So basically: it was one of those things where I would say "I'm not sure I can do this anymore, (insert issue here) is really wearing on me" as a way to open up the way for conversation and he took that as a full-scale breakup. I've only actually broken up with him once. It's stupid. But it's what happened.

Yeah. He's already started trying to rationalize with me("I showed you when I came over how much I cared! I haven't even spoken to her since our last fight!") but I just told him "You set a deadline for yourself and didn't meet it. Thanks. Again, everyone on this post has been correct. No matter how much he denies it he has repeatedly put her first and that shows where his loyalties lie. I guess a good rule of thumb for me would be to judge a captain by his actions and not by his words. Lesson learned.
