Does blatant misogyny help the rights of men somehow? Did someone ask you to pontificate about how much you hate all women?

These comments are chock full of copium and a gross misunderstanding of gender in our society. Men’s Rights are important because men suffer in our society in a few ways that are specific to our gender. The reason the world mostly dislikes or laughs at MRA’s is because the vast majority of you have no academic understanding of the machinations of our society. Most of you blame women, feminism, and leftists for the very personal ans anecdotal ways you’re angry, and then pretend that anger is for …

I have 3 girls and I’m glad I have 3 girls. Raising a kind, successful, well adjusted young man is more difficult in this world than it is to raise kind, successful, well adjusted young women.

Well at least we have established that you don’t know what the patriarchy is. The Patriarchy is a society established by men, governed by laws written by and intended for men as the default human being, where men face fewer barriers than women in regard to ascending to positions of power / influence. This creates a lot of problems for both men and women.

It’s just logic. Why have men penned essentially every law and held essentially every position of power and influence if not for a patriarchy?

Your position is predicated on a gross misunderstanding of what a patriarchy is and what “privilege” means in the social context. Given that most world leaders and CEOs are men, nearly all billionaires are men, essentially all religious and military leaders are men, and most judges and every US president has been a man; is an undeniable set of circumstances that present us with 2 possible causes. Men are superior to women Men have few barriers that prevent them from attaining power Scientific ev…

I responded to a person who stated a lot of insight. And this is a hilarious ironic demand from the person who made the original post, which is completely devoid of any insight. Your red pill manosphere misogyny shouldn’t go unchallenged or exist without ridicule. You’re an idiot and they things you’ve said are as incorrect as they are regressive for the rights of men.

“Benefits AND advancement” were your words. Billions of people exist in a contentment that does not require advancement. Romantic relationships do not exist to provide you with advancement. What an amazing coincidence that men have written our laws, drawn our borders, lead our nations, and created all of civilization without the input of women; and them being men completely irrelevant

I’m specifically talking about positions of power and influence. You’re using broad definitions. I feel like it’s 1860 you’re arguing that “actually black folks like picking cotton.” Power and influence steer our society. Nearly all positions of power and influence are held by men. It’s undeniable and you’re being deliberately obtuse.

So men don’t run the world? How about our militaries? Religious organizations? Companies? Elected leaders? Are men really just intrinsically better than women that they’re 5x-10x more likely to have a leadership position like the ones I mentioned? Men make up 53% of the workforce. 89% of construction is done by men. Workplace safety is a men’s issue by the nature of the workforce who is in unsafe conditions. Democrats (who I dislike for a number of reasons) are better on pay, workers rights, workplace safety, retirement benefits (which are overwhelmingly necessary for laborers w/ broken bodies), and employment security. Who said “socialist matriarchy”? We are fully capable of cherry picking all the good parts of any historical socio-economic system and discarding the bad parts. We do not have to live in a dichotomy. Feminism isn’t advocating for a matriarchy. It’s advocating for the fall of our patriarchy. It’s not seeking to reverse sexism, it wants to do away with it.

I’m a feminist but I’m also a man, so violence by men against men matters. I think many feminists disregard it because of misandry, as well as them feeling unable to curtail this violence. But their goal is the end of the patriarchy and ultimately, equality between all genders. The patriarchy hurts us all. Capitalism hurts us all. Ending those things will liberate all of us from the forces that drive men to be ultra competitive with one another (a big source if the violence) and so hard on thems…

You hand picking an elected leader that’s a woman proves my point. Most of them are men, so you have to reach to find a woman. Why are men taking more risks than women? Do you say the same about white men? They take more risks than black men, why is that? You’re not good at root cause analysis. Men are stronger than women though, that’s a fact. We can explore why. It’s mostly biological. Facts are what they are. It serves no one to ignore them. And men also commit nearly all murders. Why? It’s because of our relationship with violence. And black peoples are more likely to be arrested for a crime. Why? Because of slavery/jim crow that puts that community disproportionately in poverty, and systemic racism that over-polices them, and a Justice system that’s more harsh on them. Women on av…

Is that not true? Are murderers not mostly men? You’re here defending men as a group. When I point out that men do something abhorrent, we are suddenly not a group so that’s not relevant. Which is it? Are men an oppressed in-group that happens to commit nearly all murders? Or are men not a group, thr murdering is a coincidence, and society doesn’t oppress us because we’re not a targeted group? You’ve painted yourself into a logical corner.

The black community is not running our country, nor did they write the laws they are subjected to. And there is a lot of nuance to your claims, they don’t commit more crimes, they’re just more likely to be caught. So murdering people is a personality flaw the same way being bad at chess is? I want fewer people murdered. When I look at the data, the most common trait of all murderers is the fact that they’re men. It’s worth understanding why that’s true and what we can do about it. Do you know what does not keep men from getting murdered? When discussing murder, don’t say “welp, women are bad at chess, men murder, nothing we can do about it”.

This is a “whataboutism”. All I said, which is a fact, is that men have a monopoly on rape and murder. And their victims are also mostly men, so by stopping men from committing these crimes; we’re also sparing men the tragedy of being a victim. I’m speaking of common claims and popular posts from this subreddit. It’s devolved the last ~8 yrs into just misogyny and anti-feminist claims. How is exposing a group of men as toxic / ignorant / misogynistic bad for men? We, men who are presumably not those things, have a responsibility to hold them accountable and show them how/why they’re wrong. But we’re not doing that, people here are defending them, dismissing the whole piece as hate, and doing exactly nothing to take accountability. Men commit most murders. This stupid hateful initiative hurts transmen, men with disabilities, gay men, black men, indigenous men, immigrant men, and poor men. When you say this is a win for “men”, you’re saying black / trans / gay / Muslim / poor / etc men are not REAL men. I wholeheartedly disagree. The end of DEI is regressive and sets our society back. I think the social pressure put upon men to provide for a family has them often avoiding careers they want en lieu of careers that earn more. Most folks who have the intelligence/ drive to be a marine biologist have other options as well. Women mostly only are motivated to provide for themselves, and that’s only up until they want to have a family.

In what way? I graduated in 2006. Some of my best friends on the planet were in the same fraternity I was in. I saw one guy this weekend even at a party with mutual friends. My career has gone well and the skills I learned while doing work at the fraternity house and managing the interpersonal relationships of living together have been a well of knowledge I’ve always been able to pull from. Living in the fraternity house is not a requirement. It’s a fraternal brotherhood; academic standing and gender are the only requirements. There is no direct counterpart for women, although sororities do exist. I’m not sure what you’re so angry about. Most exclusive spaces are not hate groups (although some certainly are). I can’t speak for every group that exists, I was only speaking to the high level influence that capital has on literally everything. Profit centers are exploited. Always.

Right. And all the things you’ve mentioned are available to anyone and everyone. The question was about women exclusive events. Which do not sell well unless they are exclusive to women. And to your last point, we all experience societal pressure one way or another. Capitalism. Entertainment is sold. People buy it. “Women’s entertainment” doesn’t sell well. And exists mostly as an exclusive event where women can gather, exist outside of the patriarchy, and express themselves free from the judgement of men. These things are very rarely profitable. If the event/subject/sport is actually profitable, it becomes inclusive of all people. “Men’s” entertainment isn’t a thing, because there is no economic incentive to create men’s only spaces. The liberals and the conservatives see most men (especially poor men) as fodder for the industrial military complex. As long as we continue to die and make rich folks richer, they will keep our rights to the absolute minimum. If you go far enough left; ending poverty, ending mass incarceration, raising the social floor, and providing better access to all health services are priorities. Many people are confused about the relationships we all have with the patriarchy. “Society” dictates that women must adhere to a certain beauty standard. I’ve not once dimished men’s problems or men. MRA’s do not represent all men. I’m a man, you don’t represent me. You’ve caught me in nothing, except another inane argument about how you care oh so much about men but I go not, while you’re going nothing to discuss issues that face men or the forces that create said issues.

Men are targeted by violence of the police. The black community is targeted by the violence of police. So black men bring the most targeted group is no surprise. Our justice system aims to keep prisons full and the poor, poor. The simplest way to do that is to over-police the poor, and the most efficient way to do that is to over police poor densely populated neighborhoods (where most minorities live).

This is exactly what I mean. In nearly every case of police violence; a man is the one committing the atrocity on behalf of the state. A few rare cases of women doing the killing are more publicized and she universally is penalized; which is not the case for male officers (especially white male officers). So what’s the shocker here? 1% of transfolk regret their transition. If being a man is significantly more difficult than being a woman, wouldn’t we see a larger percentage of regret? Especially in the group AFAB that transition to be men?

Right. Men have struggles that are unique to men. I never said that isn’t the case. But 1% of transfolk regret their transition. So the “my gender has it harder than your gender!” Doesn’t hold a lot of water, when 99% of the people who swap are happy with the results. Men and women each have their unique struggles. This is the exact opposite of everything I’ve said. Are you agreeing with me? If we get the accolades of heroism, then we should also carry the blame for the violence. We get both, or we get neither. I think it’s bad for men that so many are inclined to commit murder. I’d like to understand why men commit violent crimes at higher rates than other genders. It’s absolutely a problem men face. You’re logically inconsistent.

How is “man attacks people and a man heroically stops him” a positive thing to highlight for men? I takes some mental gymnastics to focus on the food here and say “look what men can do!” And completely ignore the bad as exactly what men can also do. Celebrate the individual, sure. But if men are taking credit, don’t we also have to take the blame?
/r/MensRights18/04/23 05:49 PM

It’s difficult for me to celebrate men as a gender for heroically saving people from the violence of men. It’s dishonest to attribute this heroism to men, and not attribute the violence to men.

Because consent exists. You can have sex with yourself at will. You really believe another person should be forced to have sex with you? This is sex you’d enjoy? Neither of those things are healthy. We have open positions available and I’m actively hiring and recruiting. We do not need another white male perspective in our department. I’m trying to find qualified candidates that are women or minorities or both. This isn’t the “oppression” you’re pretending that it is.

“Fascist” isn’t an insult that you just hurl at people you don’t like. Prager runs one of the most prominent alt-right recruiting platforms on the internet. What I’m saying isn’t particularly outstanding or insightful. It’s well known that the far right recruits and indoctrinates mostly-young mostly-white men into the far right mindset. The alt-right is based on fear, misogyny, white supremacy, hyper-capitalism, and an ethno-state of “judeo-Christian values”. It’s precisely what fascism is, and …

It’s completely relevant. You’re using words that imply violence, like “war” and “rising”. You believe men are currently under a threat, and you said you think men will respond with violence. And you’ve explained that you think it’s inevitable and feel justified in your belief. It’s like you’re reading from an incel manual but denying it. You can’t see how lost or how wrong you are.

And MRA’s have murdered sorority girls, and justified rape. What’s your point? MRA’s are quick to point out that extremists don’t represent them, but somehow the most extreme possible radical feminists represent all of feminism. Meanwhile feminists only talk about these things, and MRA’s have actually murdered women. Your entire position is the typical disingenuous argument that’s just misogyny cloaked in “well some feminists want to hurt men, so they are all satan”

See. Even your own post isn’t done in good faith. The venom you spit toward feminists at every turn, like most men here, just feels like thinly veiled misogyny. You just equated a feminist talking head to a violent dictator responsible for millions of deaths. I’m a feminist, I support mens rights. A good portion of the posts on r/MenRights are men complaining about or demonizing women and feminists. By your logic, MRA’s should also be feminists, right? As a man that is a feminist, I’ve been called all sorts of juvenile names, ridiculed, and blamed for nearly every problem society faces by MRA’s here. Despite this, I do absolutely support men’s rights and want men and the world at large to care more about the suffering and challenges men uniquely face…

It is misandry. The patriarchy promotes the loss of men’s life, over the lives of women and children. It punishes men, it infantilizes women, and it has no place in an equitable society. It’s also a patriarchal “bravery” or “chivalry” notion.

The patriarchy is large and complex, it can be both of those things. I’m sorry that it doesn’t fit the narrow definition you want it to. What feminists write our laws? What feminists are judges who don’t sentence female rapists? What feminists cops are not arresting female rapists? What feminist prosecutors are not charging female rapists? Our justice system; top to bottom, was created by, is enforced by, and is followed thru by men. Men that are NOT feminists. Why does this system penalize men …

Me too man. I can’t help but feel the entire “women don’t think men can be raped” is just an internet thing used to get young men angry. Men are rape victims all the time and the legal system helps them as often as it helps women (which is to say, not much at all).

I’m a feminist, I read about this stuff all the time. r/MensRights is literally the only place where I’ve come across this notion. I’m a 39 yr old man. Not in my entire life, before this sub, has anyone ever said men cannot be raped. It is. Most of our laws are written by men, most judges are men. We are our own worst enemy. We can’t improve our lives if we deny the reasons why they suck sometimes. The justice system from cops, to judges, to jail operators, to legislators; are by and large men. We, MEN; create and enforce the law. And if men suffer more from it, who else should we look at for blame. I’m a man. This isn’t self loathing, I feel no shame or responsibility in this. I’m advocating for change and equality, and it …

Most judges are men, ask them. The justice system favors women because the patriarchy promotes accountability in men, but treats women like children who must be coddled and given 2nd chances. I am not sure if the justice system is too harsh on men, or too lenient on women, but it would be better if there were no disparity at all.

I agree. The prevailing sentiment that men having so little to do with their own home, that they require a separate space for “their” stuff is frustrating. I cook more than my wife, she cleans more than me, I take care of our yard 100%, and we have a pretty even split of household duties and responsibilities. I don’t need a secret/hidden place to be who I truly want to be in my own home. It’s my fucking house, it’s just the way I want it to be.

Hillary was and is terrible. That’s not the point. The notion that our society favors women but somehow-someway, men manage to fight and claw their way to the top of every business, political, and military organization is absurd. Our society very very clearly values men in leadership roles over women. I can’t even begin to understand how anyone could believe otherwise.

You do all of your academic research on YouTube? I don’t need to watch a dumbass YouTube video to learn something from someone like you. I’m aware that my experience doesn’t represent most men out there. Most people never move out of the town they grew up in. That’s my point, my experience is more broad that most humans I know. Toxic Masculinity is the root cause. The notions that men are violent and unemotional is promoted by our society to men from the earliest age. This is a strawman argument. I’ve never encountered any claims that men are not the victims of the issues mentioned. And aside from some insane misandrists, most humans recognize that victims exist across the spectrum. You’re ignoring the sex of perpetrators of the sexual assault and street assault. You're implying that the only opportunities that exist are homelessness or not-homeless. This goes back to my original statement. Society judges men more harshly because it respects men more. A man can "make his own way" whereas a woman can be taken in as if she's a lost child. A man shouldn't ask for help, but women are encouraged to do so. I feel like you just agreed with me. Of course men should not bear that burden. A burden that existed before women that could even vote or own property. That burden is the patriarchy, and unless you're a king or an oligarch, it is your enemy.

"Essentially, the case for closing women’s prisons is the same as the case for imprisoning fewer men. It is the case against the prison industrial complex and for community-based treatment where it works better than incarceration." I can't say I disagree with this statement. Why shouldn't we incarcerate fewer people?

I do mean society. Our laws are mostly genderless now. The social prevalence of patriarchal ideas and notions are exactly what I'm referring to. Our society is full of little minor nudges for men and women to be "real men" or "real women". As a society, we've improved tremendously with our language to empower women. But we still put far more emphasis on their aesthetic than we do men. And the language men hear has improved too, but I'm just 37 and my childhood and formative years were rife with …

Why don't you believe that? Men control most of the money, most corporations, and every military on earth. Recognizing the privileges of men does NOT mean that men do not suffer. I'm a man. I don't want more women leaders. Women are not inherently better than men. I want more qualified leaders. I happen to think that men and women both are capable of leading. But the patriarchy has only elected men thus far. We will never know how many capable women were passed over simply because of their gender. My point, which you missed on purpose, is that I believe men and women are equal. So the lack of women in leadership roles would indicate one of the following two scenarios I am wrong. Wo…

Johnny Depp is totally getting screwed by Amber Heard and a biased justice system and public opinion of abused men. But the POTUS has multiple sexual assault victims. The POTUS elected has a credible sexual assault suit against him. In the US, it is legal for employees to discuss salary, and that right is federally enforced. Hiding our salaries from one another only serves the business owners who want to underpay people. Women and minorities are often paid less for the same work for a number of complex reasons, but a man could get stuck in an underpaid situation easily if he is in a situation where he is easy to exploit. Unless you own a company and write checks, this type of hush-hush salary stuff hurts you.

It’s not an organization and I’m very much a feminist. But intersectional feminism obviously focuses on women’s rights. A lot of their goals and aspirations happen to align with equality for men. I’m seriously asking. Did you do well in school? I’m fascinated at the lengths you’re going to purposefully not understand what I’m saying in an attempt to prove me “wrong”. I chose the word toxic for obvious reasons. Switch it with sugary or unhealthy or whatever the hell else is simple enough for you to understand. Masculinity exists and is fine. Toxic Masculinity exists and is not fine. You denying this changes nothing.

Food is essential to life. Too much of the wrong food will kill you. Toxic food is bad. Food is fine. See how those things are different? Or do you think I hate ALL food?

“Masculinity is not the problem here, it is the cure.” Interesting finish for a guy complaining about straw men. No one has said masculinity is the problem.

Omfg. Do any of you know how adjectives work? “Toxic masculinity” is different than “masculinity” because the word toxic precedes it as a descriptor of a specific subset of perceived (by the actor) masculine traits that are harmful to the person acting them out and possibly those around them.

Uh.. “...It was actually about how society treats men more than how we now use it to blame men.” I know. That’s what I’m saying. Society treats men, and has expectations of them, that can be harmful to both men and women. Masculinity is fine. So many of you very ignorantly (I honestly can’t tell if it’s willful or not, perhaps you’re just dense) frame toxic masculinity as “aLl mAsCuLiNiTy bAd”. It’s as if you don’t know what an adjective is.

Well you’re just arguing semantics at this point and diluting the message. Behavior that is toxic because of an exaggerated view of what it means to be masculine (or feminine) exists and there is nothing sexist or bad about associating these things with their root motivations. You’re doing nothing to help anyone or anything (except fragile male egos) with your droning on.
/r/MensRights03/06/19 08:37 PM

You’re stating your (ill educated) opinion as fact, toxic masculinity exists and it is not sexist. Only an insecure person who believes their toxic traits are valuable would be offended by this term. Too Masculinity and toxic femininity are social constructs that are reinforced or encouraged by the ignorant. We have to recognize and identify this behavior if we wish it to end. You’re in denial so there is no progress to be made on your part until you accept it.

Masculinity and Femininity are not exclusively a gender thing either. Toxic masculinity can’t absolutely be displayed by women and should also be shut down.

Sorry tough guy, I can see you’re triggered. It’s ok, no one here is going to hurt you. But have you asked WHY men sacrifice their bodies/health? It’s not because women ask them to. It’s because we are socially expected to. Men do have struggles. Men have their own set of challenges that women do not. But many men here fault to understand WHY these challenges exist. Instead of getting all pissed and defensive as you have just done. Be constructive. Talk about the challenges men face, why they fa…

Most of these guys have no interest in being educated about men’s rights, they just want to complain about the patriarchy while claiming it doesn’t exist. They want to maintain their privilege but end all of the downsides that come with it. Their ego is too fragile for the idea that they could improve their lives and the lives of other men if they would only let go of their pride and chauvinism.

I’m a feminist and I completely agree with this. If the father asks for an abortion and the mother refuses, she should be on the hook for support.

You’re wrong. I’m a feminist and I’m interested in equality. Men’s Rights are an important part of equality that are often overlooked. I’m not trolling. You opened your long argument with a definition of masculinity that is not within the context of how it is often discussed/perceived. You’re either very dense or pushing a misogynist agenda. I think it’s a combination of the former and an unconscious attempt at the latter. I am also surprised i have not been banned. All of bro-flakes of this sub…

Many men believe that showing emotion is not masculine. This leads them to suppress emotions to the point where they turn to alcoholism, domestic violence, drugs, or even suicide. They believe that being anything less than their imagine of “a man” is the worst thing they can be. They sacrifice their happiness or lives to maintain this image. There are traits that movies, music, and TV often promote that make men masculine. Young men see/hear these things and society pressures them to fill that r…

Women are not conditioned to be emotionless. Men are, in order to be more “masculine”. Women are not asked to put themselves in harms way to protect men. Men are, because it is “chivalrous”. There is absolutely toxic femininity.

The lack of a positive male role model (aka positive masculinity) can lead young men to subscribe to toxic behaviors that they believe make them more masculine, typically from media.

Do all of you really have this poor of an understanding of “toxic masculinity”? Adjectives are words that describe nouns. Masculinity is the primary word here. There is a type of masculinity that encourages men to display toxic behavior as it relates to their masculinity. It’s not a difficult concept to grasp and the moron who tweeted this is being willfully ignorant.

I’m a man. Feminism, in the academic sense (not always in practice, every movement has extremists, I can’t answer for them) is about equality for women AND men. The patriarchy is a real thing that puts both men and women at a disadvantage in various situations. Feminism is about unveiling and destroying that patriarchy, and with it the undue pressure it places on both men and women to follow social gender roles or be deemed a lesser member of their sex. Through the years, most of the feminists I…

She will be lucky to live to 55 yrs old at her weight. It’s akin to calling a heroin addict ‘brave’ for posing for a magazine with track lines on her arms. Yes. Again, I understand. Toxic masculinity is very real, young men learn that it’s what it is to “be a man”, and it’s most definitely a problem. As others stated, she’s also wrong. 69% of children live with both parents and I would guess that many of the 31% have a positive male role model. This moronic tweet is equating all masculinity to “toxic masculinity”. Toxic Masculinity is not saying that all things that are masculine are toxic. It’s saying that parts of what society considers masculine is actually toxic behavior. Women often promote and reward this toxic behavior as much as other men do, it’s a SOCIAL issue, not a man issue. A man can be masculine but not participate in toxic behavior.

Having easy access to guns makes all gun violence more common. There are mountains of data to support this claim. There are sound arguments on both sides of the gun control debate, but gun violence is directly related to gun access.
