I took a chance on a man I wasn't attracted to once. He was decently attractive but just was not even remotely my type. Eventually the love hormones kicked in, and I did love him, but I absolutely did not want to have sex with him. He was soooo happy about that. Yep. Didn't hassle me every day for a year for sex or threaten to go to prostitutes. Nope.

A bit late but can't believe nobody's mentioned Terminator 2! (Or 1, but it's not as good). Linda Hamilton is my OG strong woman lead.

I totally agree. I'm a fencesitter but finding it difficult to ignore how terrible the world is and how that could impact my hypothetical child's future, and there's a part of me that knows it would be better to abstain. Sadly I find that holding such views can be pretty isolating. Since I'm in my 30s, haven't got that much longer to decide. People are asking questions, friends around me (with children) are asking about my views on children and I can hardly talk about how unethical it is in fron…

Definitely not just you, this is horrendously common and why we need to look for ambitious men who celebrate our accomplishments and degrees. He didn't want you educated since he wasn't, and your reading either reminded him that you'll realise you're good for him one day, or it could have served as a reminder about his own laziness. Stay far away from men who are threatened by the success of women. Also stay away from those who passively "accept" your success, but don't celebrate it. They hate i…

And that isn't even enough! That kind of thinking for me was a trap that led to my most recent long term relationship. He drew me in because he showed all the traits above, his love was stable, and it felt good. Especially compared to all the shitty game playing dudes I'd been dating before that. But alas, he was still a LVM porn addict and Jordan Peterson apologist. KEEP THE BAR SKY HIGH.

Manage expectations = "I will want to have sex often. I won't care if you're not feeling it, if you have a lower libido than I do, or if you're simply permanently turned off of me since I treat you like a sex doll. Are you ok with being my bangmaid? Oh and you can't resent me further down the line since we've had this conversation."

How do you get past wanting to stick it in a LVM's face that you've leveled up and have moved on from past embarrassing pickmeisha behaviour? This isn't someone I'm in contact with, he's blocked everywhere. However we have a lot of mutual interests and I'll start running into him again when corona ends. I cringe SO MUCH thinking about how I acted around him, and fantasies of "showing him who won" (after he walked all over me) are occupying my mind even though I know he doesn't deserve a single t…

Bingo. I don't think any of my close friends in the scene from that time had normal, safe childhoods. I certainly didn't. Unfortunately it is indeed easy to get sucked into that dynamic in adulthood from the paradoxical false sense of control and security, and now hoards of thirsty porn consuming abusers are out there taking full advantage.

Slight tangent but here we go. I used to be into BDSM before I discovered FDS. Like properly in the community, going to BDSM events, and so on. I'd discuss sexual preferences/kinks on Tinder (I know, I know...), and the vast majority of men who said they were 'Doms' hadn't even heard of aftercare. They'd just watched endless porn of women being slapped and choked and gone "hey I can do that too!". I never met a single person from online dating who claimed to be into BDSM but was also actually in…

It's like you said, even if you do know how to spot a narc sometimes it's impossible to know as they can wait quite a while to take their masks off. If they didn't, people wouldn't fall into their trap. Also wanted to second recommending going to a specialist therapist. And try to identify whether you have developed signs of codependency, that's what snuck up on me in the end.

We're rooting for you, #kickhimout2021! Please take some time for yourself before you date again afterwards. A long time. You've been through trauma, and narcissistic abuse is an insidious poison that infiltrates in sometimes unexpected ways you don't even realise until many years later. By the way, autoimmune disease is a common result of trauma. I'd highly recommend reading The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, and there are some really good subreddits out there for what you've been…

Right? It really stood out to me that he works 50 hour weeks and is filmed there in the background completely ignoring her to play games.

I'm willing to bet this dude has gone on to complain that this is why he can't discuss his feelings with women... but refuses to go to therapy.

The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk opened my eyes to how much my childhood trauma and cPTSD was still affecting me. Could not recommend this book enough. I'd been in and out of therapy all my life, and nothing had really helped. Until I tried EMDR. I was skeptical at first, but it really changed my life. Would highly recommend.

Years back, I had a long standing casual sex arrangement with a LVM. He wouldn't do the typical "you up?" at 2 am, but he would always ask me to come over on the same evening. We went on dates too, but those were also usually last minute. He never listened to my many requests to plan in advance. After 1.5 years, I finally got fed up and told him "I won't come over as long as it's a last minute request. You can ask me in advance or don't bother." Guess what? He never asked to see me again! Even a…
