When the shots are more appropriate, I personally would typically choose to give it as 2 shots, each mixed with a numbing agent, and advise the patient that they will have to endure 2 sticks that will be uncomfortable or 1 stick that will really hurt,and so it's going to be 2 sticks in 2 different muscles. It's because the shot is one&done treatment but the course of pills is multiple doses, taken at home, where the patient may not take them correctly, at the right time or right food recommendation, may skip doses or may not finish them all. That could lead to drug resistant strains, and unchecked community spreading.
