Hey man, I really appreciate your post. I went through a phase of doing this, and I can vouch for what you're saying--it totally changed how I interacted with people. Unfortunately, I slipped out of it. While it is relaxing, at the same time, paradoxically, it takes a lot of effort--especially as I have tendency to inner monologue and overanalyse. Eventually, I stopped trying, mainly because I got too busy for it. Again, I can definitely vouch for what you're saying. Wish it came more naturally …

Yeah I think the answer to approach anxiety is probably more rooted in our biology than environement

Yes, that is certainly a more defensible position to take and I don't doubt that there is an element of truth to it. I also imagine that people were just more social in times past--they didn't have fun things that they could do indoors alone--which would allow them more experience with interaction. It's funny because I don't think things are worse today for our having playstation games and the internet--after all we do choose to use these things instead of socialising--but at the same time I thi…

So pre-WW1, males weren't worried about asking out so and so's daughter to the local barn dance? The story you tell is a good one, but I don't have any reason to believe this generation is any more scaredy cat than any previous ones

Man, I'm envious. Wish I had the money/courage to go travelling alone. Often listen to Willie Nelson when I am walking to and from University. I imagine this is the tune I will be listening to when I finally take off and see the world outside my textbooks. Enjoy your travels, and listen to Willie Nelson for me when you've set off

THIS is among the worst. He repeatedly asks where this woman works, not picking up on the fact that she does not want to tell him--for a reason. He has a huge trouble reading social cues. Got to feel sorry for him. The reason he is not advancing is because he cannot adapt his behaviour to responses. Everyone says something inappropriate now and again, but they learn not to repeat that same mistake by the feedback they get, be that via facial expressions, tone of voice, body language, etc. As an …

Well, he does have balls...but it also takes balls to go and swim with sharks or bunjee jump, or to run through the streets naked, etc. But people only do that kind of stuff because they're adrenaline junkies--I thought the people in this sub wanted sex/romance, not an adrenaline rush... Seems as though, in defence of this guy, everyone is trying to shift the goalposts: ah, they say, while it may appear that he totally failed, he actually succeeded--after all, does not he balls? Yes he does have…

I got your post, OP. An equivalent would be people in /r/singing saying "yes, the people on the X Factor auditions suck, but that shouldn't deter you from putting yourself on stage--but not without practising first!

I don't endorse the sentiment in the above comment. I am just illustrating what a TRP person would say to make the point that there is not a lot of agreement between the various online dating gurus

By extension of your logic, is it also alpha to let her dress you? To let her pick your career? To let her decide the details of your finances?

"I dont know what would be more polite, to invite you up or not to." I don't know what to believe anymore if this line really does work. Most people say that being assertive works (at least the people over at the infamous red pill), but this line seems about the furthest away from "alpha" one could get. It is riddled with self-doubt, and it puts the ball in the girl's court. Someone from the "assertive works" camp would probably suggest something totally opposite, along the lines of Come upstair…

I hate to be a killjoy, but this guy is almost certainly lying. What kind of on-duty police officer would hand out her number like that? Before you answer, consider that the alleged conversation occurred in front of red traffic lights in London, meaning there would be plenty of other vehicles around. And what do people invariably do when they see a police officer talking to anyone? They look. Also, consider the fact that she was speaking to him at the behest of other drivers' complaints. Thus, w…

What the hell does you being a physicist have to do with it? The question of "which species is the best?" is an entirely subjective one, meaning everyone is equally qualified to answer it.

I actually got my first "action" by being the wasted loser. This chick I had been into for a while spent the whole night holding my hand. Once I sobered up, I got my first kiss. Of course, that was when I was 15. I actually believe because of my relationships back then that TRP doesn't apply until a certain age, because I was beta as shit and still got action. It was only until I hit about 17-18 that girls started to want someone who was alpha (not me).

I know what you mean. I always have this little part of me that thinks I must be acting because of that, no matter how much I've drunk. That's why I have never bought into the "don't blame me; I was drunk!" line.

Making yourself emotionally vulnerable to someone shows rock-bottom neediness of their response I don't buy that. One of the hallmarks of neediness is emotional vulnerability. Someone who is needy makes his happiness (emotions) entirely dependent on his romantic interest. And yet you're saying the opposite.

I had a girlfriend for a year, and I don't think I ever managed to pay her a compliment without having to preface it with 'i am not being sarcastic.' My voice is very deadpan and non-sincere sounding; that 'limit' exists in more than just my mind unfortunately.

"Well, isn't that a cute dress" I told her. She agreed, and I made some snarky comment about how it'd look better on me. She responded by agreeing - though, it was riddled in sarcasm. Then, I remarked, "well, if not on me, I'm sure it'd look great on the floor." I could never say this or anything like it without it coming out sounding very forced or very creepy. Kudos to you, I guess, for having the personality to pull this off.

As you rightly stated, I am not anti-TRP or whatever; in fact, I think there are a lot of valuable insights offered by the community. As for the accusation of a double standard: I know that TRP teaches men to be the best they can, and obviously getting fat isn't included in that. What I was really getting at is that there is usually a lot more sympathy for (beta) men who have let themselves go and are suffering the price than there is for this woman. I guess that's just because we are (mostly) m…

I see your problem with it. However, compensatory behaviors definitely do tip the balance in the man's favour with some women for a while, hence why women post in /r/relationships about not liking their do-gooder boyfriends (key word being boyfriend). Maybe it is best to keep the SMV as something distinct, however. As you suggested, it is a product of the unconscious. In that case, compensatory behaviors never add to SMV, but simply act as a separate factor for consideration by the woman, alongs…

I don't want to do it, but I am interested to know. Imagine if I was telling you a story about doing meth, but I wouldn't tell you its name out of fear that you might do it if only you had the name. Yeah, that's good advice. I guess I am just trying to weave together as coherent an image as I can from all the different posts. Guess it's up to the reader to resolve any conflicts he finds between writers.

I agree that author 1 is playing it a little fast and loose with the facts there. As for this distinction you're making between idealised and unonditional love: aren't they the same thing? The make belief aspect is that it could be unconditional.

Rationalmale is not saying 'it won't last'; rather, he is saying that the mere notion is incomprehensible to ANY female (including one's mother). Is this consistent with other writers? I want to get the majority view, hence the post. EDIT: Sorry, didn't read your comment thoroughly obviously. You asked 'what does it matter?' I would just say for clarity of thought. The most fundamental aspect of TRP is this conflict between the two concepts of the relationship/love. The details need to be clear.…

So you disagree with the rationalmale, who says that even one's mother is incapable of this kind of love?

Exactly, I concede that part. But rationalmale seems to be saying that women are incapable, as in, they couldn't play this role for even one minute.

To compare yourself with others is necessary only to define relative success. For example, if I build a telephone, my relative success is determined by my place in history and the past achievements of my peers, i.e., whether or not I was the inventor. However, the type of success to which HappyJerk is referring is dependent on nothing but the self. It derives from the fulfillment of personally-defined goals. To continue the example, if in the year 2014, I create a telephone, my relative success …

I am personally content with my dating life, though I do not follow TRP. I find it more interesting as a sociological study of men vs. women etc. There's a lot of folk truth (and humour) in TRP and its associated manosphere, though I would personally feel uncomfortable implementing its suggestions on how to 'play the game' with more success, as I believe in being true to my inner monologue, i.e., I will not act in a way contrary to my feelings, even if perhaps a better outcome could be achieved …

What about the analogy that compares TRP to make up for men? It is simply about impersonating the successful man. If TRP's advice was just: 'women like success. Be successful', it would not be very popular. It provides a short cut. Sure, it encourages attempts towards success, but the core message is 'while you attempt to learn to play the guitar, try acting like you are already Slash'. NOTE: I'm not saying it doesn't work. I haven't actually tried it myself, but I have done SOME reading.

Don't worry. I certainly do not use TRP as an instruction manual. Is there ever a point where you act out, just from emotional impulse? And when he 'stands strong' against that, doesn't it feel scripted? You know that this is not him. He is not a natural alpha. He is a guy who gets dating advice from the internet... EDIT: ...which is fine. But the point of TRP is to trick women into thinking you're something that you aren't. That you're successful, strong, confident. The people who read TRP do s…

Your current boyfriend introduced you to the Red Pill? Hmm. Doesn't that make all his behaviour a little bit too predictable? A lot of TRP people really like to play by the 'book', and so I would think that you could pretty much predict his every reaction to you, with just a little bit of reading. Must make his actions seem kind of hollow, knowing that they are the mere result of obedience to online instructions. Why on earth did he give the instruction manual over to his girlfriend?

I agree. OP, join the manosphere. Keep everyone updated on your progress, archive your past through pics etc. I think there would be real interest in a well-written and genuine documentation of the beta to alpha story.

I don't know about this. I agree with the TRP principles, but I also value privacy and feel like that's crossing a line. When the cops break in without a warrant, no matter what they find, there's no justification for it. Same applies. He should probably just leave her.

Interesting read, and I thank you for writing it. Nobody tells men what they really have to do to maintain a successful relationship with a woman, much less get lucky once or twice. I agree that TRP certainly provides great insights for hooking up, but it never even attempts to rectify this problem that you've identified: he female mind can rationalize a lot of things that would make your average male sick to his stomach, and in the current climate of no shame, no guilt, and no incentive to be h…

There are definitely real parallels between the two. I must admit that a small part of me believes I am going to meet a perfect woman, but then a small part of me (even as an atheist) thinks that there might be something waiting after death.
