Well, and don't ask for boyfriend shit. It's apparently baffling to many, based on the number of friendzone posts and comments I've seen this Purge.

I agree. If the dynamic in a previous friendship changes, the best thing for you and the friendship is to bring it up right away and take the hit and get over it before you spend three years pining. That friendship might actually recover and if not, that's totally fine.

I think this happens, though, because they don't act on the feelings, once they recognize them. My husband has always told me "You know who doesn't get friendzoned? Guys who try to kiss girls." If you kiss them or make your move and allow the rejection, you avoid putting them on a pedestal, while you nurse this fantasy that they'll feel the same way.

"Why do women insist on seeing people as people, when I'm trying to make angry generalizations based on nothing?!?!?"

You mention a lot of nuance that I find valid, but those aren't often the scenarios cited in friendzone discussions. They are, specifically, claims that the reason for the friendship was a romantic in. Regardless, I still think it can be boiled down to, try to kiss them/ask them out, once the feelings change, and understand that rejection is going to change the friendship, on both sides and respect them for their honesty. Above all, young guys need to put themselves into young girls shoes. Yes, …

My husband and I actually both struggle with not goofing off during sex. It's a different problem, since we're both involved, but I think the first step is just to stop being silly. Don't try to be sexy, yet. Just try not to be goofy.

This post was actually inspired by a woman complaining about men being friends with them just for sex, so actually you're injecting yourself into the conversation. That's fine, as it's a public post, but I'm not sure why you care enough to complain.

That's definitely better than pining or acting jealous of your girlfriends. My male friends are either through work and very polished, which wouldn't be my type, even if I were single or they're half of a couple that's friends with both my husband and me.

They're bots, swiping everything, or they're messing with her. This woman isn't getting dates.

Those are the only male/female friendships that work.

Don't talk to women. Problem solved. I also find it ironic that a man would complain about post length. TRP men go on for pages and pages. You can always spot them from the wall of text.

It's Reddit. No one's stopping you from skimming or skipping. The post was tailored to both genders and women appreciate context. They also seem to be the most confused about the friendzone.

Hey, if that helps you avoid this problem, go for it.

So men are much more sexually motivated by the visual alone, while women require more than that to get turned on.The fact that women need more stimulation to be sexual aroused enough to willingly have sex proves that they have a lower sex drive. I appreciate the shift toward this kind of study, but I disagree with your conclusion that the biological way women become turned on is proof of a low sex drive. A man with an inarguably low sex drive is still going to be turned on more easily, just becau…

There was a lot more emphasis on women's purity than men's, yes. There weren't balls for boys to promise their virginity to their mother's keeping, until they found a good girl, but there were balls for girls to promise theirs to their fathers, until they found a godly man. It was all very oppressive and strange, for both genders, but women definitely got the brunt of it. This is still sort of the attitude today, from many people. Fortunately PPD is not an accurate representation of society, but…

Well, I know that in the 90s, there was a widely popular overcorrection for the freedoms of the 80s and their consequences (AIDS and drug addiction), that manifested in a lot of the purity movements that were popular for the decade. Shows like 7th Heaven preached virginity until marriage, as did school assemblies, and almost all "sex education," even in non-religious areas. We saw it die down later, with another overcorrection from feminism, in media like Sex and the City and Bridget Jones Diary…

How does the age of the study reduce the validity? If it's self-reported, then it greatly reduces the validity based on societal expectations of its reporters. You're talking about the comfort of reporting sexual habits and preferences 27 years ago versus now, not to mention how differently those things can develop in a more openly sexual society. That's like someone claiming their starving, but when you give them some perfectly edible food they don't eat it, and they says this. No. It really is…

I'm not saying it's sexist. I'm not offended by the idea, at all. I'm just doubting the way we come to the conclusion. If you were citing studies on several different species of mammals or some kind of uncivilized tribe, I'd be more inclined to consider the information as unbiased, but the fact is still that we shame women for desiring sex in a way we don't shame men.

That self-reported study is from 1993. It's literally over 25 years old. There are also studies done on married couples were men reported desiring more sex than they were actually getting, and both men and women agreed that the man wanted more sex. Is that because of drive or because of a lack of attraction/feeling attractive, energy, time, foreplay? I'm not arguing that either men or women have a higher sex drive. I'm just not sure that we can accurately compile information to get a solid answe…

Do they? How would we know, other than through self-reporting? I'm just not sure how much I trust this kind of information. You're relying on people's comfort in owning up to these things. Also, is porn really the best indicator of sex drive and expression? Women read far more romance novels than men, most of which have at least a few steamy scenes. They just entwine their sexual fantasies with romantic fantasies, like falling in love with a strong, ambitious, successful man, and getting married…

Sex is inherently riskier for women, so if they're forgoing it, it could very much be out of responsibility. What about masturbation? If I masturbate eight times in a week and a man has sex three and doesn't masturbate at all, I clearly have the higher sex drive.

I understand the research, but I'm not sure if I agree with it, when accounting for a woman's tendency to admit her urges, versus a man's. My husband once told me that I was the only woman he'd ever met who admitted to ever watching porn. I'm certain I'm not the only one who did, but I was the only one comfortable enough to admit to it. I think men will tend to exaggerate their sexual prowess and women will tend to downplay theirs.

My sex drive is definitely higher than my husband's, though not problematically so. While he was hooking up with an unknown number of women, though, I was essentially celibate by choice for seven years. He's only my second partner. I think the problem with this discussion is that everyone gets caught up one how the sex drive manifests. Men have fewer issues with hooking up than women do, so they have more sex and are labeled as more sexual. I think people are just generally individuals and I'm n…
