Way of Men has been one of the best resources for understanding why I'm "not a man." When read and applied, it gave me an actual lens for evaluating myself and other men. Can not recommend it enough.

Ive got a theory about oneitis being a potentially positive experience in which all of a man's faults and fears come roaring to the surface. Some part of the psyche needs to be actively worked on and healed; the ONE is used as a sort of bandaid that provides relief to some issue, but ultimately just keeps any sort of real healing in stasis. Band aid goes, boom, open wound. The person either does the right thing and dives into why they're experiencing those emotions or stands still in pity until …

Ego investment. I've devoted X time to get Y reward. Admiting that X time was a waste and actually counterproductive to Y reaching fruition is inconceivable to a self image. Naturally, it retalliates against a threat and the person enters denial.

Fair enough. I've never done shrooms, so I can't account for those. However, aya pulled me out of being miserable 24/7 and aspergery, if that makes sense. The retreats have trip sitters that watch over and guide individuals out of bad trips, as well as help interpret them. Just in case you ever feel like giving up again -- may as well try everything.

If OP is going the drug route: he may as well go to an ayahuasca retreat.
