Note: Sociopaths and psychopaths are not the same thing. For the purposes of this post, they are close enough to be treated as one. The DSM V states the difference being an environment or genetic source. And that the basis for determining whether it's one or the other is contentious and not widely agreed upon. Great post.

No two people are the same and modern medicine tries to recognise this. The DSM V is useful in providing a clear way of using these terms while accepting the limited and contentious nature of them. But it will always be limited by being forced to provide clear definitions for insurance and forensic purposes. I think psychodynamic literature is more effective at capturing the nuances of behaviour and character: psychopathy is a spectrum of behavioural functioning, some of us high on it, some of u…

On the flip side, this female teacher was imprisoned despite it not being possible to charge a woman with rape in NZ, and despite the perpetrator's own history of being abused. Frankly I'm not comfortable with the whiny "woe is me, life isn't fair" aspect of TRP. I like the aspect of TRP that calls for men and women to grow up, take responsibility for what we can, forget what we can't, accept what we must.

What a nightmare of a justice system you have.

This is a really good book that focuses on female orgasm: Douglas, Marcia and Douglas, Lisa (1997): The Sex You Want. New York, Marlowe & Co. It has a fairly hardcore feminist approach (of the academic variety) which may be shocking to some. The first half of the book covers various psycho-social aspects of orgasm, the second half largely focuses on the physical.

Eating disorders aren't necessarily a body image issue either.

I suggest abandoning blame altogether. Everything has a cause. And all humans are evolved organisms doing the best they can with the resources they have available.

You might as well not be human if you're average. I agree. Why would you settle for being average? Being human is an exceptional thing, celebrate that. I'm certainly not interested in anyone who is acutely aware of (and thus projects) their averageness.

She's only as accountable if he holds her to account. If this guys wants anything different it's only him who can do something about it.

In NZ it's moot. If you live with a person for 3 years and don't come to an alternative agreement, you're effectively married as far as most things are concerned. But our laws are a bit more pragmatic when it comes to child support and the like, lawyers and judges don't get to decide, it's all pre-calculated: http://www.ird.govt.nz/calculators/tool-name/tools-c/calculator-assessment-childsupport.html A lot of the crazy things that go down and are discussed here are as much to do with the local l…

It's only in lay-feminism that men and women are considered the same. Contemporary feminists from a social science background probably understand things differently. It's more about the power each of us have (regardless of gender or any other attributes) and how we use it, particularly in relation to vulnerability.

The fantastic insight I refer to is men finding their own role in their problems. Don't mistake men in pain looking to blame their circumstances on someone else with men looking to take responsibility for their own role in perpetuating their circumstances. Any sub is a disparate collection of people rather than any kind of coherent organisation. What any sub "wants" is a fairly abstract concept.

Absolutely. There are some fantastically insightful posts here, and there's tripe. And that's probably true about what I have to say as well.

Anyone who tells you they are a feminist are feminist like Westboro Baptist are Christian. Unless you are pushing to stop women from voting, you are a feminist too. If you are demanding that women have power over men, you are not a feminist, you are crazy.

Fascinating post, I like it. I would like to point out that a helpful therapist will not simply tell a man to forgive a cheating woman. Many will of course, depending on the (your?) local culture and values. Many however will simply work with what's within the man's power, focus on their role in the relationship, their needs, and what was it about them that led to having a cheating partner. Not in the sense of "you didn't give her enough hugs so she went elsewhere" but more of a "what is it abou…

In New Zealand law if you live together for three years and don't come to some other legal agreement, you are effectively common law married and assets will be split upon separation.

Genuine bi-polar disorder is a neurological disorder, not a developmental on. Just saying.
