but with the added belief that women are too weak and impotent to cause real harm. I think modern feminists would spin it to say that women are just better than men and too holy to hurt anyone, even if they could, but I don't think the origin of the idea is purely hatred of men. I think the belief that women are too weak to hurt anyone is part of why we also have the myth that women can't rape and that they are always at the whims of men in their lives--it …

I don't think it's that much of a stretch. The way I see it, the women are wonderful effect does stem from misogyny. If women are perceived as cute, helpless things to collect and have sex with, then they will always be good because they're just objects. Objects don't have the agency to hurt people, or do things you don't want them to, or make decisions you don't like or be too (insert personal quality here). The perception may be (and is) wrong of course, but it makes sense to me that misogynis…

I'm sorry that this was done to you and I know it must be painful. I want to share this because it's not often talked about and I know many men like yourself who wish they had not been cut against their will. There are methods of restoring the foreskin in men who have been cut by stretching the skin of the shaft along the scar line to induce regrowth. If you search for manual foreskin restoration you can find methods and results for it, I don't know the rules for providing links here but I'd be …

I saw some of those posts as well. Just wanted to add some additional perspective of what I've seen within trans circles as well. These are generalisations of course, and thankfully they tend to diminish greatly once you leave the internet, but they persist nonetheless. I personally believe that misandry is a large contributor to the lack of visibility of trans men. As often as trans men have to deal with being treated as women, the man label still makes the triumphs and struggles of trans men b…

I haven't heard of this system before, but my assumption is that if this existed, it would have only been available to women who didn't have a male to rely on, thus the "welfare" part. Such as widowers, single women, divorcées, etc. If it was a thing that was open to all women that would certainly poke some holes and raise questions, especially for first wave feminist ideas.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
