Is it possible to cancel those trips?

You’re assuming all responsibility here. That’s unjustifiable. Your stbx is an adult and owed you better communicatiom. If the foundation of your relationship wasn”t real to her, it was primarily her responsibility to tell you and not yours to see through her pretense. By doing so she deprived you a chance for something more real.

Divorce her immediately. What the hell could possibly get you to marry this woman in the first place?

I’m glad to hear you have woken up before taking that irreversible step.

As to your second point, that’s a good one, too. It’s a really good idea to gain a good understanding of your partner early on so as to avoid going too far with someone unsuitable.

I don’t have anything specific at hand now. A simple internet search will unearth a ton of material. It’s prolly a long road to unlearn bad thought patterns and habits.

Interesting idea. But in my mind that only reinforces the idea that serious relationships sinply aren’t worth it unless you absolutely want children. If you can’t be with a woman without dealing with her as if you’re taming some kind of a wild animal, then it really isn’t worth it.

People pleasers are at risk of losing themselves in relationships regardless of sex. Some people have more difficulty setting boundaries than others. Those who struggle at it tend to attract those who walk over others. To what extent relationships in general have boundary issues I don’t know.

This is why you take your time deciding if you want to marry someone.

If you don’t have kids, divorce her without a second thought. She’s violent and untrustworthy. You will have dodged a bullet. If you already have kids, you need to plan your exit carefully.

This. Just spend the extra time with the kids. It will pay for sure. The kids will remember that their mom would rather travel than spend time with them.

I’m in my first and last marriage. It’s such an expensive proposition that I wouldn’t get into another one should this marriage come to an end prior to my death.

Is your ex-wife your son’s mother? Or a stepmother to him? As someone else already mentioned, helping out your son to give him more time to help out your ex-wife sounds reasonable. That way, you won’t have to deal with your ex-wife but you can make your son’s life easier.

Marriage is transactional. It’s essentially a business deal to the goal of producing children, a living legacy. It’s nice if both spouses love each other for who they are. But that’s not what marriage is for.

As a husband, father and breadwinner, you don’t often have the energy left to play such games. But you need to if you want your marriage to last and your children to be able to grow up in a stable and happy home.

Then she’s entitled to asking her adult sons to pay rent for using her half of the house. In turn, you have the right to a compensation for her use of your half of the house. How will the value of the house be determined?
/r/Divorce_Men01/10/24 08:05 PM

Do you own 100% of the house? 50%?
/r/Divorce_Men01/10/24 05:11 PM

It sounds like she’s abusing them, too. After the house is sold, they’ll get rid of her, too. If they can take it at least for the time being, their living in the house may prevent your ex-wife doing anything to the house out of spite. After the house is sold, they will be able to cut her out of their lives, too.

That attitude is typical of how women relate to their men. Gratitude among them is not very common.
/r/Divorce_Men20/09/24 09:23 AM
3

Women maximise the quality and fitness of their mates. They judge their own mate value by the way men behave towards them. If they sense their man is beneath them, they’ll respect him less. If their man agrees to marry them, showers them with benefits and kindness, they may subconsciously draw certain conclusions about their own mate value vs. their man’s. Marriage has to work much better than average to be compatible with peace of mind for a man. In this day and age it’s probably better to stay…

Take courses. Invest in learning marketable skills. That way you can perfectly legally protect yourself against the loss you incur by spending less than your wife. I know you were asking for suggestions for fun ways to spend money but it appears that you are not much of a spender. Don’t start squandering money out of spite.

Contact a lawyer now and prepare for the worst. Careful preparation is key. Do you have underage children?
/r/Divorce_Men02/09/24 08:57 PM

I didn’t and you failed to even grasp the basics. The percentage of misattributed paternity is around 1-2% in the general population in Western countries. But if there is doubt, you will find an order of magnitude higher percentage. Men are not stupid and generally have an idea when to doubt their paternity.
/r/Divorce_Men25/08/24 07:05 PM
2

Incorrect. In Western countries, tests show that when there’s doubt, in about 30% of cases the presumed father is not the father. The percentage is much smaller in the general population.

The institution of marriage exists for the protection of children. There’s no reason to marry for anyone who intends not to have children.
/r/Divorce_Men25/08/24 06:36 AM

Might. Family can be the best or the worst thing in life or anything in between. If your gut is telling you not to reproduce, don’t.

The last sentence in your comment expresses on detrimental thing parenthood does to relationships: it can prolong them in a harmful way.

You’re doing the right thing. Don’t have a child only to please your wife. And let her go so that she can have one with someone else. Having a child is an irreversible decision. Why marry or even have an LTR in the first place if having children is a hard no? What’s happening to you is always a risk. The ultimate purpose of sex and romantic love is procreation. I’m unable to completely dissociate them in my mind.

Having unprotected marriage is irresponsible as it may lead to contracting a bad case of marriage contractitis and divorce courtitis.

The reality is divorce has such a high likelihood today that choosing a spouse based on what they will be like in divorce and as coparents is key. I’ve never seen anyone explain it like that before.

You have laid out exactly the reasons why maintaining a healthy relationship with women is such a Sisyphean task. It’s like living with some dangerous animal as a pet. If you’re not careful, she’ll destroy you (metaphorically speaking), leaving you a shadow of your former self. The truth is men enter a marriage hoping their wife will never change while women enter marriage hoping to mold their husband to their liking. They will feel contempt for you if they succeed and resent you if they don’t. …

Participating in the game of reproduction is not to your personal benefit. You’re doing it because your primitive instincts and social programming tell you to do so. My child means the world to me but I also know that I wouldn’t miss her if she’d never existed just as I don’t miss any of the kids I never had. If you’re on the fence about starting a family and raising kids, maybe you shouldn’t. If you really want them, go ahead! There’s a lot of good about having a family but it also exposes you …

Marriage has been expensive in my experience, too. I’m not divorced but have had to buy a much more expensive home and pay for two cars neither of which I would probably not have had to buy had I not got marrird. My wife earns slightly more than I but has spent a lot on needless stuff. Had I not got married, I might have been able to retire already and have a much more stress free life in other ways, too. My advice to young men is to only marry if you absolutely want a family and children. Be aw…

You walked away and turned down your EW’s request to hang out. You’re doing nothing wrong. Remembering and missing the good parts of your past relationship is perfectly natural. Feelings come and go and you have to accept them in this case. What you do is controlled by you.

When you were single you were a young man. You wanted a woman in your life because that’s part of the cycle of life when you’re young. Being single will most likely be different now.

I would recommend against driving any motor vehicle in a state of powerful anger. Go for a walk instead. Physical activity is good both mentally and physically.

Your step granddaughter will grow up and become more independent and will remember you. You’ll be there for her later if needed.
/r/Divorce_Men18/06/24 06:34 PM

Using people, particularly children, as pawns in power games is despicable. Your and your step granddaughter’s relationship is separate from your relationship with all the others because you’re all different people. It’s very unfair to you and her that you’re not allowed contact by her parents despite you having played an important role in life for many years.
/r/Divorce_Men18/06/24 04:44 PM
7

In that case it’s also a good idea not to give a woman hostages by having children with her. You can be however gung ho about setting boundaries and being all about my way or the highway so long as your kids are not used as pawns against you by a crazy woman and an unfair system.

True. There are limits to what a man can expect from an intimate relationship with a woman in terms of emotional intimacy. Yet women often demand that their men be emotionally intimate them, practically meaning that their men present some censored version of themselves to them. That’s not real intimacy. It’s work you do to pay for whatever the woman brings to the table. If you can’t live with that, you can avoid LTRs and go for hookups, ONS, hire pros or DIY to take care of your sexual needs.
