Help men not women is not a great rule. It is when you take into account the risks that come with attempting to help a woman who doesn't know you. Case in point, there are a ton of videos online of men attempting to help women in the gym getting recorded and posted online and being labelled gym creeps. Men have to walk on eggshells around women they don't know in order to not "offend" them and get falsely accused.
