The sad thing is that a lot of people during that time didn't care about POWs or men being tortured in the service of their country. To be honest it's possible that his POW status caused the judge to give such a shitty judgement. Vietnam troops were frowned upon by many, and due to the unpopularity of the war the idiotic public vented their anger on the troops. You should, but I've met many people (both male and female) that seem to think reproductive agency belongs solely to the female. It's alarming that there are people out there that think like this. What I heard from one of the head developers of the male birth control pill is that the project was totally shut down by the feminist lobby, even after R&D was finished and test showed no signs of prevalent or serious side effects. Apparently men being having easy access to medical contraception oppresses women or something like that. Most of the people on this subreddit (and reddit in general) are University age. That means that a large proportion of women that they meet are going to be progressive and radically liberal, while trying to display an intellectual persona. Like I said in my comment above, I don't think all babies should be circumcised, but I feel that saying a blanket statement like "It's a Human Rights Violation - end of discussion" really isn't an appropriate thing to do.
