In the time of OP's post (referenced) patriarchal government was law or defacto. That means that there was no way for a woman to take power even if she wanted to. Your numbers are inaccurate as far as the deaths, they don't hold up to any death toll statistics for the war at all. Around 450000 died in the United States (my memory don't quote me) and the war itself was of significantly higher statistics with Russia alone clocking in at around 23 million. *Edit A quick search on the web clocks the entire wars number around 80 million. Women legally didn't have the same fundamental rights as men in that point in American history. Social structure or power in the household is of no comparison to literally not being legally equal.
